@purplefig ahh thanks lovely, I really appreciate that 💕 it was really amazing seeing the baby, especially as I had convinced myself that something was wrong so wasn't expecting to see anything at all!
I'm liking your rule - anything definitely goes right now

@ELW85 that cake looks epic!! Wow! Happy birthday to your mum, i'm sure she'll love that cake!
Thanks again lovely 😊❤️

@MrsEG it's great to know that at least by the second trimester I can go back to eating normally, cos carbs for 9 months will definitely not go down well! 😂

@MrsR16 thank you so much :) just happy I can calm down now. Haha yeah I just laughed and said no worries? as wasn't sure how to respond to a comment like that 😂
A glamping pod trip sounds great. The pods are so cute!
Sorry to hear you had a down day yesterday. I think your body changes so much over the 9 months it can be quite a shock and a bit difficult to get used to sometimes. Glad you're feeling better today Smile

MrsEG · 05/09/2019 07:13

@thumper59 Hope you enjoyed that Chinese!!

@MrsR16 Ha I love it! What pampered pooches we all have!! Yep he also got a present - he didn’t seem overly fussed by it and just wanted to snooze! He seems like an ‘older’ dog recently now he’s 4, it makes me sad! I miss the puppy days!!

@LokiCat Oh it definitely goes back to normal, from about 13-ish weeks I’ve been eating my old diet again - I’m still much, much hungrier than I used to be but snacking on fruit and little Babybels, things like that. Rather than entire bags of Tangfastics 🙈

Had a rough night, I’ve started getting preggo nosebleeds and they are no fun. Head feels awful now and I have such a busy day at work ahead!

LokiCat · 05/09/2019 07:42

Morning all! 😊

@MrsEG oh no, sorry to hear about your nosebleeds. Is that a common thing during pregnancy? I hadn't even realised! Were you still able to go to the pregnancy yoga class last night? I hope you feel better today.

Another work from home day for me today. I need to take my car in to get the air conditioning finally sorted. Had to deal with driving in the heat the last few weeks without it and it's been horrible!!
DH and I booked our holiday last night to New York over Christmas Grin I'm so excited, I love NYC and I've heard it's amazing over Christmas!!

Have a brilliant day all xx

MrsEG · 05/09/2019 07:46

@LokiCat I didn’t realise it was common but apparently it is, something to do with your nose swelling a bit and the increased blood volume! I did make it to yoga - it was a new class I haven’t tried before near work and I absolutely loved it so signing up with her for 2 sessions a week!
Oh wow New York, I love it there - I’ve only ever been twice for a holiday (both times in summer!) but used to have clients there so visited a lot - Christmas is honestly magic there but be warned it is sooooo cold!! Get ear muffs!

Bettythecat · 05/09/2019 09:19

Hi lovelies sorry to post without replying to all your messages having been off MN for a few days but I have a question that I know only you knowledgeable lot will be able to answer... I'm 18+3 today and started to feel tiny movements about a week ago- popping, pulling and tapping. Wasn't particular regular or very often but definitely there. Anyway I don't think I've felt anything at all yesterday or perhaps even the day before. I've done all the things like lying on my side; making noise etc. Anyway, my question is whether it's normal to have days in between feeling nothing before you have started to feel "proper" movements like kicks etc or whether I should be concerned?

BabySquid · 05/09/2019 09:25

@MrsEG that sucks about the nose bleeds. I've been getting like the start of them when I blow my nose but I assumed that was from over blown from my cold!!
@LokiCat 💯 jealous!! I'd love to do NY especially over xmas.

It's definitely looking like the start of autumn here in West Yorkshire, 8' in the car this morning and bright sunshine... nearly time for the big coat to come out (if it still fits!) looked in the long mirror this morning and by heck this bump is getting bigger!

BabySquid · 05/09/2019 09:26

@Bettythecat I heard it's quite normal not to feel regular movements until you feel proper kicks. Coz they're such light movements still that you're prob just not feeling them.

ELW85 · 05/09/2019 09:37

Morning all!

The cake was great (allegedly; haven’t had any yet!)

@thumper59 - yasss! Chinese all the way! I hope it was exactly what you needed.

@MrsEG - DH is right, the gym will still be there! I’m going to struggle tonight as I’ve got an awful cold too.
There’s a lady on the March babies thread who is getting regular nosebleeds too. I’d never heard of it until now!

@LokiCat - NYC at Christmas is amazing!! I know it’ll be cold but a carriage ride through Central Park in the winter is lovely 😊

MrsEG · 05/09/2019 09:38

@Bettythecat It’s totally normal not to feel regular movement until I think 24 weeks, I think @Fivebyfive2 asked the same Q a while ago and I looked it up! Baby is still too small for you to feel them really regularly yet so it’s nothing to worry about, they could just be changing position a bit!

@BabySquid I think my cold recently has triggered them! But (and this is so TMI) it’s now at the point if I blow my nose the tissue just fills with blood; takes about 30 mins for me to stem it. Feels like I’ve been punched afterwards!
Yep same here in Manchester - really chilly and crisp today; looking at maternity coats on EBay as we speak!!

MrsEG · 05/09/2019 10:11

@ELW85 I can’t believe you didn’t have any of that cake! I’d have been straight in there!! Yep - he’s already made me feel better too telling me he’ll do me a bespoke post-natal training plan and he’ll watch the babies at the gym while I train! In his words ‘I’ll turn you in to Jessica Ennis’ haha! Are you still finding training okay? I found myself so breathless in the first trimester! Even my walks were tough!

Ladies quick Q on the fly jab - I always get it and this is the time of year I’d do it too - is there a certain amount of weeks I need to be or can I just go and get it done?

MrsEG · 05/09/2019 10:12

*flu jab, not fly... (fat fingers)

stormtrooperjulian · 05/09/2019 10:17

@BabySquid your trip sounds amazing! I've always wanted to visit Australia

@LokiCat great news about your scan! I lived on carbs in the first trimester, I requested potatoes for dinner pretty much every day. New York at Xmas will be incredible, I'd love to do that

@ELW85 that cake looks delicious! I want cake now

@MrsEG I was getting a lot of nosebleeds for a few months, they stopped at some point in the second trimester though. So much blood it was like a tap had been turned on, all I could do was lean over a sink until it stopped. Got one in the car, by the time I found somewhere to pull over my clothes were ruined, luckily I was only going to the gym not to work or somewhere nice!

@Bettythecat I was told not to expect regular movement til around 24 weeks, before that the baby is so small it's easy for them to move into a different position where you cant feel them any more. I had plenty of days after I started feeling movements where I felt nothing at all.

BabySquid · 05/09/2019 10:20

@MrsEG at my 16 weeks apt I was told to get booked in for that and the whooping cough one after my 20 week scan, but I'd just ask your GP to make sure.

ELW85 · 05/09/2019 12:58

@MrsEG @stormtrooperjulian - I’ve got a wedge of that beauty in the fridge! Feeling very restrained as I’ve just had a fruit salad for lunch 😂

I’ve been feeling really breathless too, so with training I’ve been taking it at about half the pace as normal. Still burning about 300 cal per session, so I’m hoping to keep some sort of progress, but I’m definitely not as strong/fit as I was. All worth it though!!

MrsR16 · 05/09/2019 13:26

@LokiCat I'm determined to have many more good days than bad! Although we're all allowed off days occasionally 😊 omg New York?!? Amazing! I've always wanted to go!

@MrsEG dogs are so much part of the family! I don't think mine has twigged that his life is going to completely change in less than 15 weeks' (!!!!) time 😂 bless him... I hope the nosebleeds aren't too dramatic and you're spot on, it's the extra everything that we have at the moment which can cause them. As far as the flu jab goes, I think you can have it whenever... I'm having mine on either the 21st September or 5th October, as that's when my local clinics are running.

@Bettythecat yep, absolutely normal! My midwife advised that up until 24 weeks, they don't establish a pattern of movement. However, if you're concerned, speak to your midwife 😊

@ELW85 you're so good still training! I have done nothing since I found out, aside from walk the dog! 😂😂

MrsEG · 05/09/2019 15:39

@stormtrooperjulian Oh my god that sounds awful!! Luckily for me it tends to happen first thing - I bet it looked like an absolute bloodbath!!

@BabySquid Thanks, I’ve got the midwife next week so I’ll get it booked in after I’ve seen her :)

@ELW85 Cake is one of those things I can’t say no to, I do a lot of baking it’s my absolute weakness! Especially if it’s a brownie!

@MrsR16 Gosh I know, our poor dogs - they have no idea what’s coming!! I keep thinking on the plus side I’ll be out walking all the time with the pram so he’ll be happy with all the extra exercise!! One of my friends is a sling librarian and she contacted me yesterday saying you can totally sling twins too so she’s gonna give me all her top tips - then I’ll be on dog walks a plenty!!

So FYI at yoga last night they kept going on about doing your pelvic floor exercises every day. I never do them!! And she said I especially should haha; so anyway some of the girls recommended an NHS app called ‘Squeezy’ - I’ve just downloaded it and will let you know how I get on!!

BabySquid · 05/09/2019 16:04

@MrsEG being an ex PT I know all about pelvic floor exercises and the benefits for pregnancy... have I done any... have I heck!! So most women... do they heck! I'm pretty sure you'll be fine.
We've decided we're off to a mamas and papas outlet in Huddersfield on Sunday, taking the in laws coz they've said they'll buy our furniture, so we're getting an idea of prices. I'm excited about it.

purplefig · 05/09/2019 16:53

Hi all - how's everyone doing today? I was up at 3.30am in the night for a wee (as per) and it took me ages to get back to sleep - absolutely shattered now. Perhaps it's my bodies way of hardening me up for motherhood Grin.

On another note - I got the whopping cough jab at my 16 week appointment earlier this week and the site where it was injected is red/itchy/hot/swollen. Just wanted to reassure anyone about to get it that apparently that's totally normal (it's because the jab also covers you for tetanus and if you're already up-to-date with that it can cause that kind of reaction).

@ELW85 Oh my goodness that cake looks divine! I hope you can manage a slice later Grin. How're you finding the gym? I'm in awe of you - I barely moved off the sofa in the first trimester!

@MrsEG what sound does a womb even make?! Gahh!!! What a great idea to do some training with the dog before the baby arrives - hadn't even crossed my disorganised mind. What do you mean by stationing? Just read about your nose bleeds - what a pain. The symptoms just don't stop do they?! I am up every single night with either a wee/headache. Oh and speaking of pelvic floor exercises - I am reminded every Friday at yoga and then promptly forget Blush. Let me know if you think the Squeezy app is worth it? Glad you enjoyed your yoga class - two a week is a fab amount. I'm going to try Pilates next...mainly because after class there is an informal chat with cake session......

@thumper59 that sounds like a good attitude to have! I'm definitely going to write up a list of birth preferences - but I'll cover all outcomes. So even if I end up needing a c-section, so long as it's not an emergency, I'll still have some preferences. Have you heard about gentle/natural c-sections? I'd never heard of them until the other day - so cool!

@LokiCat you're very welcome. Your holiday sounds incredible - I bet Manhattan is absolutely magical over the festive period. How many weeks will you be by then? I've only been in springtime, but it's like nowhere else on earth.

@Bettythecat I would try and not worry - they don't settle into any regular pattern of movement for ages yet.

@BabySquid ooo that sounds like a very fun Sunday! What sort of bits are you after? We're visiting a nearly new baby/kids sale...50p entry, it all sounds very retro/car boot ish...I'm also very excited!

Have a lovely evening everyone! Anyone up to anything exciting? We're finishing up our hypnobirthing videos tonight (we've whizzed through them) and I'm genuinely sad that little evening ritual will be over.

Bettythecat · 05/09/2019 18:17

Hi ladies- thanks for all your responses. Really helps to have all your advice. I spoke to the midwife and their first message was to say that I should go to triage if I was concerned 🙄 but then when I asked them to tell me if it was normal or not they then said it was normal at this stage and I shouldn't worry unless I have bleeding or pain. Trying not to worry but it's so hard isn't it- being a first time mum I seem to be able to find endless things to worry about!

@purplefig I've got some friends round for dinner tonight- made some nice Turkish kofta and a cheesecake! Your hypnobirthing sounds good- now you just need to practice!

@MrsEG I'm exactly the same with cake! Powerless to resist! You sound like your really getting into the self care with your yoga and training- you will be one fit and calm mummy when the babies are here! I try and do my pelvic floor exercises when I think about it but probably don't do them often enough. Apparently they make a big difference to birth and recovery.

@BabySquid it's getting a bit more autumnal in London too- I'm loving it. Far more of an Autumn girl than a Summer girl. I just love the cosines, food and jeans and boots etc. Much better then sweating all over the city and on the tube!

Fivebyfive2 · 05/09/2019 21:41

Hi all!! So sorry I've been absent, work is insane and I tried doing a really long post replying to loads of people yesterday and it was lost before it could post... Aaaaaagh!!

@Bettythecat, I did, as @MrsEG said, have the exact same query on movement and actually I think it was at a similar point to yours! They come and go even now (I'm 22 weeks today!) although they're just starting to get a bit more regular! As they say, it's usually 24 weeks that they say to monitor it a bit more.

Lovely to see how everyone is doing!

@lokicat, so glad all is OK xxx And NYC at Christmas will be fantastic, I'm a bit jealous!!

@MrsEG, hope you're feeling OK tonight? I love that your dog has a birthday! Xx

I've had a bit of a spend up on New Look and H&M online 😀 Got 2 dresses, 2 pairs of jeans aaaaand... Maternity Dungarees!!! So excited!! Hopefully they all fit... I also need some slip on/zip up boots for winter, I can't be doing with getting on the floor and lacing up boots when I'm massive 😂

Friday tomorrow ladies!! Anyone got weekend plans?? Xxx

OP posts:
BostonFern · 06/09/2019 07:04

Hi ladies,
Sorry for being quiet for the last few days.

@thumper59 the return of the tiredness in the third trimester seems to have surprised me after having a pretty easy second trimester! My heart condition doesn't seem massively keen on the extra strain on my body now either. Glad to hear everything's going well for you and your waterbirth is looking likely, I hear the birthing pools provide amazing relief.

@purplefig glad to hear the headaches weren't anything to worry about.

@TrashKitten10 Sounds like last week was lovely! I also had the bump comments after the six week break-all I know is that I feel much bigger! 😂

@BabySquid How exciting to have started to feel movement!

@LokiCat So pleased to hear the scan went well, what exciting holiday plans too!

@ELW85 That cake looks delicious!

@Bettythecat I don't think I felt regular movements until 21 weeks, before that it was the occasional flutter/pop/kick.

@MrsEG My midwife recommended waiting until October for the flu jab as that's when they'll get the new batch in to cover the new strains. Not sure if there's a recommended number of weeks for the flu jab, but I know whooping cough is from 16 weeks.

I had my 28 week scan and appointment on Tuesday. Baby looks nice and healthy, but is on the 90th percentile for his belly (and has long legs), they've estimated his weight at 2lb 14oz already, again putting him on the 90th percentile so I'm off for a GTT today to check I haven't developed gestational diabetes. I've also got to have the anti-d injection today, so it's a whole day on one of the wards being prodded with needles. I've got to check in with cardiology again as my heart condition is starting to become more evident, might have to go back onto some kind of medication it seems, which I'm a bit disheartened about as there's a small risk it could slow down baby's growth and I've tried so hard to control the condition with lifestyle.....but if it's a case of maintaining an adequate blood supply then it'll have to be done. The consultant also prescribed a baby safe medication for my heartburn, it's worked so well, no heartburn (and the reflux was getting so bad it was making my ears ache, so that's been a huge relief!).
I asked about the rib and back pain, apparently it's because baby is so big and long already! He seems to have nestled himself in quite nicely under that one spot.
Hope everyone has a lovely Friday.

LokiCat · 06/09/2019 07:19

Morning all! 😊 so happy it's Friday!! It's also absolutely freezing over here. The trains have got the heating on thankfully.

@MrsEG oh how crazy. I hope the nose bleeds aren't a symptom which occur throughout pregnancy.
Oh brilliant, glad it was a good class! The one local to us has yoga, Pilates and fitness classes throughout pregnancy, then with baby and also baby only classes. Think I'll definitely be signing up once I'm a little further along.
Oh I know! We went in April a few years ago and it was absolutely freezing, so I'll be wrapping up very warm as I imagine we'll be walking a lot.
I couldn't stop thinking about spaghetti with cheese that you mentioned a few days ago, so I had a cheese pasta dinner last night 😂
I was told that I'd be getting the flu jab along with the whooping cough one at the appointment after my 20 week scan (if they have enough - supposedly they always run out).

@BabySquid 10 degrees in Surrey this morning. I was just thinking that I need to get my coat out over the weekend.
How exciting that your bump is getting bigger!

@ELW85 Hope you finally managed to have a piece of the cake. Don't know how you were able to resist!
Ahh that sounds magical! I love Central Park. I've heard they have a great ice rink, but may have to give it a miss as I'm not the most graceful even without a bump 😂

@stormtrooperjulian thank you so much! 😊 I hope so. I'd love it if it snowed as well (but not so much that it affects our flights!).
How have you been feeling? Does your maternity leave start soon?

@MrsR16 of course, we're only human. Everyone's allowed emotional days. I like your positive determination though. 😊
Thank you, I'm so excited!!

@purplefig yeah, I've heard all the decorations, lights and atmosphere are supposed to be very magical :) I should be about by 23 weeks by then! So hopefully still okay to walk around and enjoy myself. I've also only been once during Spring and fell in love with the city.
The hypnobirthing videos are sounding great. Glad you are enjoying them and that your DH has been getting involved and watching them with you! I mentioned them to DH once, but he seemed a bit skeptic about the hypnobirthing course, which I expected!
DH was working a late shift, so I had a pretty chill evening on the sofa. Hope you had a good one 😊

@Bettythecat that dinner sounds amazing! I love cheesecake hope you had a great night with friends.

@Fivebyfive2 thank you so much lovely 😊
Ooh nice maternity shopping! I've seen some nice Chelsea zip up ankle boots on the M&S website. They've got them in a few colours.
A weekend with family for me! Seeing the in-laws tomorrow and my family for Sunday lunch. Have you got much on?

@BostonFern thank you 😊
Glad the baby is looking nice and healthy at the scan. Good luck for the GTT today. My midwife mentioned that I'll have one at my 16 week appointment due to my ethnic background, even though no one in my family has diabetes.
Sorry to hear it's a day of needles, but I hope everything comes back with positive results 🤞🏽

Hope you all have a brilliant Friday xx

MrsEG · 06/09/2019 08:02

@BabySquid ha I know! DH is a PT and he keeps telling me to do them too; they’re hardly a massive undertaking but I just forget!! My sister keeps banging on about them too though - she did none and is now still wearing a Tena lady every day 15 months post-partum... saying all of that - I downloaded the app and then did nothing haha! I’ll try and look at it today and do some at my desk!
Furniture shopping sounds so much fun! We’re gonna clear the room this weekend to at least make a bit of a start. Let us all know what you get!

@purplefig Oh I’ve heard all kinds of horror stories about the whooping cough jab, readying myself for it next week! Stationing is something we learnt at puppy classes and then never continued, to our massive detriment now!! But it’s essentially training him to go to his mat or bed and stay there. It’ll be a godsend when babies are here! He’s making very small progress every day... baby steps! I’ve downloaded the app (and that’s all..) so I’ll let you know how I get on with it! Yeah really loved the yoga - no free cake at mine though. Perhaps I’ll take my own!!
Hope you had a better night - I don’t get up to pee much anymore but always wake a few times regardless, it’s a pain. Each morning I feel hungover!

@Bettythecat Yep I’ve heard the same about doing pelvic floor exercise so I’m kinda gonna force myself now! How are you feeling today, have any flutters come back? Hope the midwife was helpful!

@Fivebyfive2 I’m feeling much better, no nosebleed this morning hurray! Absolutely nothing planned this weekend other than yoga and clearing the house of junk! Enjoy your maternity purchases!!

@BostonFern Hope the GTT goes well, sounds like you’ve got a hell of a day in store!! I hope it all goes smoothly for you.

@LokiCat Hah, cheesy pasta is the best!! It’ll always remind me of the first trimester so fondly - that and salt and vinegar discos!! Glad you enjoyed!

Happy Friday all - I’ve got a totally manic work day today so I’ll just be so glad to get to 5pm; taking bags of chocolate in to keep the team peeled up!! We always have a crazy end of year so it’s picking up steam at the moment. It’ll be Christmas before I know it...!

ELW85 · 06/09/2019 08:54

Morning all! Happy Friday!

Sorry for the late reply; I’m absolutely wiped out with this cold. Definitely not helping the breathlessness!

Unbelievably, the cake is still in the fridge. As if I’ve got a cake aversion?!? It’s going to get gifted to DH today if I can’t face it. Sadly.

@purplefig - the gym is going ok actually; I’m definitely not as fit as I was as I’m not pushing myself, but I try to get there twice a week to keep ticking over.
I also feel like if DH didn’t motivate me, I wouldn’t go some days as the nausea/tiredness would win! I’m basically taking it a day at a time, but fair play to any lady doing anything in pregnancy. It’s SO HARD!! How are you feeling? All good I hope!

@LokiCat - haha I wouldn’t skate either, and especially now! You’ll have such an amazing time though, very happy for you!
How are you getting on?

@BostonFern - sorry to hear you’re going through it a bit with your heart condition. Great that the little one is going strong though 😊

@Fivebyfive2 - Topshop have a sale on some maternity jeans at the moment. May it may not have purchased some (£15 from £40 is a bargain!)

I’m being totally un-Northern today and have put my ‘big’ coat on. 18 year old me would be horrified, haha!
Love the autumn in the air though. I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Bettythecat · 06/09/2019 09:17

@MrsEG we spoke to triage yesterday and they told us to go into the midwife led ward this morning. Luckily the hospital is less than 10 minutes walk from our house so we got there at 8:15 and were out by 8:45! They did my urine, blood pressure and temp and then listened to the heartbeat on the Doppler. Heartbeat was totally fine and she said she could hear baby moving too by changes in the heartbeat. The midwife I had was a bit strict and said not to count until 24 weeks as baby can move around or go back into your pelvis (as you all said!). She said there was also nothing they could do before 24 weeks which wasn't particularly reassuring!! Anyway- all's well that ends well and I'm glad we went as everything seems to be totally fine. I need to start believing it's all going to be ok! On a different subject last night was great- told my friends I was pregnant and that we were having a girl. Ate the cheesecake and also ate a twirl before they arrived whilst lying down to try to get baby girl to move so definitely had an indulgent night!! No luck on the moving either!

I'm working from home today and thank god! I've slept so badly this week so am completely exhausted. We go on holiday tomorrow so I'll try and pack and do my tan, shave my legs etc today too then hopefully an early night.

@ELW85 you sound like me- I'm trying to go to the gym a bit to keep things ticking but as you say not pushing myself or going very often so I know my fitness and strength is not great. I think we should be proud of ourselves for going at all though!

@BostonFern wow sounds like you're having a big baby! Lovely that they are growing so well though even if a bit too well! Hope your day of appointments isn't too bad. I've never been poked and prodded or pee'd in so many pots! I'm always surprised to know I seem to be able to wee on demand! 😂
