Morning all! How's everyone doing? Any nice weekend plans? The weather is cold down here today too, and I for one don't care: I finally get to crack out my maternity coat!!! Barely have a bump still, but will that stop me? Oh no.

@Bettythecat ooo that dinner sounds delicious - did you have a nice evening? A huge part of hypnobirth practice is learning to relax - if it's something you're interested in, it might really help with your pregnancy anxieties?

@Fivebyfive2 Enjoy your new purchases - maternity dungarees have been one of my best life choices to date.

@BostonFern sorry you're feeling a bit disheartened with that recent news, totally understandable. Great news you've got a baby-safe remedy for your heartburn though - is gaviscon not OK to use?

@LokiCat Ooo 23 weeks will be a lovely time - you'll have a proper bump, but still be in the 'best' second trimester! Grin . Re: your DH's skepticism, that's really common and I think it's often to do with the word 'hypnobirthing', which sounds very airy fairy. The course has a section really early on about the science of birth and how hypnobirthing can tangibly help with the process and to be honest (perhaps I am just naive about birth!) it totally blew my mind and made so much logical sense. DH is fully on board and said he's actually looking forward to birth now he knows what his role will be in it.

@MrsEG the reaction is already starting to go down and think by about a week it should be basically gone - but it's good you know what to expect, I was pretty alarmed until I googled it (which I am trying to avoid doing). Great idea to practice stationing now, what a useful took to have in your kit once the twins are here. Ours knows how to 'stay' but unfortunately, his bed is...the sofa. I feel we've made a rod for our own backs there!! Enjoy your chocolate - hope it gets you through the hectic day and into the weekend as effectively as possible Grin

@ELW85 honestly, you are doing AMAZING to even get to the gym! If you feel totally wiped, please don't feel bad about taking a day to just rest though. Your body is building the beginnings of a human being and that is a hugeeeee undertaking. I don't mean any of that to sound patronising, but I just think so often the message is: keep going, don't 'give in', and sometimes rest is just as important. Also cannot believe you've developed a cake aversion...are you having the healthiest first trimester on record?!?!!?

thumper59 · 06/09/2019 09:35

Morning ladies. Been a couple of hectic days at work so I haven't been on so just catching up now 😊

@MrsR16 Thankyou, I get what you mean about the body changes too! I am at full whale point now and I just feel like an absolute beast I can't make anything look nice anymore 😂 however our bodies are doing amazing things! And they'll be back to normal before long 😊

@MrsEG Chinese was everything I had hoped for 😂 the headaches are the worst aren't they! I have a stinking one today I cant shift again 🤬 bloody hormones

@ELW85 can relate to the breathlessness. For me I think it depends on where he is laid? If his feet are wedged right under my ribs I really struggle! Credit to you for going to the gym, doing much more than me! I walk the dogs and that's it 😬

@purplefig oh I haven't heard of gentle c section what does that entail? I feel pretty chill about it all so far. Hoping I'll stay like that, I am generally quite laid back I just like to know all my options in advance so as long as I'm always aware of what can happen and pro's and con's of that I don't ever really get worked up about much.

@BostonFern hope it's all good news for you today, sounds like your growing a big healthy baby!

I went into little mans nursery today to put some bits away this morning. I can't believe in 8-11 weeks an actual little human will own that room, it's so crazy!

ELW85 · 06/09/2019 09:38

@Bettythecat - you’re totally right, any sort of exercise is a win at the moment!

@purplefig - thank you for saying that and it’s definitely not patronising! It only actually occurred to me the other day that my body is going through a lot (as silly as that sounds). DH is amazing and won’t let me do a thing, but I keep pushing on because I guess I still want to do my share.
That said, there are 💯 days when I just can’t do things because I’m exhausted or feeling nauseous and I’m getting better at not feeling bad about that.
I think if I had a massive bump in front of me, I’d be reminded more as to what I’m going through. Again, I know that sounds stupid!!

ELW85 · 06/09/2019 09:40

Oh and my ‘healthy’ first tri resulted in half a Chinese last night, so I’m definitely not nailing it, haha 😂 although I did have a fruit salad for lunch.
I think the cake aversion is more cold related than anything else!

@thumper59 - how exciting!! I bet it’s all so, so real now 😊 can’t wait to be where you are!

thumper59 · 06/09/2019 09:57

@ELW85 eat what you want I say 😂. Aw it really does, seeing him bouncing around in my belly all the time is just fabulous. I know it's typical and annoying to say (I used to get annoyed when people said it to me!) but it really does fly! It seemed to drag to 20 weeks, then finding out he was a boy the time has just vanished since then! Ask me that if I go over due and I'm sure I'll change my mind and say it's the longest weeks of my life 😂. I felt/ still do feel a lot like you, I like to take charge and do everything at 1000mph but you really do need to rest when you feel like it, you are growing a human after all!

Bettythecat · 06/09/2019 10:07

@purplefig yup I am doing hypnobirthing- we've got a two day course with the "hypnobirthing midwife" soon and I've been listening to the tracks she sent us in preparation. I think I'll buy the online course too that you've done. It's hard to describe- I'm not really anxious as I've had proper anxiety in the past and that manifests for me in physical symptoms like a racing heart, panic etc and I definitely don't feel like that, I guess I am just worrying in a more basic sense- being a negative Nancy and overthinking. I think the mc this year has probably affected me more than I think and I'm naturally a bit of a pessimist anyway. I guess I feel so lucky to be pregnant it's hard to believe everything is going so smoothly especially as honestly it's been so easy so far (sorry!)! Xx

MrsEG · 06/09/2019 10:37

@ELW85 I can’t believe you have cake aversion! Did you have a sweet tooth before? Re: the gym two days a week is plenty - like @purplefig says just do what you can! A colleague told me yesterday that a pregnant woman’s metabolism is matched by that of elite marathon runners!! So even sat around doing nothing, our bodies are still working damn hard!

@Bettythecat Oh that’s great news you’ve been seen and heard the heartbeat! I think midwives have to be a bit strict sometimes otherwise we’d all be in every week just for a check haha! Everything will be fine - as the weeks tick on now I’m sure you’ll feel her more and more!

@purplefig Yep our dog rules the roost a bit too!! And loves the sofa even though he is absolutely not allowed up there, he always finds a way!! I just really hope he adapts; there’s a section on dogs in my twin book and it did say some dogs will just get extremely jealous; he is very protective of me so I just have my fingers crossed!
Enjoy the maternity coat! Where did you get it? My coat doesn’t zip up anymore now 🙈 so I really need to invest!

@thumper59 Not long for you now at all, it’s going so quickly! Then those hormone headaches will be a thing of the past haha!

ELW85 · 06/09/2019 11:22

@MrsEG - to be fair, DH is the sweet one, I’d much prefer a pizza 😂 but it is still strange. I was a coffee addict too and I can’t stomach the smell at the moment.
The marathon runner stat is crazy!! Is that true?! God, I feel awful for not having breakfast now (couldn’t face it).

MrsEG · 06/09/2019 11:31

@ELW85 Yep, I’ve asked her to send me the link and it’s here - fascinating stuff! Makes sense now why I’m hungry from dawn to dusk haha!
qz.com/1635811/pregnancy-pushes-the-body-nearly-as-much-as-endurance-sports/

ELW85 · 06/09/2019 12:17

@MrsEG - I had no idea we were running at twice the metabolic rate! Crazy. Reaches for cake...jokes. Still can’t stomach it 🤢

MrsEG · 06/09/2019 12:47

@ELW85 Crazy isn’t it! No wonder we’re all so tired all the time!! It all makes sense now hahah. If it makes you feel any better all my food aversions left around 13ish weeks - I’ve just had a courgetti and broccoli salad for lunch and enjoyed every bite!

BostonFern · 06/09/2019 13:24

@LokiCat @MrsEG @ELW85 @Bettythecat @thumper59 @purplefig thank you

@LokiCat we are two thirds of the way through the positive birth Company's Digital Pack-really would recommend it, I think my DP was uncertain about it before we started it, but he now says he feels much more prepared for labour.

@purplefig Gaviscon is safe to use in pregnancy, but it wasn't really working very well for me.

After the horror stories at work about how horrible the GTT test drink is it actually wasn't that bad-like a syrupy squash, I just downed it in one to get it done with.

The anti-d injection was just like getting the flu or whooping cough jab, it just took a while for all the admin to be done at the start as our hospital has a special procedure for delivering/checking it because it's a blood product.

BabySquid · 06/09/2019 15:53

@thumper59 I bet you totally don't look a beast, that polka dot with shared with us a while back... I loved it so much I've bought it 🙈 glad your Chinese hit the spot too. I'm excited for you at your prospect of an actual little human owning that room! I can't wait to sort our nursery out.

@Bettythecat I still also like your pessimistic self sometimes. I get times where I think, how will I even know if things are going totally wrong in there, then my mind starts working over and I have to have a word with myself!!

@BostonFern I'm glad you've described that drink, I have mine booked in for after my hols and really wasn't looking forward to it 🤢

Can't wait to finish work today, it's been the slowest week, week before payroll starts up again for the month and I got everything done by last Thursday so just waiting on the new month to officially start for us.

purplefig · 06/09/2019 16:43

@thumper59 have a look on YouTube there's loads of fascinating videos - but essentially instead of removing the baby quickly (which is a pretty abrupt change in environments) they come out slowly, which is supposedly less distressing.

@ELW85 we're so conditioned to feel bad about resting up or not pulling our weight, but honestly we're going through so much right now - if ever there were a time taking it a bit easier was justified, it's now! I totally know what you mean about the lack of bump, somehow it still doesn't feel quite real? I'm 17+4 and I still just look vaguely bloated. I can't wait to 'pop'. Oh also, I totally went off coffee in the 1st tri - but I'm back on it again now (thank god).

@Bettythecat that all makes total sense and I think being self-aware is honestly half the battle. Hopefully the hypnobirthing will help with relaxation in general. I find coming back to the breath whenever I'm spiraling so, so useful.

@MrsEG oh gawwwd that is a worry of mine. My dog is absolute cutie, but he gets so jealous! It's mainly of other dogs, so I'm hopefully he'll see the baby as one of the human pack and be fine. It's a good lesson though: do not spoil the child too much or it too will end up as an (adorable) attention seeker Grin. Might have to try and work on it in the lead-up. Ahh thanks - it's a lined parka from ASOS, but I got it second-hand on eBay for about £10. So snug!

Have a fab weekend all! We've got date night tomorrow night (can't wait, it's been ages since we've done something just the two of us) and then baby sale on Sunday.

MrsEG · 06/09/2019 17:23

@purplefig Yeah I’m hoping that too! Also looked up some tips online and apparently getting all the gear set up, not just nursery but bouncer chairs and pram etc and just having them in the house so dog is aware of them and can be used to them before they are filled with babies! Amazing - literally in 5 mins I’ve gone on eBay, found one, made and offer of £12 and won it!! What a way to end a week haha! Have a great date night!

@BostonFern Glad it all went well today! Is it bad that I think a syrupy drink sounds delicious?? Hope there’s no arm ache after your injection.

Have fab weekends all!!

BostonFern · 06/09/2019 18:29

@BabySquid it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. @MrsEG I'm not sure I'd go as far as saying it was delicious 😂

@BabySquid hope you're homo relaxing now.

@purplefig sounds like you've got a lovely weekend coming up.

@MrsEG Surprising my arm isn't aching where they injected the anti-d, the inside of my elbow is sore though as I've only got one decent vein and it's taken a battering the last few days with all these blood tests so it's a bit bruised now!

My DP surprised me this evening, he came home with a card, flowers and chocolate to say thank you for all the 'sacrifices and all the poorly arms'. I'm a very lucky lady to have someone so kind and thoughtful.

BostonFern · 06/09/2019 18:30

@BabySquid that should say home, not homo! 🤦🏼‍♀️

BabySquid · 06/09/2019 18:45

Oh my god these hormones @BostonFern I've just teared up reading about your DP and his thank you for your body sacrifices card!!! Too cute.

stormtrooperjulian · 06/09/2019 21:18

@BostonFern when do you get your GTT results back? Maybe you just make big babies! That's so sweet of your DH, he sounds lovely

@LokiCat 2 more weeks at work before I start maternity leave, I'm working right up til the end! I feel good though, my SPD is still sore, particularly at night, but all things considered I'm doing really well 😊

@Fivebyfive2 I'd recommend either zip up boots or ones that slide on really really easy... my slippers are ugg boot style and I need DH to put them on my feet for me now 😂 my pelvis hurts too much for me to put enough force behind putting them on myself

@thumper59 I still haven't totally got my head around the fact that our son will be sleeping in the nursery that DH has prepared.... feels unreal!

DH and I are trying to make the most of our last couple of weeks as just us, we went to the cinema today and this weekend we're going to bake brownies, go for a couple of walks and go out for dinner at one of our favourite restaurants. Does anyone else have any nice plans for the weekend?

MrsEG · 07/09/2019 05:44

@BostonFern Haha, must just be me and my love of sugar at the moment!! Oh bless your DP how lovely of him and what a caring thing to do!

@stormtrooperjulian Sounds like you and DH have a lovely few weeks planned! It must all be getting so exciting now - mat leave so soon too! Enjoy the brownies - my absolute fave!!

I fell asleep at 8pm last night so am absolutely wide awake now, I woke at 5! Even the dog won’t get up and hang out with me!! Gonna get some washing on I think and wait for the rest of the house to join me!

ELW85 · 07/09/2019 06:36

Morning all!
Why can’t I ever have a lie in?! Shout out to @MrsEG, haha!

@purplefig - you are so right; massively conditioned to feel guilt if we take it easy. DH is brilliant at reminding me to, so I feel supported.
And it definitely still doesn’t feel real; I have no reason to be but slightly anxious for the scan on Friday. I know, stupid!
How is your bump coming on? And how was date night? I hope you had a wonderful time!

@stormtrooperjulian - what a fantastic idea to dedicate the last few weeks to the two of you! Autumn walks will be wonderful too 😊
DH is at work this weekend and the Great North Run is pretty much outside of our house tomorrow so I’ll be firmly stuck indoors I think. Potentially get my GBBO on and make a cake!

@BostonFern - what a lovely thing for your OH to do! And very much deserved!

BostonFern · 07/09/2019 08:19

@BabySquid aww, sorry it made you tear up-these hormones are something else though, I once started crying for no reason whilst putting the laundry away 😂 it wasn't that bad! 😂

@stormtrooperjulian they've said I'll only hear back from them if it's positive, and it would probably be the middle of next week. I'm hoping I just make bigger babies! Sounds like you've got some lovely things planned for before baby arrives!

@MrsEG I know what you mean about loving sugar, I'm trying to control myself but I just seem to be drawn to anything sweet! My DP is lovely, baby is going to be very lucky to have him as a dad.

@ELW85 morning! Getting your GBBO on sounds good!

Fivebyfive2 · 07/09/2019 09:30

Hi all!

@Bostonfern, your dh is so lovely! Fingers crossed your test is negative and you're just having a big baby! Xxx

@stormtrooperjulian, I can't believe you finish in 2 weeks! Sounds like you've got a good plan though, making the most of the down time 🙂

@MrsEG, helloooo! I did laugh at your post about the dog wanting to sleep in while you were up early!

Got my best friend visiting from Sheffield today 🙂 She's bringing some baby stuff up, including a bedside crib that I'm seriously hoping will fit by our bed... It's a small room and the only one I've found online that I'm 100% sure will fit is like £150!! We're also going for cake and a good catch up. Really looking forward to seeing her 😀

MrsEG · 07/09/2019 12:27

@ELW85 Ha, I don’t even remember my last lie in! Motherhood prep, perhaps??

@BostonFern I am exactly the same, I could gladly forego a meal some days just to skip straight to dessert! My sweet tooth has gone crazy since getting pregnant. Fingers crossed you just make big babies! My sister had an 8lb 15oz baby, her GTT test was all negative - some babies are just bigguns!!

@Fivebyfive2 Ha my dog is so lazy in the mornings! I almost fall over him going to the loo! Fingers crossed the crib fits! I’m trying to find a Chicco next to me at the mo as apparently both twins will fit in one of those for a few months so a total space saver! Have a fab day!

Fivebyfive2 · 07/09/2019 19:08

Hi all! Saw my friend, she brought over some baby stuff but not the crib as she doesn't know where it is 😂 She's gonna bring it next time hopefully! Had a l lovely afternoon catching up though 🙂

Ladies, I'm currently on a mission! So we have a blue chest of draws that I got years ago, from IKEA kids section, just because I liked it! They don't do the range anymore, but my friend suggested trying ebay/gumtree etc to see if I can get the matching wardrobe... Why didn't I think of that?! I've found one not too far away, bidding ends tomorrow and it's only at £1.99?!! So I've messaged about sizes etc to see if it would fit in my dad's car.

Anyone watching Strictly?? I usually dip in and out and watch with my mum... Dh can't stand it, especially as it comes around the same time as Bake Off 😂
