Help! According to my LMP (04/10/19) I should be 4 weeks & 5 days pregnant. I had some pain so I went for a scan today, nothing at all showed up on a scan. My HCG levels are at 435 and they are repeating my bloods in 48 hours. Any advice? Confused

It’s completely normal to not see anything so early in pregnancy.. you are very early for a scan, I’m amazed they sent you. Baby is smaller than a poppy seed, so you can see why they can’t identify anything on a scan! From about 5/6 weeks they can see the sac & possibly the HB! So I really wouldn’t worry about that bit.. stomach pain in pregnancy is normal as well, sometimes ligament pain has me doubled over!

I’m not so clued on HG levels..

Jesskir89 · 06/11/2019 21:34

I had a scan at 6 weeks and they couldn't see anything only through an internal. I went back at 8 weeks and they could then see the baby.

NearlyGranny · 06/11/2019 21:41

Depends where baby is tucked away. I was scanned at period due date +1 because of a previous ectopic pregnancy and they could see a tiny sac. There were actually two, but only one showed up on the scan, so...

But a +ve pg test and blank scan will mean they watch you carefully in case the pregnancy is ectopic (in a tube or even on an ovary)

Fingers crossed there's a nice little pulsing sac on the next scan.

Blippolbblopp · 06/11/2019 21:46

I remember finding out i was pregnant with DD and had an early scan. I should of been 7 somthing weeks but was actually 5 week somthing. Literally just saw the fetal pole and yolk sac. They said i would of just ovulated later in my cycle

I had an early scan due to a few losses

Blippolbblopp · 06/11/2019 21:47

Sorry meant to say 2 weeks later there was a heartbeat and the pregnancy was fine, DD is nearly 5

Northernlurker · 06/11/2019 21:50

Not seeing anything really doesn't mean anything at this point. The critical thing is whether your hcg doubles or more. Good luck for the next test.

loveyourself87 · 07/11/2019 07:31

Really surprised you got scanned so early especially when there usually isn't much to see at that stage!

Bellasblankexpression · 07/11/2019 07:36

Did they see any kind of thickening? I’m not surprised that they couldn’t see anything of an actual baby, previously friends have been refused scans prior to 6-7 weeks for this precise reason.
Sorry you’re in this limbo OP, waiting around is really hard

Livefast123 · 07/11/2019 09:11

@Bellasblankexpression they never said anything at all and I’m clueless to ask that question about the thickening.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow

Hey I'm 4+4days!
I've already had a scan at 4 weeks Because of previous ectopic pregnancy. Which resulted in one of my tubes being removed.

They couldn't see anything. Therefore
Bloods were taken and repeated and they doubled so current bloods as of yesterday was 445hcg.

I am due to have another scan on Friday.

So we will have to wait and see. As long as the bloods HCG level double every 48 hours
Then they are happy but prefer to be able to see it on scan too.

Good luck and let me know how
You get on xxx

kikibo · 07/11/2019 11:20

With an internal there should be something to see.
I went early like this with DS, which surprised my ob, but otherwise we could see a tiny bubble with a dark dot in the middle. At 6 weeks it was much much bigger and irregular in shape (also internal).

Livefast123 · 07/11/2019 11:44

@kikibo it was an internal that I had. They never mentioned they seen anything on the scan 😔

emzyemz85 · 07/11/2019 11:47

@Livefast123 don't get too upset. From other posts and speaking to others it's completely normal not to see anything even with vaginal scan.

I'm not expecting anything tomorrow either. I reckon they will just scan again next week!

Have they done bloods or said what is happening next?
X

Livefast123 · 07/11/2019 11:50

@emzyemz85 yeah my bloods where done yesterday hCg of 435. Back tomorrow 48 hrs after initial bloods to have them retook and then go from there. Hopefully they have doubled. Fingers crossed for you! Xx

emzyemz85 · 07/11/2019 11:52

Yeah mine doubled from 225 on Sunday to 445 Tuesday. Consultant was happy with them enough.

I'm really anxious about tomorrow and have to go on my own :(

tisonlymeagain · 07/11/2019 12:02

It's too early to see anything on a scan.

My EPU routinely won't scan before 6 weeks because of this. Saying that I was scanned at 5+3 because my HCG was 14,000 at 5+1 so they said at that level something should show. All that was there was a gestational sac and a yolk sac. No sign of fetal pole or anything. I was scanned again at 7+1 and there was a tiny heartbeat.

Moomin8 · 07/11/2019 12:06

Way too early to see anything. I know it's hard but just try to stop thinking about it and stop having scans for a good few more weeks. There really is no point.

Moomin8 · 07/11/2019 12:07

Sorry didn't mean to sound harsh. From personal experience I just know that all early scans do is cause worry and stress.

KHall84 · 07/11/2019 12:09

They wont see anything until hormone levels reach 1500 or 6 weeks which ever comes first I had scan at 5 weeks 5 days and nothing and again at 6 weeks 2 and there it was those few days really do make a difference

emzyemz85 · 07/11/2019 12:29

@Moomin8 the reason why there scanning is because I have pains constantly on and off and I only have one tube!

there not going to scan for no Reason on the NHS unless they are concerned. I'm following what the consultant and gynae drs have said. I feel more relaxed knowing they are monitoring rather than doing nothing and chancing my one time to have a baby!

Also by Friday my HCG levels should be on the cusp.

Also I thought this was meant to be supportive chat @Moomin8 your comments aren't at all, that's the only comment you posted which tbh really isn't needed in this forum

emzyemz85 · 07/11/2019 12:33

@KHall84 mine
Will be on the cusp! It's strange how EPU differ up and down the uk x

emzyemz85 · 07/11/2019 12:35

@Livefast123 let me know how
It goes please! Sending you all the luck in the world xxxxxSmile

Moomin8 · 07/11/2019 12:40

there not going to scan for no Reason on the NHS unless they are concerned.

But in my experience they are very quick to tell you you've had a miscarriage early on when they can't really know either way) this happened to me twice and they were wrong - those 'miscarriages' are now 15 and 10 year old girls) . None of my pregnancies were very visible until at least 9 weeks.

The main reason they scan early is to check for ectopic pregnancy, especially if you have cramps / pain which of course is understandable as it's dangerous.

There are plenty of things which affect what you can see on a scan such as whether you have a tipped uterus.

Ultimately, there is nothing that can be done to save a pregnancy that isn't going to be viable this early on anyway no matter how many scans you have iyswim. The best thing you can do is try to let each week unfold and if you have no miscarriage symptoms then no news is good news until 12 weeks Smile

Moomin8 · 07/11/2019 12:42

@emzyemz85 I'm sorry you don't find my posts supportive but I am posting from my own experiences of early scans which I found to be stressful. And trying to give reassurance that just because you don't see anything on a scan at 4 weeks is not actually a concern.
