Hey @jessikka

Oh it's so lovely to see familiar names here and go through it together :) how exciting! How long have you known? I've been on cloud 9 until folic gate 😂 gonna go back to being super chill again now. How are you finding it all?

daisiesandpeonies · 21/08/2019 15:13

@MrsEG yay date twin!
I've been suffering from constipation too - I've found that a green tea is helpful (it's a laxative which is why it's recommended for weight loss 😂) Just remember it still contains caffeine so no more than two cups a day

TrashKitten10 · 21/08/2019 15:23

@Lemonysherbet well done you for going back! Don't take no messing :)

@daisiesandpeonies lovely picture, glad all is well!

@stormtrooperjulian @Tropicana1 You two working until 39 weeks makes me more confident about getting to 37. Although with two hours of commuting a day and a job that involves being constantly on my feet, crawling around and sitting on the floor and generally running and chasing around after 30+ toddlers and pre-schoolers at a time I may still be mad to think I can make it that farGrin

@MrsEG My tips would be get used to it in the second trimester as things certainly don't seem to have improved for me in the third 😂 yes to multiple pairs of knickers a day. I'm not normally a particularly damp kinda gal so turning into a human version of Niagara Falls has been a bit unexpected. As for the other issue, I'm eating prune porridge each morning which seems to have got things moving a little bit but it seems to be a bit all or nothing 🙈 I'm sure you can take lactulose in pregnancy if things are starting to really back up. Oh yes, the glamour indeed haha.

On another glamorous note I am suffering from awful wind. The other night I woke up in agony, couldn't move and was about to wake up DH terrified I had gone into premature labour when I managed to rock myself over slightly and let out a big fart. Instant relief and straight back to sleep. I'm very glad I didn't wake DH for that medical emergency 😳

stormtrooperjulian · 21/08/2019 15:51

@Lemonysherbet my doctors surgery has an online prescription request thing where you can just type in what you need and why and it's sent to the dr to review, I don't suppose yours has something like that?

@MrsEG no tips for the constipation, I did find that mine disappeared overnight going into the third trimester though, no issues at all any more
I bought a set of reusable panty liners to deal with the dampness down there, didn't want to have to use disposable ones every day and they work really well. Totally normal to have loads throughout second and third trimester!

@TrashKitten10 you might find getting up and down from the floor and being on your feet all day to be a challenge towards the end. I've got a desk job so day to day life is physically easy for me, no challenges like yours has! Moving around normally is definitely a lot harder for me than it used to be, I feel very awkward and clumsy.

purplefig · 21/08/2019 16:02

Hi all! I was MIA yesterday as I had a horrid headache that started the night before and only just went this morning. Paracetamol barely touched it. Ahhh lovely glam pregnancy! Feeling much brighter today though. Not least, because I had to pop into town to run an errand and felt the lure of the charity shop where I spotted the comfiest pair of maternity jeans...in my size...for £2.99!! Over the moon.

@LokiCat I hope you had fun shopping with your friends. Are you planning to keep quiet until 12 weeks?

@ELW85 ahhh the good old boob prod - I was definitely guilty of that too! Mine don't hurt anymore but they have bloody ballooned!! In terms of mat leave, plenty of people take less than the standard 9 months. I think it just depends on you and your lifestyle and what works for your situation to be honest.

@Tropicana1 I'm a bit like you and planning to do a lot of babywearing, so I'm really reluctant to spend loads on a pram as I'm really not sure how much use it'll get to start with. And I hear so many that shell out for expensive, bulky travel systems and then end up getting something lighter/easier to use once the baby is 6 months. So far I like the look of the Out N About Nipper - but I haven't actually tried one out yet. What about you?

@Lemonysherbet The peeing in the night is so annoying! Mine did calm down for a while though. I got to the point where I'd limit fluid intake in the evening hahaa. Sorry to hear about the rude pharmacist, he sounds a bit dim tbh! Have you managed to get it sorted?

@MrsEG so glad to hear pregnancy Pilates was nice - how did you feeling this morning? The first yoga session back after 12 weeks off I was embarrassingly sore!! It's way better now though. I'm thinking of trying swimming next. Re: constipation, I find a morning coffee helps get things moving. Before this kicked in a week ago, I had the opposite issue. You're right, it's just so glam.

@TrashKitten10 your fart emergency has made me howl!! I know exactly what you mean. I'm so bloated by the end of the day it's unreal.

@daisiesandpeonies congrats - lovely scan pic! On the caffeine restriction note, the book Expecting Better is very interesting. Digs into all the research behind the recommendations, and the evidence really isn't always there for all of them. I was quite shocked to be honest.

ImMeantToBeWorking · 21/08/2019 16:11

Was just flicking through the pregnancy page and saw this thread. Nice to see some names I recognise in here!!

Congrats to you all and best of luck in your pregnancies. Flowers

MrsEG · 21/08/2019 16:24

@Jessikka They’ll date you properly at your 12-week scan - I wasn’t totally sure of my dates at first either!

@daisiesandpeonies Used to love green tea but I’ve completely gone off it - saying that though I could probably give mint tea a go! Yay for date twins haha! My official due date is 23 Feb but will be having them a few weeks earlier :) How are you feeling at the mo?

@TrashKitten10 Human version of Niagra Falls is about right haha! I love your fart story so much - if it was me I probably would’ve woken DH and he’d never have let me live it down!! If it makes you feel any better my sisters gas in her third tri was unbelievable - she couldn’t even predict the farts coming anymore!!

@stormtrooperjulian Didn’t even know they did reusable ones! I will absolutely look in to this!

@purplefig Poor you! Hope you’re feeling much better. I’ve been getting some belting headaches, nothing has touched them at all. Mine almost always happen at the weekend too, joy!
Oh I loved the Pilates, yep so sore today! Embarrassingly so!! Signed up to the full course there and then though, and she does a pregnancy fitness class on Saturdays too which I’ll go to.
Annoyingly I don’t like coffee - that was DH advice (‘One espresso and I’m on the bog in no time’) - I’ve been googling ‘sources of fibre’ this afternoon though, got a bran muffin recipe some women swear by haha!

I found out today during general chat at work that a guy here has twins; they’re in school now but I asked how he found it and he said ‘I don’t remember - me and my wife refer to that first year as ‘The Fog’” - good to know haha!

Also after my horrible bout of anxiety at the weekend my lovely consultant just sent me such a reassuring email. I feel instantly calmer. I am such a fan girl for her haha!

purplefig · 21/08/2019 16:56

@MrsEG I love how much you love your consultant. With good reason though, she sounds amazing. Glad your anxiety has settled down, it's horrid when it rears its ugly head. Sorry to hear you've been getting headaches too - I never knew they were a common pregnancy thing before I got one. More glam preggo life. Also, sorry you're sore, but also: glad I'm not alone Grin !! The Saturday fitness class sounds good too. It really hit me after my post-yoga soreness that labour is essentially one epic workout, so I really am determined to get a bit fitter again. Oh if the bran muffins don't work, you could always just knock back an espresso for medicinal purposes?!

LokiCat · 21/08/2019 16:59

Hey ladies! So happy Wednesday is over, not long till the long weekend

@stormtrooperjulian that's great! Mines a desk job as well, so I'm hoping to do the same. I've already spoken to my manager about a few areas concern me and he's already put a plan in place should it become an issue. It's really helpful when bosses are supportive.

@ELW85 haha glad I don't have to feel too weird about self prodding! Hopefully I'll be at a stage soon where my symptoms comfort me.
Yeah, it'll just be nice to get away regardless of where we go!

@MrsEG I always did wonder how some women are so sure about what they're having!
Pregnancy Pilates sounds brilliant, especially if it helped you sleep so well! Your consultant sounds amazing as well, how nice of her! Dinner was great thank you 😊

@daisiesandpeonies Ahh what a beautiful scan! That must have been amazing to see!

@Lemonysherbet So sorry that the pharmacist was so unhelpful, he sounds like an idiot. I hope you were able to sort something out?

@TrashKitten10 oh no your fart story made me giggle so loudly on the train! Haha bless you, I'm glad it wasn't an actual emergency!!

@purplefig Ah I'm sorry to hear about your headache. Glad you're feeling better! Also, what a brilliant maternity jeans find - love a good bargain!
Shopping/dinner was lovely, thank you!
I'll probably start telling best friends, DH's family after our early scan and slowly tell others from 12 weeks. Although one of my friends mentioned yesterday that she thinks she may be pregnant and was asking me which tests are best to buy (since I've bought so many during my TTC journey 😂), so I'm debating whether to tell her if she does get a bfp.

I felt so embarrassed today; I was walking to the train station with a colleague and I was so breathless from walking and talking at the same time! I had to slyly slow down so I didn't just seem very unfit 🙈😂
TMI question - did you ladies get almost mucus like discharge early on? Whiteish/almost clear? Anything I google just mentions mucus plug which I thought appeared near labour? 🤔

PippaPug · 21/08/2019 17:01

@Lemonysherbet - I’m on double the amount of folic acid - I just went to a chemist (Morrison’s) and bought a second pot there as I just needed the folic acid but already taking pregnacare with it in.

It’s only £1 so much cheaper then going to a GP.

Just incase your like me - I would advise taking it in the morning, I was fine taking one tablet of FA in the evening but two and it tipped my sleep completely upside down so I now take both of them in the morning 😊

MrsEG · 21/08/2019 17:08

@LokiCat Pregnancy discharge is called Leukorrhea and that’s exactly what it is, clear/watery or white/off white. It’s totally normal, I got a bit of it at first and it slowly ramps up! You only need to worry if it looks yellow or green as this can be a sign of infection (I had a UTI a few weeks ago and it wasn’t pleasant) but otherwise is completely normal.

@purplefig I totally agree - even if I don’t end up having to push them out I just want to keep my fitness level at a standard that I won’t be crippled towards the end and have a hope of getting back in to a normal routine next year too. Ha maybe I should - just hold my nose and knock it back!! My sister was actually once hospitalised with a pregnancy migraine as she lost her vision for a short while. Honestly there’s just so much we don’t know about!

Jessikka · 21/08/2019 17:29

@lemonysherbert I found out early...though I hadn't planned too. I broke out in cold sores and a sore throat and something just told me I was. So I did a test and bam! I think my AF was due 2 days later but tbh I dont know when it was due as I have had irregular periods!

So ive known over 2 weeks now :)

purplefig · 21/08/2019 17:59

@LokiCat Glad you had a nice time shopping with your friends - that sounds like a pretty normal way to tell people. Totally get why you'd tell your BFP friend though. Also 1000% with you on the feeling unfit/having to slow down thing, bit tricky early on when nobody knows why! Like @MrsEg says it sounds like leukorrhea and it's completely normal.

@MrsEG Yes exactly that - it'll be so helpful having some fitness for afterwards. Though I wonder how I'll be feeling deep in the third trimester. I can't see a downward dog looking very graceful. Oh my god your poor sister, that sounds horrendous. I keep getting stars in my eyes and I had that weird eye floater a few weeks back, have to keep an eye on it (pun not intended, but I'll take it).

@Jessikka I got a cold sore the weekend I found out too! Hope you're feeling a bit less run down now.

Have a lovely evening everyone - I'm off to make twice baked cheese potatoes. Simultaneously beside myself with excitement and feeling like the world's worst vegan Blush. Definitely referring to myself as veggie henceforth!

MrsR16 · 21/08/2019 18:53

@TrashKitten10 you literally made me die laughing on the walk back to my car this evening! 😂

@MrsEG great to see your consultant's helped out with your anxiety 😊 that's one of the reasons she's there, I guess! It must be so reassuring for you hun.

Peanut's kicking away at the moment! It's been so active, it's wonderful! Although when I try to get into bed and it's still going, taking me 20-30 minutes to chill enough to get to sleep, then I do tell it off 😂

Lemonysherbet · 21/08/2019 19:33

Oh I'm an idiot. I took a clear blue digital as its DH birthday tomorrow and I thought it would be nice for him to see it in weeks. And it said not pregnant. Only have an IC in the house and it's showing nothing. I'm in a mess now. I know I need to just retest in the morning but it's put me in a panic. I've had such an emotional day, I should have thought it wasn't a sensible idea.

MrsEG · 21/08/2019 20:16

@purplefig How odd about your eyes; did they say what it might be before? Yep definitely keep an ‘eye’ on it, hormones do all kinds of crazy stuff.
I know what you mean about exercise later on - there was actually a box to tick on the form when I signed up that said ‘are you pregnant with twins and over 28 weeks’ and I asked why that mattered and she said ‘you can still come but you’ll be mostly lying down doing relaxation’ haha. Sounds good to me!!
Also, what are twice baked cheese potatoes?! Don’t worry too much about diet. I’m usually veggie and have had loads and fish and twice had chicken. I’ll revert back when they’re here but for now the hormones want what they want!!

@MrsR16 Oh how lovely!! I can’t wait for some movement. I love that you gave peanut a little telling off too!!

@Lemonysherbet Don’t panic; how far along are you, have you tested very early? The CB tests aren’t as sensitive as other ones and tend not to give a BFP til a few days after missed AF. Also as you say it’s the end of the day your urine could be very diluted. I’ll keep my fingers crossed it’s a fluke.

Lemonysherbet · 21/08/2019 20:18

I'm 5 weeks, af was due on Sunday just gone and that's when I got my positive. I've tried to have a word with myself to stay calm. And it was end of the day urine. I don't know why I did it. Silly move after the stresses of today!!!

MrsR16 · 21/08/2019 20:47

@MrsEG it is the most wonderful thing in the whole wide world, but I can imagine by the time Peanut arrives, I'll be ready to put them in their cot, kicking away to their heart's content and not having to kick me! 😂

@Lemonysherbet we all do crazy things sometimes! Don't worry - AF hasn't arrived, you're pregnant! Take a breath, chat with your OH, find something to do that you love and retest tomorrow morning if it'll help 😊

Fivebyfive2 · 21/08/2019 20:51

@MrsEG, you could try wheatabix and loads of water? Taking a walk maybe? If you're really stuck, ask the pharmacy and they could give you lactose. I have some but haven't actually had to use it... Yet! As for the discharge, not sure there's anything to do really. Just one of those lovely side affects I guess! Xxx

My work is a nightmare at the moment. I'm 20 weeks tomorrow, they've known since I was 6 sodding weeks and nothing has been made official. No meeting about my maternity leave/if I get a package, no arrangements for maternity cover yet and they're still expecting me to do all the extra crap I normally do. It's a nice place to work mostly, but a small company and they're not the most organised. Just a bit fed up at the moment.

On the plus side, have felt a different type of movement recently, almost like a little 'flip' feeling?! It's nice 🙂 Also, we're thinking of Zack/Zach for a name, although Jo/Joseph is still on the list!!

Anyone else excited for Peaky Blinders and Bake Off?! Xx

OP posts:
MrsEG · 21/08/2019 21:13

@Fivebyfive2 oh that’s really annoying. Is there anyone you can chat to to try and chase it up? So hard to plan for mat leave if you don’t know what you’re getting and when! We also love Zach!! Such a fab name. One of the few non-Irish ones DH will allow haha!
I am so excited for both. They film Peaky Blinders next to my old office - I’ve seen Cillian knocking around a few times. Even saw him in a local cafe once having coffee but me and my friend were way too nervous to say hello (so just and stared which was probably much more awkward for everyone). And I adore Bake Off too! I am in my office Bake Off sweepstake haha, bring it on!

@MrsR16 Haha yep! My niece is in a punching stage at the moment; I don’t think she really gets what she’s doing but we’ve all had a hearty slap off her recently haha! She also used to punch my sister in the boob when she was breastfeeding! Ah enjoy those kicks; won’t be long before you can see Peanut moving around in there!!

MrsR16 · 21/08/2019 22:26

@Fivebyfive2 I feel you when it comes to work! I've had to push every step of the way, including my risk assessment! It's not a fun position to be in at all. I'm still waiting to hear back from them in writing with confirmation I'm starting my mat leave on 9th December... they're running out of time to respond! 28 days they have from when I write to them to confirm my start and finish dates of leave. I hope your employers sort themselves out soon for you

@MrsEG we've been able to see it already! It's fascinating! I'll sit there of an evening and just watch it 😊 I find I get distracted at work too, then remember I should be doing something productive! 😂 and yes, super excited for Bake Off to start!!!

ELW85 · 22/08/2019 08:41

@purplefig @LokiCat - the boob thing is really weird!! Last night they were so sore and for the first time, veiny, but seem to have gone back to normal (but still sore) this morning?!?! Not a clue what’s going on??

MrsEG · 22/08/2019 09:08

@MrsR16 Ahhh that is so lovely. It really is fascinating! I used to sit and stare at my sisters belly like a cat watching a fish bowl! Sometimes I’d see her whole head move from one side to another! Hope everything is going a bit better for you at work now x

Ladies, thank you for the 💩 tips - tried many yesterday and in to the evening and I am delighted to say they worked haha. I feel so light and free this morning!

Fivebyfive2 · 22/08/2019 09:19

@MrsEG, woop! Glad they worked 🙂

Omg I feel fecking awful today, just had to call in sick so must be bad! So last night it felt like maybe I'm getting a cold. Ah well. Then... I wake up about 1am,stomach is killing me aaaaand have been up and down to the loo ever since! It's starting to ease up but I think a day in bed with water and books is required?! Question for you ladies... If I'm still not right this afternoon should I maybe ring the midwife or gp just to be careful? It's mostly the cramps I'm worried about really. I have felt Little Homer move a bit so pretty sure he'll be fine and I just have a bug, but just in case?? Xxx

OP posts:
MrsEG · 22/08/2019 10:01

@Fivebyfive2 Oh you poor thing! If it doesn’t get any better today I’d maybe just give them a buzz just for advice as I remember the days my sister was very sick with her HG the main worry was dehydration - try and drink loads and loads of water today. I hope it passes soon!
