@cupcakesandglitter absolutely lovely, you'll get to a point where you realise you have to take priority, not work, not anything else, just you and baby 😊 trust me, you'll fly by and be at 24 weeks before you know it! Xx

thumper59 · 02/09/2019 15:05

Good afternoon ladies! I've missed loads over the weekend. I was on a hen do all day Saturday then was doing bits and bobs jobs with OH yesterday, and a bbq last night 😊. Back to work today though as boring as ever!! I have my baby shower on Saturday I can't wait, my mum has planned it all and I've been banned from her house for the last week so I'm super excited to see what she's done to the place 😬😬.

Hope you are all well! I've got aches and pains and a headache all the bloody time! But no rest for the wicked because this is also our busiest time at work so hoping to get all my ducks in a row before I go on maternity mid October!

purplefig · 02/09/2019 19:51

Nice day all? Mine was pretty chilled for a back-to-work-after-hols Monday. Just had dinner and back from a dog walk, now off to make a cup of tea and settle down with DH to a few hypnobirthing videos.

Speaking of which, I'm finding it all so fascinating - there's a whole section on science and loads of it is news to me! DH has read 'pregnancy for men' and was very smug when I didn't know babies heads had skull plates and their head gets smaller at the point of birth.

@MrsEG oh that makes sense about being able to typically feel twins a bit earlier as there's less room. I've got my 16 week midwife appointment tomorrow, I'm trying not to get my hopes up that they'll listen to the heartbeat as I've heard it really varies from place to place. So glad you've booked a scan to find out - what an exciting weekend you've got coming up Grin. Finding out the sex of twins is so much more exciting imho, what combination will you get?!

@LokiCat a lazy weekend sounds like utter perfection. And if you can't do it when you're pregnant, when can you?! I've got similar plans for next weekend - and there's a nearly new baby sale on locally that I'd like to take a look at. I'm 17 weeks and as of yet have bought practically nothing.

@ELW85 I've definitely had light cramping and the odd sharp pain, I think it's all pretty normal. How many weeks are you now? I started to feel considerably better around the 12 week mark.

@thumper59 how are you coping with headaches? I'm getting loads at the mo and they're starting to interfere with work!

MrsEG · 02/09/2019 20:08

@cupcakesandglitter Take the time off, it’s so important! Make sure you rest up now; remember from 4 weeks to 12 that baby grows from a poppy seed sized embryo to a fully fledged baba - it takes a hell of a lot out of your body!

@thumper59 Ahh enjoy your baby shower this weekend! I bet your mum has done a fabulous job!

@purplefig I can’t wait now it’s booked! It’s next weekend though, not this one. I will be 16 weeks this weekend but thought I’d give them another week to grow so we can be sure! Ah that sounds fab - my DH is swotting up too! So nice when they get all involved! Enjoy your 16 week appt; I’m sure it’ll be fab no matter what! When I spoke to my community MW she sounded utterly lovely.

I am feeling really huge today; pic for reference. Can’t believe this is 15+1! My left hip really hurts now as does my lower back; get pains in my bump all the time too with the growth. Have come close to calling the MW about it today but then realised I’d be calling her about something I know is completely normal!! I have yoga tomorrow and weds so hopefully that will help (also this is the room planned for babies - you can see I’ve gotten super organised so far by just dumping a dozen bags and boxes on the bed...)

thumper59 · 02/09/2019 20:29

@purplefig not great to be honest!! I keep just trying to drink loads and loads of water to see if that helps x

@MrsEG your bump is just wonderful 💕

MrsEG · 02/09/2019 20:35

Ahh I keep missing loads of posts on the app at the mo! Might have to go old school and start using my browser again!

@LokiCat Lazy weekend sounds ideal - that's on the cards for me this week! Hope you enjoyed it!

@MrsR16 Yeah the app is very American! I like all the info though and I particularly like it mentions twins with every weekly update :) Makes me feel more included haha! Hope you are doing good

@ELW85 I get ligament pain all the time, most days to be honest. Sometimes it's really sore! You'll get used to it!

@thumper59 Thanks lovely, I feel more like a huge lump than anything else at the mo haha, getting some pregnancy wins in though - got pushed to the front of a toilet queue on Saturday!!

BostonFern · 02/09/2019 21:40

@MrsR16 sounds like you've had a fabulous weekend.

@purplefig so pleased to hear you're feeling more relaxed.

@MrsEG an osteopath sounds like it could be a good idea, thanks -currently cocooned by pillows and sporting a heat pack again! Sounds like you've had an amazing weekend, how exciting to have the scan booked too! Your bump is looking lovely, I'm sorry you've been in pain though. If something's worrying you call the midwife, I've done it a couple of times and they've been really reassuring and offered practical advice to help with pain I had in my abdomen.

@stormtrooperjulian Physio also sounds like an idea, I'll ask my consultant tomorrow, thanks.

Sending you gentle hugs @cupcakesandglitter X

@LokiCat First day back wasn't too bad thanks, just trying to let things wash over me so I don't get stressed! Glad you had a lazy weekend, we all need them sometimes!

@ELW85 I started getting pulling sensation/pain as I went into the second trimester, think everything just has to start stretching more!

@thumper59 How exciting that your baby shower is coming up so soon!

ELW85 · 02/09/2019 21:44

Evening all!
I hope everyone’s Monday was bearable!

@purplefig - welcome back 😊 pleased you had a lovely time off! I’ve just read up on hypnobirthing and I’m definitely going to listen to some podcasts etc on it!
Everything being equal/good, I’ll be 11 weeks tomorrow 💕 it’s flying over and I can’t wait for the 12 week scan (although it’s Fri 13th!)
I read on the Pregnancy + app that the baby is going through a growth spurt at the moment, so it all makes sense!
How are you feeling?

@thumper59 - how exciting that your baby shower is this weekend! I hope you have a lovely time!

@MrsEG - what a gorgeous bump! I’m definitely putting my money on one of each 😊 I bet the scan can’t come quick enough!

ELW85 · 02/09/2019 21:46

@BostonFern - I think you’re right and it’s just a growth spurt; just such a weird feeling as it wasn’t my hips, just directly in the middle. To be expected, I guess 😊

MrsR16 · 02/09/2019 22:17

@MrsEG yeah I'm doing ok today 😊 big boss isn't in this week so everyone's a bit more relaxed which is lovely! I have my next midwife appt tomorrow morning, so may enjoy a little lie in too. Your bump is just spectacular! You're looking so well on it xx

@BostonFern it really was lovely!

@ELW85 yeah, the growth spurts are easy to tell - baby takes everything and you get whatever's left! 😂 I can't believe you're nearly 12 weeks already!

@thumper59 ooh, baby shower!! I bet you're really looking forward to that 😊

ELW85 · 03/09/2019 06:31

@MrsR16 - it’s crazy how time flies!! I’m going to attempt the gym later, which I’m sure won’t go that well if we are in a growth spurt place 😂
Enjoy your appointment and lie in today!

MrsEG · 03/09/2019 07:06

@BostonFern I may actually give the midwife a quick call today; I’m sure I even sometimes confuse constipation pain with my bump 🙈 but I do get some sharp pain in my abdomen so just to even hear it’s normal would be reassuring! I’m also cocooned inside a pregnancy pillow these days too; they’re bloody fantastic! I hope you get some joy either with an osteopath or a physio; I can’t imagine it’s nice being in that much pain at work!

@ELW85 All the guesses we have are either one of each or two boys - it’ll be a massive shock for all if it’s two girls! I get pains all over; some in my sides and pelvis but also at the front and bottom of my bump. My twin book and some cautious googling (I hate googling things though!) tell me it’s all part and parcel and things stretch and move around!

@MrsR16 Oh I’m glad work is more relaxed for you this week! Enjoy the midwife appt today :)

Happy Tuesday all!

thumper59 · 03/09/2019 08:06

@MrsEG haha I love getting put to the front of a toilet que 😂😂. Ring midwife if it'll reassure you they are always happy to put our minds at ease 😊 it's very common though to have stretching all over the bump xx

@BostonFern argh I know I can't wait! It's just flying- especially September as we are busy every weekend until start of Oct now so I think it'll fly. Sorry your in some pain. I hope they get sort that for you x

@ELW85 Thankyou! I can't wait to see- I can't believe your 11 weeks! That's gone so fast. Once your 12 week scan is here it goes even quicker xx

@MrsR16 Thankyou. Hope you can get a nice little lie in this morning xx

purplefig · 03/09/2019 09:18

How's everyone doing? I got another headache yesterday, went to bed and then was up at 3am with it. Finally took a paracetamol and went back to bed...woke up and it's still here! I've got my midwife appointment today, so I'm going to ask her about it - but has anyone here been dealing with more headaches in pregnancy? Any tips?!

@MrsEG you look INCREDIBLE - your bump is just gorgeous!! And is that another New Look top I spot? I think I have the same but in a pale blue/green colour. So cosy. I really hope the yoga helps with your hip and back pain, it's so rotten isn't it? Good idea to give the babies another week to grow and get ready to do some flashing Grin. Our 20 week scan is in 20 weeks and I'm beside myself with excitement...! I've had to delete the app as I was finding it so addictive - it does feel old school logging in on the browser.

@thumper59 I am doing that...it's not really making any difference, just making me wee constantly Grin.

@ELW85 Thank you! I'd really recommend the Evidence Based Birth Podcast (for anything birth related really) but she has a great episode on hypnobirthing. As for a course - I can't really justify £300 at this stage for an in-person course, but this digital pack was only £40 and it's so good - plus I think she puts it on sale fairly regularly. I genuinely look forward to sitting down with a cup of tea and watching a few videos with DH every night, even he commented that it makes it feel more real. (Plus it has so much good info on how to be a proactive, effective birth partner...worth it alone for that!). Ahhh you'll be saying goodbye to the first trimester before you know it! How're you feeling today? Only 10 days until the scan! I'm feeling pretty good thanks, just getting quite a lot of headaches which is tricky as I'm self-employed and work at a computer!

Jessikka · 03/09/2019 09:38

Morning Ladies!

Can I ask a quick question. Early reassurance scans....whether you are for or against them, I have one booked on Sunday when I am 8 weeks. (Supposedly)

Am I meant to drink beforehand or is that when the baby gets bigger?

Havent had an email etc but have heard about needing full bladders

Thanks!

thumper59 · 03/09/2019 09:44

@purplefig yeah same to be honest. I don't really like taking paracetamol though. I wondered if it was the muggy weather but it's much cooler here today and I still have the bloody headache 😫

How are the third trimesterers feeling? I am 31+1 today, and for the last week or so I just keep going through stages of feeling generally naff. I can't really pin point why. My body just feels zapped, a few aches and pains and dizziness/ light headedness coming and going along with the acid reflux which I think is what keeps making me feel pretty sick. Have I just got to accept I can't keep running around like a blue arse fly? I know baby grows loads over the next few weeks so I wondered if it was just baby zapping all my energy and strength, I just feel frustrated when I can't do all the things I used to do at the speed I used to be able to do them! Midwife took my blood at my last app and I haven't heard anything so assume iron levels are ok

MrsEG · 03/09/2019 10:26

@thumper59 Thanks lovely! I’ve managed to stay really relaxed so far so trying to maintain that! Like you say it’s so normal and I have to remember I’m stretching at double speed haha! Hope September flies by for you now and you’re off on mat leave before you know it!
I can’t speak from experience by my sister was wiped in her 3rd tri - all baby is doing is growing; she herself was gaining 1-2lbs a week towards the end! It’s a hell of an undertaking for your body so just tune in to it and if it’s time to slow down a bit, so be it :) Sis heartburn was so bad towards the end also she had Gaviscon in her purse and wouldn’t leave home without it!! I remember her once picking a solitary pickle off a sandwich, just like ‘It won’t be worth the pain!’

@Jessikka It depends if the scan is internal or external - internal needs an empty bladder and an over the belly one needs full - by full though, literally a pint of water will do it :)

@purplefig It is New Look; already feeling a bit tight haha! Ahh how amazing your 20 week scan is so soon; I just feel like once I know what flavour we’re having it will become so much more real! I need that kick up the butt at the moment!! Your headaches sound awful; I only get them from time to time and water and sleep helps me. Definitely mention to the midwife I’m sure she’ll have some practical advice - they must have seen it all!

stormtrooperjulian · 03/09/2019 11:00

@cupcakesandglitter I'm glad you've managed to get signed off, you need to put yourself first and get plenty of rest

@purplefig @thumper59 I had so many headaches in the second trimester. My midwife said it was normal and just keep taking paracetamol... it didn't seem to do much though!

@MrsEG that's a lovely bump! Not surprising you're getting lots of pains, you must be growing so quickly at the moment with two babies in there.

@BostonFern going swimming might help too? Takes all the pressure off your joints etc and lets you move around comfortably

@Jessikka I had a scan at 7+4, the booking confirmation email I got told me to arrive with a full bladder, I drank a large glass of water about an hour before the appointment.

purplefig · 03/09/2019 11:03

@MrsEg oh I can definitely appreciate that finding out the sex will make me more real, my husband cannot WAIT!! Like you, I need it as a kick up the butt - we haven't got anything yet. We have got a list though!!

@Jessikka I had one at 8+4 and it did wonders for chilling me out! Mine was external so had a pint of water 1hr beforehand. I'd contact the place and enquire.

Just back from my 16 week (though I'm 17+1) appointment with the midwife. It was fab, first time meeting her as she was away during my booking in appointment and she's great. We listened to the heartbeat and it was surprisingly emotional! I also asked her about headaches (cc'ing in @thumper59) and she stressed that a) it's totally normal b) taking paracetamol is completely fine c) stay hydrated as it's so much easier to get dehydrated when pregnant.

thumper59 · 03/09/2019 11:43

@MrsEG I can relate to the gaviscon in a bag- I've got bottles all over 😂 I can't go anywhere without it. The other night DH picked me up after a hen do and he'd brought me a bottle of gaviscon- I didn't even have to ask 😂. Yeah you are doing twice as much growing! So exciting

@purplefig so glad you got to hear the heartbeat. It's lovely isn't it- I'm glad the headaches are normal! It's hard to drink so much as well isn't it because you end up going for 5 x more wee's than usual. 😂. Now I think about it I always got hormonal headaches around my period too x

purplefig · 03/09/2019 16:36

Quiet on here today!

@thumper59 husband points for your DH! Yes it was totally amazing listening to their heartbeat, especially as I wasn't expecting it. Urghh tell me about it, I basically live on the loo these days Grin. I'm just going to take paracetamol as and when needed going forward, the midwife made it clear it's absolutely fine to take.

MrsEG · 03/09/2019 17:01

@stormtrooperjulian I actually found a picture on my phone today I took at 9 weeks thinking I had a bump... the amount of growth in just 6 weeks looking back now is crazy! How are you feeling now; really not long at all for you to go! I bet you are so ready to meet baby now x

@purplefig I have almost finished my list; a lot of it is in my head though haha. I just need it cross checking to make sure I’m not buying rubbish I don’t need. Was also told by several women at the baby shower this weekend to get a Gro egg so that’s been added! Although I may hold out just in case anyone gets me one...
Oh I’m so pleased you heard the heartbeat how lovely!! I really hope they can find both at mine - there must be a knack to it I’m sure!

@thumper59 Haha, you know it’s true love when he turns up with the Gaviscon!!

Had my niece over today - my god I am all Peppa Pig’d out!! Yoga tonight and then more Bake Off, I bloody love biscuit week too! Enjoy your evenings all x

ELW85 · 03/09/2019 17:56

Evening all!
Work was so busy today and now gym time. Need to push through the tiredness!

@purplefig - thank you for the tip on the course! I don’t fancy doing a face to face one, so the option of reading/watching/listening at home totally suits!
Oh I didn’t realise you were self employed; I’d love to do that some day 😊
I hope your headaches improve!

@MrsEG - I’m awful for googling! Today I’ve been reading up on the NT part of the 12 week scan and wish I hadn’t. Now I’ve got what measurements need to be in my head, which isn’t great.

I forgot it’s Bake Off tonight! Can’t seem to watch live on the All4 app so will have to watch it tomorrow 😢

TrashKitten10 · 03/09/2019 18:33

Hi all, I've been a bit absent. Last week DH had the week off and we enjoyed lots of lovely days out. Realised that the next break we have from work will be our maternity and paternity leave which is a scary thought! 30+6 today and back to work with about a million comments about the size of my bump. Some saying I'm huge and have massively grown over summer and some saying they're amazed bump hasn't changed or grown in six weeks. Makes sense 🤔 so I'm simultaneously worried my baby is not growing and growing too much. Wish people would just stop commenting Grin

@thumper59 Your baby shower sounds exciting! Sorry to hear you're feeling rubbish though. Maybe time to start taking it a bit easier while your body is working so hard growing your baby.

@purplefig We've just started our hypnobirthing course too and it's so interesting! Well done your DH for doing his research ☺️

@MrsEG Your bump is growing so quickly! Those babies are nestling in nicely.

@Jessikka At my 8 week scan they tried an external scan first but I hadn't managed to drink much water as my morning sickness had just kicked in. I couldn't manage more than small sips so they got me to empty my bladder and did an internal. So I'd say try to drink a decent amount but don't worry, they'll manage either way.

@MrsEG @ELW85 Can't wait for bake off but gutted I don't have any actual biscuits to scoff whilst watching, it always makes me so hungry 😩

MrsEG · 03/09/2019 19:38

@ELW85 I stay away from google as much as I can now; NHS website and my one app only. Also now have a twin book that I’m reading through the pregnancy part. The length and breadth of Google has caused me so much unnecessary anxiety over the past 12 months that I have totally broken up with it!
Your scan will be wonderful - enjoy it :) It’s such a wonderful milestone to reach.

@TrashKitten10 Why do people feel the need to comment?! I’m sure it’s people just filling a silence sometimes but as you say, it’s just annoying! I’ve had so many ‘My god, you’re going to be absolutely enormous ‘ - like, tell me something I don’t know!
Glad you had a lovely week off. Nearly 31 weeks!! Final countdown now!
(And yes - I’ve just sent DH our for biscuits..)

My yoga got cancelled! It’s pouring rain so I can’t even be bothered going for a walk. GBBO and a peppermint tea it is :)
