Did anyone else only do one pregnancy test?

I’ve read quite a few posts on MN where people say they’ve done multiple pregnancy tests that have all shown a positive, so they absolutely definitely must be pregnant.

I only did one - a simple Clearblue test which shows a cross in the second window if you’re pregnant. The positive line was very dark so it was quite conclusive. It said on the instructions that it’s 99% accurate so I didn’t think to do another a week later or anything just to check.

Should I have just in case?

(was surprised they didn't do a pregnancy test at the booking in appointment!)

DramaAlpaca · 13/09/2019 19:54

Only one for each pregnancy here.

Timeless19 · 13/09/2019 20:00

I bought some cheapies from amazon prime, only did the 1 as soon as I peed on it a line appeared it was pretty definitive!

Luckystar1 · 13/09/2019 20:08

I’ve done so many tests. I’ve had 5 pregnancies, 2 children. My first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage after I’d seen a heartbeat and told family. I completely envy those people who do 1 test, I wish I was one of you!

Sweetooth92 · 13/09/2019 20:16

Just the one here,
Though I’m pro actually waiting for a late period rather than inventing symptoms in my head a week before I’m late and pissing on £100 before they even have chance to work 🤷🏼‍♀️ Suspect that makes a difference

sashamichele · 13/09/2019 20:23

5 kids here and only ever did one test with each pregnancy. Never crossed my mind to do another 😬

mumto2unicorns · 13/09/2019 20:25

Every test I did was always negative. Then had ivf twice waited for the blood test both positive. Weird to never had a positive test at home

kikibo · 13/09/2019 20:25

I tested only once for DD, as I was a week late so was expecting a positive anyway because I could normally set my watch to my period

With DS, I think I tested three times. Because I didn't believe I could be pregnant at the second attempt and also because there was only one test out of 5 left, so I thought I might as well use them all up. The previous month, I had tested twice too, because I had had weird cramps and AF was late.

For my current pregnancy, I tested twice, because I was a bit shocked it was a successful second attempt again, with a hesitant second line at that. I've still got 8 tests though, so I'm not neurotic. 😂

Newmumma83 · 13/09/2019 20:28

If it’s positive it’s positive... saying that I did loads of test ( brought the cheap pack of three little strips where you pee into a cup ...brought throw away ones and checked most days 😂 ) but I didn’t believe pregnancy could make you feel so ill! I thought I was dying .. but the test were for me it didn’t change he outcome just reassured me ... congratulations x x x

neverornow · 13/09/2019 20:37

I'm a chronic tester...did about 10 tests each pregnancy...for fun more than anything. Cost a fortune but I was just so thrilled and excited as I waited for the big fat positive for so long that it was a novelty to see the 2 lines come up!! I've kept them all as well Grin

TimeIhadaNameChange · 13/09/2019 20:41

I did about 4, but only because I wanted to see a blatant line and the previous ones were very faint. As soon as I had a result that was definite I stopped testing.

pottypotamus · 13/09/2019 20:50

I always do loads. Because I've experienced chemical pregnancies, where the tests get lighter and eventually negative. And then AF showed up heavier and more crappy than usual.
I guess I'm just nervous/anxious about it happening again and want to see the test lines get progressively darker.

MamaGothel · 13/09/2019 20:53

I'm a chronic tester Grin despite irregular periods I always seem to know the second it happens, so my first tests are always very faint and then I check to see if they get darker. My ectopic pregnancy never got darker so it helps to reassure me before I have an early scan. And with several years trying between my pregnancies, it's just fun and exciting to see 2 lines come up.
I wish I could take one test and get on with it, but early pregnancy makes me so anxious.

RedPandaFluff · 13/09/2019 20:57

Yeah, just the one.

(Every six hours 😆)

Redcrayons · 13/09/2019 21:02

Yep, just one. I was 2 days late and I'm never ever late so I knew it was right. Wouldn't have occurred to me to do another one.

And I've still got the test. DCs think it's gross.

Sweetoblivion · 13/09/2019 21:49

I did 2 with my 1st because I wasn't expecting to be pregnant, we were 'waiting to see what happened' rather than 'trying' and as I'd been on the pill for about 8 years at that point I was waiting for my first period off it, I'd not really known when to expect my period whilst on it because I'd just wait till my pack ended, although I'd often miss one or two here and there or take a pack consecutively towards the end, knowing pregnancy wasn't a big deal for us. So it never showed up and I found out at 2 weeks pregnant (actually pregnant, 2 weeks post conception obviously) and had to go to the EPU because I had no idea whether I was 2 or 12 weeks, I tested positive then DH ran out for a Clearblue. With My 2nd it was exactly the same, stopped pill after fucking about and tested after realising no period came and 2 weeks pregnant again! I had more of an idea then of how far along I was likely to be- one dtd in months.
From what I gather on here the serial testers are women very much hoping to be pregnant and getting their hopes up every month- I can't knock them, it must be so upsetting.

Poppins2016 · 13/09/2019 21:54

I'm of the opinion that 'a line is a line', however I was so shocked at conceiving naturally and my line was so faint that I took another two tests (different brands)... then used up a further test the following week just because I had a spare test and I could! If I'm lucky enough to get pregnant again I'll probably just use the one test (that I have leftover from the first time, as long as it's in date!).

MissPepper8 · 13/09/2019 22:07

I did 3.. I felt super sick after a gastro bug (thought this deffo isn't the bug anymore) and DH splashed out on some Poundland double box on the way home from a farm park 😂.

I did both in disbelief and then a clearblue a week later (I wanted to date it..)

Podemos · 13/09/2019 22:08

I think it's very easy to say 'a line is a line'/ 'a positive is a positive' if you've never experienced any problems conceiving. The infertility board is full of us crazy testers seeing if the test gets darker and praying it's not a chemical or checking it doesn't get lighter which could be a sign of an early miscarriage. (Of course it's probably very unhealthy mentally and unlikely to actually tell you that ^ but thank God for Amazon cheapies Smile )

KTCluck · 13/09/2019 22:17

I did two. I only needed to do one - got a strong positive straight away, but I already knew I was pregnant. DH however was convinced it came up far too quickly and I must have done it wrong so insisted I did the other one in the pack Hmm. Had to wait an hour or so before I needed a wee again. Thankfully he believed the second one!

CalamityJune · 13/09/2019 22:18

To be fair POAS is pretty fun when your finally getting the result you want!

Nat6999 · 13/09/2019 22:47

I did one to actually find out I was pregnant then another one a couple of weeks later because my urine test at the doctors hadn't come back pregnant enough to be accepted & had to be repeated. I didnt know then that some pregnancy tests are more sensitive than others.

CookPassBabtridge · 13/09/2019 22:51

Just one each time! Weirdly I feel sad about never peeing on a stick hoping to be pregnant again Grin defo don't want more kids.

AwdBovril · 13/09/2019 22:53

I've always just done one test. When I was pregnant with DD I waited until I was a couple of days late before I did it. I already suspected I was, though - I felt really odd. I'd felt it before, with a positive test, but it didn't stay put for long.

Ticklemeelmo · 14/09/2019 06:57

I only did one and it was from Wilko, 99p for two. They're as accurate as any other. The result was unmistakable
