I'm Irish but DH isnt. He is happy with an Irish name if it is close to being phonetic but this limits choices. Any suggestions please.

Like Rory or Fionn

Cian and cillian seem to be pretty popular choices around here at the moment.

Lenny1987 · 20/08/2019 21:53

I love the name Darragh, and it isn't too far from phonetic

JaneJeffer · 20/08/2019 21:56

Fintan

MrsEG · 21/08/2019 06:53

We’re in the exact same boat at the moment!! The only ones we can agree on are:

Ruairi
Cormac
Art

Fuiseog · 21/08/2019 07:24

Some good suggestions there already. Maybe also Liam, Conall, Mánas, Ferdia, Rónán?
Will keep thinking about it!

BananaBooBoo · 21/08/2019 07:26

Senan is not Irish.

missmouse101 · 21/08/2019 07:36

Malachy is great! Niall? Or Liam?

Clickncollect · 21/08/2019 07:40

I have a Conor - my husband is Irish but I’m not.

Phuquocdreams · 21/08/2019 07:41

Aidan, Oran, Lorcan.

LorelaiRoryEmily · 21/08/2019 07:45

As pp said Senan isn’t Irish. It’s the English version of Seanàn.
I’m Irish, I have a Rory.

golddustwomen · 21/08/2019 08:14

Shaunieh95 · 21/08/2019 10:03

I'm calling my little one Conan xx

Stroan · 21/08/2019 10:18

I was your husband in this scenario, wanted an Irish name but as we live in Scotland it had to be either phonetic or very recognisable here. We went with Ruairi.

Other ones which fit the criteria:

Oran
Cathal
Dara
Ronan
Cillian

beanaseireann · 21/08/2019 10:30

I love Cathal.

Mel.
I kniw there was a St Mel because the cathedral in Longford is called St. Mel's.

rugshade · 21/08/2019 11:30

Conan isn't an Irish name. Mel isn't a name in Ireland.

JaneJeffer · 21/08/2019 12:01

rug One of the Fianna was Conán and Mel is definitely a name in Ireland; I used to work with one!
