Why isn't being pregnant an important enough situation to quit smoking

I'm giving my self a very hard time about this and wanted to know from Other pregnant women who are smokers what they think.. this is a subject that will no doubt invite your typical 'just stop it', 'you're being selfish' etc comments but really wanting answers from women who experience this, have a go if you want but in the best words possible, it won't make a difference to how I feel. How is it that knowing full well I am pregnant with a much wanted baby isn't enough for me to stop smoking? I have cut down from 10 a day to around 5 a day, I vape during the day but on weekends I smoke more. I know the dangers of smoking to my health and more so the effect it can have on the baby. I'm just perplexed as to what the hell is wrong with me that I'm continuing to smoke. I've read the Allen Carr book, which helped for a bit but doesn't take away the need for a smoke. I vape during the day but when I get home it's as if a treat is waiting for me. I've tried to speak to the smoke free team and have been on the waiting list for 5 weeks and yet to be seen, spoke to the midwife and she said it requires will power! I was a strong minded person prior to pregnancy and was regular active in the gym and could quit if I wanted to but it's as I'd because I can't see the negative effects of the smoking on the baby it seems like it's not real! Ignorant of me I know but what did you do to help you quit smoking.

@loveyourself87 I was smoking up until almost 3 weeks ago. My goal was to quit by the end of the 1st trimester. I had my last one the day before my scan. Sometimes if I want to smoke I know I have to avoid other people smoking so I don't feel tempted but now that I've done it for this long I really don't feel tempted anymore. I wish my boyfriend would stop also.
DON'T BUY ANYMORE!

Depends on the individual and perhaps where you are from. Some countries it’s more acceptable to smoke during. Where I’m from it’s a big NO NO. Even non pregnant people aren’t smoking. I went to school abroad and was a pack a day smoker for 2 years! Then reduce it to 10 a day for 2 more years and then down to 3-5 a day. Got pregnant and quit cold turkey. The second I suspected I was pregnant. Never smoked again 8 years later. Never thought I would be able to quit. Thank goodness the baby helped me quit. And it was purely bc I knew it was bad to smoke during pregnancy. Not bc of morning sickensss bc I didn’t have that. Could eat etc normally

@loveyourself87 I didn't attack you I said you were being aggressive, because you are when you don't like what someone has to say. Lots of people have pointed it out. And no I am not the same person with a different name, jesus, I have better things to do.

Goodluck, honestly, for the sake of your baby I hope you stop smoking.

I really hope you can stop.

This is a bit of a wacky idea, but if you do find yourself tempted could you cut the cigarette in half with scissors? That way you only get half the hit and half the damage.

Here's an even wackier idea...

Just don't smoke any fags...

It's really not complicated. It's fucking hard, but there it is.
