5 weeks Pregnant

Hi all,

I am only 5 weeks pregnant (due 24th of July) with baby number 2! All went well last pregnancy (appart from horrific morning sickness from 6 - 23 weeks)

I have seen a few old threads with Ladies asking this question but would be nice to have some reassurance from other Mums to be on how terrifying the wait to 12 weeks is!

I'm so scared something goes wrong every time I go to the loo I'm checking for blood and any pains in my abdomen i feel I'm convinced something bad is happening 😭 x

It is really stressful, I agree! Pregnancy for me is an extremely anxious time anyway and to add this bloody virus into the mix is just making my anxiety go through the roof!!
Me and DH had a discussion about my scan in just over 2 weeks time which I'd have to take the national rail into London and then tube and whether it'd be safe for me to go! Crazy!!

WeeScottishWife · 17/03/2020 18:03

Luckily I can work from home fairly easily, and my whole office is pretty much shifting to that anyway. More annoying for me is that it meant I had to tell them I was pregnant, which I'd been hoping to hold off doing until our pay reviews later this month. Never mind.

squirrelnutkins1 · 17/03/2020 18:59

I've been told to work from home for the foreseeable. I feel bad because I can't completely do the job from home so my colleagues will be picking up my slack ☹️ but as I work in a risky nhs area I know it's for the best. Hope everyone is managing to keep sane.

pottypotamus · 17/03/2020 20:40

I was sent home today for a minimum of 12 weeks. Luckily I'm able to work from home, just hoping I don't run out of work to do!

Katie602 · 17/03/2020 22:14

Hi everyone, I’m totally new to this. I’m 6 week pregnant due 8th Nov!
I’m a mixture of excitement and first time nerves. Is it normal to go from day to day with totally different symptoms, yesterday I had the worst aching boobs, today they are totally fine, a few period like pains occasionally then the next day nothing!

Mummy2be20 · 18/03/2020 08:39

Is any one working still? I can't work from home and I am trying to see as little people as possible. It's such a stress!
I had crazy symptoms from 5-6 weeks, I had sore boobs sometimes worse days than others, nausea, major tiredness and so many good aversions!! It's does get better!!!

squirrelnutkins1 · 18/03/2020 09:04

I will be when I get my equipment but IT are overrun with WFH requests at the mo so it's taking a while. I'm looking forward to it to keep my mind occupied! I'm going a bit crazy at home!

pottypotamus · 18/03/2020 22:46

Congrats @Katie602
Early pregnancy is a real rollercoaster! Symptoms can be really strong, period pains, nausea, boob pain, tiredness etc and then all of a sudden they're gone and you're tearing your hair out because you're worried symptoms disappearing is a bad sign!
Lots of ups and downs for me.

I've been working from home and told I will be for the next 12 weeks minimum. But as schools are out from Monday, my work will be impacted as my kids are still young and require constant supervision and engagement.

JackGordonsMummy · 19/03/2020 22:05

Yet again I didn't get an email to say anyone had wrote on here so just catching up!

I'm 22 weeks today. DP has been working from home and will be for the next 12 weeks (unless the guidelines change) and we are not sending DS to the childminder so just us 3 at home. Trying to keep it as safe as we can. Still going out walks (in the rain) or runs in the car to break up the day for my 2 year old who is not used to being home all day! It's such a scary time to be bringing a new baby into the world. Hopefully it has calmed down a lot by July.

Anyone else getting Braxton Hicks often? I can literally feel the shape on my baby when I get them. Her kicks are much stronger each day it's amazing 💗

Congratulations @Katie602 you have the same due date as my first born although that was in 2017! So exciting! Yes the first few weeks are so unsettling with all the different symptoms coming and going don't worry too much and if you can go for an early scan to settle your mindSmile

Hope you are all well xx

Thanks for the reassurance everyone. I had a early scan the other day because I just couldn't bare waiting for another 6 weeks and everything is looking good and growing well. Also heard the heartbeat which was an amazing experience.

JackGordonsMummy · 23/03/2020 22:24

Hi everyone how are we all?

Anyone else totally freaking out about giving birth at this uncertain time I know there is still 17odd weeks to go but I can't help but worry

Hope you are all safe and well xx

Hi @JackGordonsMummy
Yes I'm freaking out! I feel like bursting into tears all the time. I feel like the rest of my pregnancy has been robbed off all pleasure and joy. I can't see friends, family. Work was cut short and I couldn't say bye to everyone because realistically I prob won't be going back before baby comes.

On the other hand I'm spending lots of time with dd and ds. Very challenging as I'm working from home as well as watching them but nice to be spending lots of time with them 😊

Every cloud...

pottypotamus · 23/03/2020 22:44

Sorry for the rant ladies...I know it's a bit me me me. I'm glad the PM has toughened the social distancing measures. The more people listen, the faster this will be over. Just really feel for all the front line medical staff working their asses off.
Makes me feel ashamed to be venting about something so petty as having to stay indoors.

JackGordonsMummy · 23/03/2020 22:51

@pottypotamus I get you. All the private scan places are closed so no 4d scan this time (unless it goes back to normal before I give birth) I'm just hoping DP will be allowed to visit after the baby is born at the moment the rule is only 1 birthing partner and they are only allowed in when you are 9n active labour and have to leave after you have given birth. No visits on the hospital. I get it but I'm already so scared of giving birth again just unimaginable without support.

Keeping my DS entertained is almost impossible he just keeps asking to go put or to go see Gran. He doesn't get it cos he's only 2.

I'm so greatful for those key workers risking their lives for us and I know it's pretty easy to stay home in comparison but we all need a rant now and again hehe!

We have already been self isolating for 2 weeks as I had a cold/flu so it's nothing new to us. Just a crazy time to be having a baby xx

I am also feeling the same, just taking the positive that at least we arent due right now. I think that would be very scary. Hopefully by the time we are due things will be a lot calmer. I haven't heard of any restrictions in our hospital in regards to the birth as yet. I am seeing my midwife tomorrow so will ask. It's a very strange time, I never thought we would ever see anything like this in our lifetime! X

squirrelnutkins1 · 25/03/2020 09:21

Hope everyone's doing ok x

Mummy2be20 · 27/03/2020 12:43

Just wondering and this is slightly off topic, is anyone being furloughed which will take them up to maternity leave and then going on maternity? It's all abit confusing at my work currently.

I hope your all okay and staying as relaxed as you can at this nasty sad time xx

pottypotamus · 31/03/2020 11:23

Hello ladies, hope everyone is doing ok.
@Mummy2be20 not been furloughed, I'm able to WFH although with 2 kids at home as well, it's extremely difficult to get anything done. I'm considering taking an early maternity leave at the earliest possible.

I have my follow up scan at UCLH on Thursday. But not sure if it's still going ahead with a lot of hospitals cancelling non-essential scans. Not really sure how I feel about going into hospital now anyway.

JackGordonsMummy · 31/03/2020 12:15

Hey @pottypotamus I'm struggling with keeping 1 toddler entertained being nearly 24 weeks preg. I can't imagine how it is with 2 kids, working from home and pregnant! Hats off to you. I haven't worked from home. My DP works at the same place so he is doing it full time and I'm just looking after DS. My DP is a Manager so it's more important for him to work than me according to my work haha!

Try not to worry... I had a hospital appointment on Friday was so scary being in there with all this going on but the whole department was so efficient all the chairs in the waiting area were spaced out accordingly you were to wash your hands in the midwife room she wiped down and cleaned everything before and after use. Still so scary to be on that environment.

Will they call you and let you know if the scan is going ahead?

I have a couple of people on Facebook from where I live who had their baby at the weekend they were not permitted a birthing partner they had to do it all alone. Although it does still say on the nhs website you are allowed 1 birthing partner during labour and birth... hopefully by the time we are due it's changed back.

X

Hi @JackGordonsMummy I know how you feel, keeping a toddler entertained constantly is exhausting! I find myself looking forward to her after lunch naps! Blush
My 5 year old mainly keeps himself entertained, I try to give him some maths and English exercise books to do and some online learning games as well.

I called the hospital and said appts are still going ahead, but only the patient allowed.

I really feel for your friends that had to labour and birth alone. I'd be terrified alone. Fingers crossed we're at least allowed our DH/DP when it comes to it.

WeeScottishWife · 31/03/2020 20:02

I'm not furloughed yet, but the whole company has been told that we likely will all be for three week on/off periods or something along those lines soon. I'm still optimistic that we'll be back to normal before I am due to go on maternity leave in mid-July. We'll see. It's a stress I didn't need, feeling a little frustrated that we'd planned so carefully financially for when we had this baby and now (as for many people, I know) plans are changing.

Mummy2be20 · 02/04/2020 23:19

Is anyone any good at nub and skull theory!? I have sat and studied the scan photos from my 12 week scan and I am so confused as to what I should look for (especially nub😂)
We are 17weeks and having an early scan next week so was going to ask if we could find out gender x

5 weeks Pregnant
pottypotamus · 03/04/2020 16:06

I'm am terrible at guessing based on nub/skull, although I guessed ours correctly. The doctor that did my 24 week scan yesterday said he's fairly certain we are having a little girl 💕

@Mummy2be20 I would guess yours as girl, I have no explanation as to why though Blush

Good luck at your early scan!! xx

Mummy2be20 · 03/04/2020 16:16

@pottypotamus did you not find out at your 20 week?
I can't even see a nub on my scan photos haha. All family and friends have guessed girl (just as guesses) and my oh also things girl. I'm the only one who thinks boy!!
Thank you xx

pottypotamus · 03/04/2020 16:39

@Mummy2be20
I was hoping to go the whole way keeping the sex a surprise but the DH was being annoying about finding out at the next scan and because I've had so many scans and have at least another 3 growth scans, the temptation was too much. Especially when the doctor asked me outright whether I wanted to know.
