Did anyone else only do one pregnancy test?

I’ve read quite a few posts on MN where people say they’ve done multiple pregnancy tests that have all shown a positive, so they absolutely definitely must be pregnant.

I only did one - a simple Clearblue test which shows a cross in the second window if you’re pregnant. The positive line was very dark so it was quite conclusive. It said on the instructions that it’s 99% accurate so I didn’t think to do another a week later or anything just to check.

Should I have just in case?

Ive only ever done one when I thought I might be pregnant, and I've always taken that one tests word for it. Always been correct so far, and I've done many over the years.

TeaForDad · 13/09/2019 17:06

One is fine! Unless you don't feel pregnant...?

We almost didn't bother at all with dc2 but got a cheap one instead

EscapeTheOrdinary · 13/09/2019 17:07

I only took one and then worried after but it was so clear it would have been a waste of money getting more. Clearblue aren't the most sensitive of the tests so if you got a strong positive it is highly unlikely it's wrong.

I only did 1, very clear positive result within about 4 seconds of putting the stick into my pee!

Woodlandwitch · 13/09/2019 17:08

I only did one

Woodlandwitch · 13/09/2019 17:08

They cost so much money Grin

Megan2018 · 13/09/2019 17:10

I did 2, had a strong positive at 4 weeks (as I thought, was actually 4+3), then did another the following week just to check as couldn’t believe it.

HeadintheiClouds · 13/09/2019 17:11

What possible advantage is there to doing more than one?

ReggaetonLente · 13/09/2019 17:13

I've only ever done one in my life! It was positive. And about 9 months later DD turned up, so i think it was accurate.

rubyroot · 13/09/2019 17:15

Yep one. People who do multiple ones are sometines women who have had losses and so are checking fir a strong definite line. There's no need to do more than one

rubyroot · 13/09/2019 17:16

@Woodkandwitch you can get very cheap ones now. I got a pack of 4 for 75p. Even cheaper if you use one step ovulation tests.

tacosplease · 13/09/2019 17:17

It all just feels very surreal to me I think (the pregnancy was unplanned and it’s my first as well). I keep looking at the test in disbelief!

Four for 75p! They used to be around a tenner each...

OccasionalNachos · 13/09/2019 17:19

@tacosplease

I did two because I was in the same situation - first pregnancy, unplanned, a bit shocked. I did a second test about ten days later because I still had no symptoms apart from a lack of period!

Wowzel · 13/09/2019 17:20

I was so surprised that I did 7...

rubyroot · 13/09/2019 17:21

Pound stretcher.. Just cheap dip sticks

Angelinthenightx · 13/09/2019 17:39

One is enough a pos means u are pregnant.congratulations x

weegiemum · 13/09/2019 17:40

I did my pregnancy testing long ago when tests were expensive.

Dd1 - tested day after period due, positive

Ds - tested 2 days after period due - positive.

Dd2 - was not expecting to be pregnant as I had a mirena. Dh brought a "just going out of date to be thrown out" test home from work (GP) and it was positive, I was 9 or 10 weeks by then (I didn't have a LMP to date from).

I've also had 3 mc - all only tested once as well.

6 pregnancies, 6 tests.

If tests had been cheap I would have driven myself to be ill through multiple testing, and I think some people nowadays do make themselves quite unwell with repeated testing, testing from early on (earliest I think I've seen was 6 days po) which is why I usually stay off these threads!

WhyBirdStop · 13/09/2019 18:42

I did two, because I had been told I wouldn't be able to conceive without fertility treatment, so when I did a basic boots one (all I had in the back of a drawer) I didn't trust it and went and got a clear blue digital which said 3 weeks+!

TokyoSushi · 13/09/2019 18:43

One here too, I wasn't on here at the time and it didn't occur to me to do any more!

Weathergirl1 · 13/09/2019 18:48

I did about 3 of the One Step tests (which are less than 10p each), two were before my period was due and were quite feint. The last one I did was after I was late and was a decent line. I wouldn't have been doing multiple tests of the FRER/Clear blue variety though - waste of money (and too much plastic in the bin!)

gamerchick · 13/09/2019 18:51

I only tested once. I'm of the wait until period is late before testing school of thought though. Just don't see the point of testing early and putting yourself through all of that tbh.

BlueBilledBeatboxingBird · 13/09/2019 19:21

There are a lot of obsessive people who use MN (no criticism, just an observation). It isn’t always a great barometer for usual behaviour.

Rubberyduck · 13/09/2019 19:42

I only did 1 and it was a twin pack. It didn't occur to me to do another tbh.

paperplant · 13/09/2019 19:49

only did one per pregnancy. booked the booking in appt after it came positive.
