Did you know you were pregnant before you did a test?

I've conceived twice and both times I knew from day one. It's really weird, but during the first week when I'm pregnant I get dreams telling me in no uncertain terms that I'm pregnant. Anyone else know by instinct that they were PG?

i didn't know. Found it very hard to get PG and was taking clomid. DId the test and didnt see the line because it was so faint. Went downstairs cried because i thought the clomid hadn't worked and drank a bottle of wine (oops). Only later when i properly looked at the test did i notice the faint line.

1st pregnancy - didn't know i was pregnant until i felt baby kicking - at 22 weeks!

2nd pregnancy currently 31 weeks, had a feeling i was pregnant a couple of days before period was due as it hurt when i sneezed, it hurt during my first pregnancy as well, like a pulling sensation.

youpeskykids · 21/08/2007 19:51

2nd pregnancy I guessed I was pregnant 2 days before I was due on. Had such painful boobs - hurt even to touch, plus I was REALLY REALLY hungry for about 3 days before and ate loads, and had a real craving to go and buy crisps, chocolate, fizzy drinks and stuff like Lunchables....

rubydarling · 21/08/2007 22:23

Yes, I burst into tears at a vaguely sad story on the Today Programme. About the Cutty Sark burning down, I think. My DH said he didn't know why I bothered peeing on a stick, just watching my reaction to the news was enough to say pg or not pg.

lissie · 21/08/2007 22:24

i have known every time i was pg. about a week before af was due. and ive only been wrong once!

berolina · 21/08/2007 22:35

With ds I guessed about 5 days before I missed my period.

With this pg I knew as soon as I was semi-late (my cycle varies by 4 or 5 days).

suzycreamcheese · 21/08/2007 22:39

i was sick and knew then ...am never ever, if i can help it sick...

Twinklemegan · 21/08/2007 22:41

I had no idea. Literally no idea. We'd been trying for 4 years. My period was 3 weeks late, I burst into tears in the middle of the office in front of my boss and I truly had no idea. Until a couple of weeks later it suddenly dawned on me and I did a test - voila!

Ah Claraq, my life with my awesome footballer husband is extraordinary. It's the cat's miaow. The parties, the highlife, big hair and boob jobs, streaky blondes and dazzling teeth (hence celebrity dark glasses), champagne clink-clink, oh-la-la-Biarritz-here-we-come-again, va-va-voom and oobly-ow. I love it. Oh and Thierry's rather nice, too.

yes I knew straight away

fatslag · 23/08/2007 09:27

With DS1 had very funny sensations in my belly right after conception, it felt like someone had let off a champagne bottle in there, all bubbly. This sounds freaky but it's the only way I can describe it. Then serious cramps 1 week before period was due. I cried and cried because we were TTC and I thought that meant that I was about to come on...

With DS2 much more subtle... low grade ache in belly then just a "funny feeling" when AF was due. I tested on the day AF should have arrived and bingo. DS2 of course arrived just when I had given up all hope of ever conceiving again!

Weegle · 23/08/2007 11:00

I knew straight away - tests were coming up negative (too early) but I just knew. In fact after my third negative pregnancy test I lost it and told DH I had better get to the doctors as if I wasn't pregnant something was wrong! Got a postive test the next day! And we weren't really trying so it wasn't like I was looking out for it either.

becklespeckle · 23/08/2007 11:10

No idea with first pg (which I m/c)
No idea with 2nd pg
No idea with 3rd pg until MS arrived at 9 weeks, even then pg didn't cross my mind until I had been feeling rough for a week! Looking back though I had had loads of dreams of being pg.
No idea with 4th or 5th pg either (both m/c)
This pg I knew a few days after ov! Its the first time I have ever felt ov and I just had a good feeling, then I felt niggles v low down one side about 5 days after ov and thought it might be implantation. Was not surprised when test came up positive 3 days before AF due! An early scan at 6 weeks showed baby very low down, exactly where I had felt the twinges!

Ceebee74 · 23/08/2007 13:15

Haven't read all this thread yet as I am at work but I instinctively knew I was pg before doing the test - I had been bleeding for a couple of weeks which I had assumed was my AF therefore no conception that month so wasn't thinking about it but I suddenly realised my boobs had become sore and I was getting really tired during the day so I had an inkling (did the test in secret as I knew DH would think I was stupid to think I was pg when I had had my AF that month) and whadda you know....the test was positive!

claraq · 23/08/2007 13:49

MrsTH -

thebecster · 23/08/2007 13:51

I had the weirdest premonition - I was 5 weeks pg, had no idea as my cycle is really irregular and had always been told that it was v unlikely I would ever conceive naturally (burst appendix aged 8, and PCOS diagnosed 5 years ago). Then at 5 weeks pg, I had a dream that I was with my DH and this little boy came running up to me and jumped in my lap and put his arms around me and in my dream I thought 'Wow, he's chosen me to be his Mummy'. I was really sad when I woke up, thinking, well, that's never going to happen. Then I started feeling sick and... hurrah, I really was pg after all! The oddest thing about it is that my DS is now 14 mths and looks EXACTLY like the little boy in my dream. But exactly though. Oooh, spooky

LOVABUMP · 23/08/2007 14:22

I knew straight away with both, don't ask me how just did, can even tell you date of conception! May have something to do with having very regular cycle and knowing my dates, was completely bang on with my ds date of birth, now 29 weeks pg and my family taking bets on date this one will be born, wonder if I will win? Does mind over matter come in to it?!

missbumpy · 23/08/2007 14:42

I had an inkling. I was ravenously hungry and craving things that I didn't usually eat like crisps. I also kept on getting really tired and dizzy in the afternoon. Definitely had sore boobs early on too. I wasn't surprised when the test came back positive .

PippiLangstrump · 23/08/2007 14:46

yep every time! my body changes so much i'd have to be dead not to notice.

I am envious of people like a work collegue who did not realise untill 7 months !

dirtmonkey · 23/08/2007 15:00

DD wasn't planned at all. Suddenly lost my capacity for wine & two small glasses gave me an all day hangover. It was one of those "oh my god" moments as the heat & panic rose from my boots to the top of my head.

I'd been taking antibiotics & didn't realise pill wouldn't work for two weeks after I finished taking them .

Best thing in the world that could have happened to me .

Bimblin · 23/08/2007 15:03

I didn't know - I'd actually made an appointment with my gp to ask him if he thought my periods had stopped from stress when I thought I better do a test in case he asked. I'd been googling all sorts about reasons for periods stopping. Durr...

jacobandlysette · 23/08/2007 15:20

kind of knew with 1st, just had a feeling although i thought i'd had a small period which was implantation bleeding.

2nd we have just found out and did 6 tests as i just knew and started testing 2 days before period due. just got very faint lines that then got stronger!

also i too had the metallic taste in my mouth this time and the kind of bubbly feeling in my tummy!

PurlyQueen · 23/08/2007 17:46

I suspected that I might be because I was over two weeks late, but after trying for four years and then getting ready for IVF, I didn't believe that I could get pregnant on my own

canadianmum · 23/08/2007 18:25

I knew about a week after conception. Felt very strange fluttering sensation in my abdomen plus period pains way too early for me. Just felt different, no surprise for the BFP a week later!

GodzillasBumcheek · 23/08/2007 18:40

Yes, kind of. After 3 years trying, went on metformin for 3 months, 3 months passed, stopped taking it, 2 weeks later after giving up and thinking it hadn't worked, had a very light spotting, thought...i wonder, and took the test. Test was negative, but didn't believe it, took another a week later and then i was sure!
