Thanks ladies as always. Dr called back I'm not dehydrated urine sample was pretty ok she said there was a little protein and tiny speck of blood so to be on the safe side they will send it off to check for infection.
Taken some medication so let's see if it helps!

I've been critical of the gp before but these 2 have been amazing to me (think they've both suffered as well!)

Trying to eat little And often and drink lots

MrsEG · 24/10/2019 15:24

@purplefig I’m trying very hard to steer clear of Google. Intuition is always best I think! There’s almost TOO much information online about pregnancy, it’s overwhelming. I tried to get a GP appt but they were full, but told me to call first thing tomorrow and get an emergency appt when I told her what was up. Struggling walking a little bit today. Mat leave starts 18 December! Nope not going as Juno the costume was too complicated in the end (I had nothing that fit that would work!) so just going as a pumpkin!! Enjoy your first night with your pillow - DH calls it my second husband!

@PippaPug Really hope all was excellent at your scan today!

@MrsH497 I think it’s great news they’ve signed you off - you need to rest and put yourself first! Don’t worry about work, it’s only two weeks. They’ll have to cope without you for a good few months soon!!

@thumper59 How have you coped with the pelvic pain? I can’t decide what to do for the best - going for a walk seems to make it worse? Ahh I can’t believe he’ll be making his entrance soon!! Sending labour vibes!

thumper59 · 24/10/2019 15:31

@MrsR16 aw that's amazing, yeah he sometimes rams his feet under my ribs which is lovely 😂 I swear he does a full body stretch and it's like a pole across my body so I can't bend when he is like that.

@purplefig yep not long! Hope your well x

@MrsEG I've just tried to keep my legs together getting in the car/ out of bed. And I've been using hot water bottles and those weeties you know what you put in the microwave. Sleeping with my pregnancy pillow really helps. It's an every day pain though I've found unfortunately, especially since he's been head down which I think was 28 weeks. don't push yourself! If you need to sit and rest then rest xx

Tropicana1 · 24/10/2019 16:28

@Fivebyfive2 that's a good idea - I constantly forget to do my pelvic floor exercises (your message has now prompted me haha, so now I'm sat in the hairdresser doing them 😂)

@MrsEG I really want David to win gbbo too! Feel like it's being set up for Steph though and has been edited that way for the last few weeks.

@TrashKitten10 sorry things aren't going to plan, but sounds like you're approaching the change in a really sensible positive way which is the only thing you can do! Is there any reason you can't still have a water birth with the induction?

@purplefig pillow between the knees 🙌🏻 first time I did it before I'd chosen my preg pillow I woke up like 😱 who knew it could help so much haha!

The GP prescribed me some omeprazole for my acid reflux / heartburn earlier this week and it has made SUCH a difference. I was getting through a bottle of gaviscon plus rennies in less than a week and still in constant pain, but haven't had to take anything other than the omeprazole all week. Feeling so much more comfortable

purplefig · 24/10/2019 16:41

Guys...my pillow has arrived...and you have to wait 48 hr for it to fully fluff up. Wahhh!!! For reference, this is the one I ordered: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07JR3T1G6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8 ... full review coming in 48 hrs!

@MrsEG I get what you mean about there being too much info. And while we'd all like to be sensible and just trust the NHS and NICE guidelines etc. mumsnet threads from 2009 have a certain appeal when you're frantically googling at 1am...urgh. Sorry to hear you're struggling to walk, that sounds really, really rough. Hope you get an emergency appointment tomorrow and they can refer you for physio or whatever they think will help you. You can't go on like that until Dec/Jan.

@Tropicana1 ahh it was you! Well thank you, you superstar - I haven't slept that well in forever! Glad your acid reflux has improved with the omeprazole. I've only had it a couple of times and it's so uncomfortable.

@thumper59 nothing major to complain about thanks! How are you enjoying mat leave? I hope you're getting some rest in and just going Hinch crazy Grin.

I hope everyone's pregnancy ailments ease up soon, we're having a right old time of it on this thread! x

Lemonysherbet · 24/10/2019 17:49

Hey all,

Everyone seems to be a bit in the wars lately and I'm sorry I'm too tired to reply to everyone individually but wanted to say I hope you all feel better soon, sending all the get well vibes.

Did or does anyone have a crazy dry throat? It's so dry it's making me gag which isn't really helping the nausea, it's a circle of crap!

MrsR16 · 24/10/2019 19:20

Evening @Lemonysherbet I always feel as though I'm drinking far too much! 😂 i can't sympathise too much with the crazy dry throat though...

Has anyone got a list of what they've packed in their hospital bag? DH said I should probably start getting things sorted... I'm always a last minute packer!

purplefig · 24/10/2019 19:41

@Lemonysherbet it's almost a cliche at this point, but hot water with a good squeeze of lemon and a dollop of honey feels marvellous on a sore throat. Hope it eases off soon.

@MrsR16 I posted my v preemptive and potentially OTT list before and a few people found it useful, so I'll post it below. This is with a MLU water birth in mind - obviously no idea if that'll happen for me, but good to be prepared right?!

MrsR16 · 24/10/2019 19:48

@purplefig ooh! I remember your list! That looks pretty good!

purplefig · 24/10/2019 19:51

@MrsR16 sure there's vital stuff missing and plenty of superfluous bits. Wonder what @crossfitgirl @stormtrooperjulian et al (I'm terrible at remember names) found necessary / unnecessary? Guess some of it will depend on what kind of labour you're having - though guess you never know and good to be prepared for all sorts.

TrashKitten10 · 24/10/2019 20:02

@MrsR16 Thank you! It's super exciting ☺️ Doesn't feel like five minutes since I was sat on the loo looking at the pregnancy test!

@MrsEG That's great to hear about your friend, I was trying to do my research into how induction works and what my options are and ended up reading SO many horror stories that it's great to read some positive accounts of having an induction. Sorry to hear you're struggling and in pain at the moment, have you spoken to your midwife about it? In my area we can self refer straight to the hospital physio team if we have symptoms of PGP, not sure if that's the same everywhere.

@purplefig Please do spam me, I'm lapping up all the positivity I can find right now. Didn't think about the positive birth company blog to look at but I've been reading some great stories on their Facebook group, are you joined up to that?

@PippaPug Thanks lovely 🥰 how was your scan?

@MrsH497 Thank you! :) sorry to hear you're really suffering at the moment and it's great your GP was so supportive. I sobbed with anxiety about visiting mine and persuading them I was in enough discomfort to be signed off and she was just like 'how long do you want off?' Complete panic over nothing. Try not to worry about work, it's unfortunately one of those things and why pregnancy absence isn't counted against us.
How many weeks are you now? Really hope your sickness improves soon.

@thumper59 Thank you for your lovely words :) hope you manage to shift your cold quickly before little man starts making a move

@Tropicana1 My hospital won't let you use the MLBU if you've been induced with drugs and there's only one pool in the labour ward so not a huge chance of getting it. The consultant wasn't particularly committed about me labouring in water and said I may be able to if I didn't end up on the drip but that they'd probably want me out of it when pushing because of baby's size. You never know though, it's not ruled out completely. Glad your heartburn has improved and you're feeling more comfortable :)

@purplefig Fantastic list and reminds me to pack my lip balm!

Extra things I've got packed that may or may not be useful:

-Battery powered fan
-Flannel for my head and water spray bottle

Safe to say I can't stand being hot Grin

MrsH497 · 24/10/2019 20:27

@TrashKitten10 I'm 10+5 they've put HG on my sick note. Taken some of the cyclizine and think it's helping take the edge of the nausea. I'm so grateful for a sympathetic gp. I was driving to work and se said turn around come to the surgery get the sick note and prescription and then go home.

MrsEG · 24/10/2019 20:36

@purplefig Excellent list! I have a few other bits - mine is literally just one long list but I’ve been given some good tips!

Dry shampoo
Dressing gown or a big comfy hoody
Peppermint tea to help with the post-birth poo (got that one from my sis!)
Lollies/sweets/sugary things to suck on
Ibuprofen/paracetamol
Hot water bottle for contractions
TENS machine if you plan on using
Big socks with sole grips / slippers
Headband/bobbles and hair brush
Disposable maternity underwear by Tena
Nipple balm (more as I may need a hospital stay)
Nursing bras / crop tops
Pillow to sit on in the car in the way home! If I have a section I can also use it as a support between my scar and the seatbelt :)

Thanks - I’ve got the GP hopefully tomorrow and I hope a referral will mean I can use my private healthcare at work and just get stuck right in to physio! Oh man your poor back! Take it easy!

@thumper59 Thanks for the tips lovely! Currently got my feet up at home (legs together!!) Hope you’re feeling okay!

@TrashKitten10 You will be just fine - think about how many women are induced every single day! The midwives and doctors will only want what is best for baby and you. I have all fingers and toes crossed that everything goes amazingly well!

Hi all! So happy it's Friday tomorrow and finally the weekend!
I've been feeling loads better last two days. Told my work colleagues about pregnancy yesterday and they were so over the moon for me, definitely cheered me up 😁

@purplefig sorry you had a research panic. It's so easy to get sucked into the Google black hole and end up reading horror stories. Don't beat yourself up for it, we all have wobbles. I hope you are feeling better and glad you had a better sleep last night!
Exciting that your pregnancy pillow has arrived! Hope it's proves to be useful once it's fluffed up!

@MrsEG as soon as I hit the second trimester my 'dampness' seems to have increased again after it calmed down for a bit. So much glamour 🙈
I'm sorry to hear about possible PGP.
I hope you manage to get a GP appointment tomorrow for a referral. Definitely the sooner you get it diagnosed, the better!

@TrashKitten10 lovely to hear from you! Please don't feel like a pregnancy failure. You and your body have done amazing hard work for the last 38 weeks. I'm sorry you've had such a rough time of it lately. How exciting you might be meeting your little bubba this Saturday, though!
Good tips about the fan! I get hot very easily as well, so that will come in really handy.

@ELW85 ah sorry to hear work has been so mental and you've got migraines on top of that! Don't worry about not being able to catch up on the thread. Getting a chance to relax and take care of yourself is more important!
I'm feeling a lot better thank you. Will still be bringing up some worries with midwife but I'm not as anxious about it anymore.

@PippaPug how exciting you felt your little ones move!! That must have been amazing!
I hope all went well at your scan?

@MrsH497 that's so great that the GP has signed you off work. Don't think about them and focus on yourself; your well-being is definitely more important. I hope you start to feel better soon!

@thumper59 glad your little man is behaving. Eek so excited for you that he could be here soon!! Hope the cold doesn't get too bad for you!

@Lemonysherbet I had a really bad dry throat! If I tried to clear it too much I ended up getting the hiccups and then started gagging a lot too. It wasn't fun! Soup helped me a lot with the dry throat.

Lots of love to you ladies, sorry to hear so many of you are not having a great time at the moment. You're all doing amazing though! ❤️
Also thanks for the hospital bag tips. A bit early for me, but I'm copying and pasting into my Notes for later 😁

Tropicana1 · 24/10/2019 21:56

@purplefig that list is amazing!! I am stealing that right now and @MrsEG your additions too! I've been thinking I need to start getting a list together but didn't even know where to start.

@PippaPug hope the scan went well 😊

Crossfitgirl · 24/10/2019 22:42

@purplefig thanks for the tag, omg it's so nice to see so many preggos on here! How far on are you all now? Aww I miss being pregnant! I remember the hospital bag dilemmas so well!! So my list was Huge, I packed loads but I hardly used any of it! Partly due to circumstances but I also way over packed.

For context, I had a straightforward labour and a water birth. I used a TENS machine for between contractions, a birthing ball, and that was basically it. I used breathing to get through all the contractions, nothing else really worked.

If I'd had time, I would have used some of the hypnobirthing tools I'd taken, but I spent the majority of my labour unfortunately parted from my bags, so didn't have much choice. My tips:

For labour: a comfy outfit. I put on a dress and a comfy crop top bra. (it was August though so warm enough). Easy access, and comfy. And could wear the crop top bra in the pool too.
I used a TENS machine which really helped, mainly to relax me between contractions as I found it annoying during them. I didn't wear the 2 nighties I'd got for labour, I wore the clothes I went in and just took them off when I needed to.
Drinks and snacks - take something you would usually have, and also that you like! I took coconut water. It was amazing. I also took lucozade, but would never usually have it. Tried to drink some for energy and hated it.
You definitely won't need any kind of entertainment such as kindle, headphones, tablet with films on etc. When in labour you will absolutely be unable to concentrate on anything like that, and afterwards you have a nice baby to keep your attention! Maybe take if you're being induced and expect to do a lot of waiting around though.

For after labour - absolutely essential for me:
Maternity pads
Paracetamol
Drinks and nice snacks
Phone /charger
Comfy pj's - I took button down nighties but ended up just in my knickers for most of time. They encourage skin to skin, so for breastfeeding and skin to skin, being topless was easiest. Plus I didn't want anything touching my nipples they got so sore with feeding very quickly. So maybe take pj bottoms and socks or slippers!
Dressing gown
Lanolin nipple cream!
Comfy bras
I'd say just take a couple of sets of breast pads as you don't really leak colostrum, I wore them more for comfort and padding and used one set per day.
Download an app to track feeding such as baby tracker, keeps track of which boob you fed off last, how many poos /wet nappies etc you've changed.
Nappies
Cotton wool pads - not balls. The balls are stupid. Trust me.
Swaddle blanket - I didn't take one but they swaddled the baby with towels and it helped her sleep
Toiletries
Hairdryer (felt amazing to wash my hair after)
If I'd had spritz for bits I would have taken it. My friend gave me some about a week later and it's amazing.
Feeding pillow

Things I didn't need:
Makeup (I took my full makeup bag and hair straighteners. You won't be fucked. Don't bother!)
Too many baby grows - as they encouraged skin to skin as much as possible, they wrapped baby in towels and blankets, and said don't bother putting vests on as it's faffy taking them off for skin to skin each time you feed. We only used 1 I think and it was the going home outfit.
Disposable knickers - I just wore my pregnancy knickers with the maternity pads in.

DH used the eye mask and earplugs. I didn't want to wear the earplugs as I wanted to be able to hear baby.

Ermmmm I think that's all my advice really. I'll have another look at your list and comment again if there's anything else. I'd take a lot less next time! But if in doubt, just take everything. You can always leave stuff in the car to get later if you need to.

Here's a cute pic of Olivia who is now 10 weeks old!

Catching up with TTC #1, thread 7!
Crossfitgirl · 24/10/2019 22:55

Only other thing id say is don't just take sweet things, take a range of things you might fancy as you don't know how you're going to feel. I couldn't eat during labour, but if I had, I think sweet stuff would have made me feel sick, I'd have had something plain or savoury, or just taken things I know I definitely like. I actually took cereal, because even when I'm super ill, I can always still eat cereal 😂
Don't forget partners will also need snacks, and they don't get meals. They won't want to live off sweets if you're in more than a day! Xx

MrsEG · 25/10/2019 05:42

@Crossfitgirl Oh look at her!! She is so gorgeous. How are you doing? Are you adjusting to motherhood okay? I remember my sister finding those early weeks very tough. Hope you’re doing okay my lovely xx
Thanks for the list! I am taking basically everything (I honestly reckon I’ll have at least two bags!) as with having twins, anything could happen, and it’s likely I’ll need a hospital stay - I’d be surprised if I was in less than a week! So packing everything but the kitchen sink haha!! Swaddles is a really good idea and I have some of those too! I’m with you on make-up too - I barely wear it day to day as it is! If I look shattered in any photos, that’s what grayscale filters are for haha!
So lovely to hear from you :) I’m 23 weeks this weekend, time is flying a bit now! Having them by 37 weeks so 3 and a bit months left!!

@LokiCat Ah it’s so nice once it’s all out in the open at work isn’t it! You’ll be getting bombarded with tips from all the mums in the office soon haha. I’ve quite enjoyed it though! As one big question for me has been ‘what are boys even like?!’ as I only grew up with a sister! So have been sourcing lots of tips on little boys :) The most common answer is honestly that they are ‘squishy’ and such Mamas boys and always want cuddles!!

Morning all!

Happy Friday! Thank you for your lovely, supportive words 😊 I’m feeling much better now and have a short day today before going to London to see Ian McKellen tomorrow!!

@purplefig - thank you for the advice, and you’re totally right we just need to be kind to ourselves, particularly at the moment!
I’m so pleased you’re feeling a bit better. That pregnancy pillow will be great 😊

@MrsEG - how are you doing? And thanks for the reassurance on the sneezing! Just another thing to add to the list of things to deal with, but of course totally worth it!

@PippaPug - how are you doing? I hope the scan was great 😊

@LokiCat - honestly, pregnancy can just be a cycle of new worries just as you’ve gotten rid of one, another pops up. But we’ve definitely all had the same thoughts and worries so we’re here for you! I’m pleased you’re feeling a little better but your midwife will definitely help.

@Crossfitgirl - she’s gorgeous! And thank you for the tips; very helpful. Did you have to stay in at all?

@MrsH497 - I’m pleased you’ve been signed off and your doctor is looking after you. Take care of yourself 😊

@MrsR16 - DH reminded me that this Christmas was our last one alone together. It’s such an odd but lovely thought that next year, the little one will be causing havoc 😂

I hope you all have wonderful days and have exciting weekend plans to look forward to? I’m WFH and struggling to get motivated to get my laptop on 😂

PippaPug · 25/10/2019 09:07

Thank you everyone for your kind messages!
@MrsR16 @purplefig @TrashKitten10 @LokiCat @ELW85

The scan went really well, called in on time which is always a bonus and took 75 mins to check but babies have all 20 fingers and 20 toes plus everything else!
We still don’t know the gender, Pip was happy floating around to let the sonographer take all measurements but Pop was little shy and decided to cross their legs until the last minute!

Cervix is good as well - currently not looking like pre term delivery (I know it can change but that’s reassuring) and spoke to the twin midwife who I’m now under - who is lovely, given me some information on twins clubs and breastfeeding groups etc and told me that due to where I live I’m under a fantastic hospital as it’s the only one in the County which is a fetal medicine unit so everyone who works there has been trained in London under the Kypros Nicolaides programme - and Kypros Nicolaides is a leading specialist in fetal medicine - detecting anything wrong with babies before they are born, and in some cases even being able give babies surgery before they are born, which is amazing! So makes me feel more confident that they know what they are doing and for me to put my trust into them.

The babies are currently wriggling around now so I’m very happy Grin next scan is in 4 weeks and my mum will come to that one ☺️

PippaPug · 25/10/2019 09:16

@Crossfitgirl - Thank you for the list, very helpful!

@MrsEG - how are you getting on, how’s the pain?
I have been thinking about packing - I’m going to one one suitcase (hand luggage) for me, and then one for the twins and will leave extra nappies/cotton wool etc in the car to save bringing them up to the ward.

@Crossfirgirl - Olivia is beautiful and I love the name!

@Tropicana1 - sorry I didn’t realise you asked about the scan as well! How are you getting on?

Does anyone have any plans over this weekend? My friend is having a meal before her baby is due, she’s 13 weeks ahead of me which is super exciting and then on Sunday my friend and I are going to go shopping to see what bits she needs to get and I’m sure I will buy bits and bobs too.

Don’t know if anyone has seen Tesco’s has a offer till the 5/11 that two packs of rascal and friends nappies are £10 instead of £8 each - they are bleach free, no latex and fragrance free....I haven’t used them before at work only because most my clients don’t shop at Tesco 🙈 but they are supposed to be really good ☺️

purplefig · 25/10/2019 09:27

@TrashKitten10 Ahhh did you do the course?! She's got a couple of great videos on having a positive induction that I'd deffo re-watch. I am in the FB group, it's such a lovely read. I try and read one or so a day and it's really working to get rid of all the negative/traumatic connotations I have with birth (thanks, one born every minute!). Great shout on the flannel front too - will add to my list.

@MrsEG Dry shampoo!!! Your own pain relief!!! PILLOW SEAT!!! Excellent suggestions. Oh my list is going to be huge at this rate. I'll need to pack our wheely suitcase Grin.

@LokiCat glad to hear you're feeling better! What are you up to this weekend? Thanks - I'm watching it like a hawk waiting for it to fluff up to my ridiculous pregnant woman expectations, it's getting there.

@Tropicana1 it's a bit overwhelming if you haven't given birth before isn't it? I just googled it and collated loads of ideas from lots of different forums / blogs etc. But then, I love a bit of procrastination at work Grin .

@Crossfitgirl so lovely to hear from you and just LOOK AT YOUR GORGEOUS OLIVIA!!! Cannot believe she is 10 weeks already. That dress is just outrageously cute. How's motherhood treating you? Thanks for all your advice, some absolute golden nuggets! Out of interest - how come you were parted with your bags for so long? Just being nosy as your birth is basically my dream scenario! Also, did you buy your own TENS machine? I'm 24+4 today and time is just utterly whizzing by!

@ELW85 ooo work from home on a Friday AKA the dream weekend transition...enjoy!

@PippaPug glad it went well - it's just such a lovely feeling of relief isn't it? So cool you can feel them wriggling around now too!

Happy Friday everyone! What are we all up to this weekend? I'm having a super quiet one tonight as DH is on a rare night out, so currently debating how to make the most of the alone time. Then tomorrow we're off to town where I plan to get the majority of my Christmas and upcoming birthday presents, as it's just not a bit of life admin I want to be dealing with when heavily pregnant! Think Sunday we're just going to have super laid-back one, as last weekend was manic what with the 8 hr trip up for the wedding / my midnight dancing antics Grin. x

MrsEG · 25/10/2019 09:30

@ELW85 Glad you’re feeling a bit better! The sneeze pain did stop for me at about 20 weeks - now when I sneeze my bump just feels very tight! Ahh enjoy Ian! He’s a local hero where I’m from, I went to school with his nephew! He even got me this picture as I was such a LotR nerd back then. I was invited round to meet ‘Uncle Ian’ to pick it up but was too nervous to go - biggest life regret haha!

@PippaPug Oh I’m so pleased all went well! You really are in there for ages aren’t you?! That’s interesting about your cervix - no one checked mine! Did they say anything about where your placentas are? I have one posterior and one anterior and I’m definitely feeling one more than the other! Which way were they both lying? Mine were head down at 20 weeks but I can tell from movements now they’ve bloody shifted transverse again!! Back to my birthing ball I go haha!

Feeling a bit crap today. Called the GP at 8 as instructed and whilst sympathetic she said the physio waiting lists at the moment are so long ‘you’d have had your babies by the time you got an appointment’. She said to try my midwife as they may have specialists who can hurry me along but I think I’ll just go private. I’ve seen an osteo privately twice so will switch to physio as apparently it’s better suited to PGP. But just feel really fed up!

@purplefig My turn to cross post you today!! Oh I’m definitely taking a wheelie suitcase, not lifting anything! Especially as DH will have a car seat in each hand when we leave so it’ll be me dragging it back to the car!! Enjoy your quiet weekend, and all the shopping! I only need to get my niece something now and she’s obsessed with peppa pig so that should be nice and simple! We have the Halloween party tomorrow, it’s a daytime affair luckily! Then Sunday we’re attacking the nursery walls to get them finished so I can get the curtains and light up!

OP posts:
purplefig · 25/10/2019 10:38

@MrsEG your weekend sounds lovely and it'll be so satisfying getting the nursery prepped. Good shout on the wheelie front...may well do that then 🤣 just wasn't sure how much clobber was too much to drag in?? So sorry to hear the nhs physio wait list is so long in your area, that sucks. At least you can go private and fingers crossed they work their magic on you. It's not the same as you at all (way less painful that PGP!) but when I had my wobble the other day I think it slightly stemmed from the fact it's easy to feel fobbed off and alone in pregnancy. Yet the upshot of you not getting physio is huge, and so it's easy to feel like the system hasn't got your back (or pelvis)! And what about people who can't access private care for whatever reason? I'm probably veering on the dodgy territory of politics now, but I wish the government would properly fund and staff the NHS. Ok rant over. Let us know how you get on finding a more timely physio. X
