38+6 weeks pregnant- anyone fancy joining me in a babywatch thread?!

39 weeks pregnant tomorrow. I lost my mucus plug 2 weeks ago and have been getting tonnes of low down pressure and sharp stabbing pains in my cervix ever since, but no progress.

This is baby 2 for us. DD is just turned 2. I’m impatient for baby to arrive but also desperate to savour the last few days (weeks Confused) with my little girl.

Anyone in a similar position and want to join me on bsbywatch?

Nothing to report here! Really thought I'd have had this baby by the end of the weekend. I'm a bit worried about DH being back at work tomorrow as I've had so many false starts, I feel like by the time I'm absolutely sure it will be quite late in the process!

I have another sweep on Tuesday so maybe that will work... my midwife seemed convinced I wouldn't need it, we shall see!

@Triskaidekaphilia I'm also trying to keep in mind that either way it's now a matter of days rather than weeks, which in the scheme of things isn't that long really.

Good luck with the induction @fae1989!

Cam1991 · 04/08/2019 18:20

Hello everyone Smile I'm pregnant with my first baby. I was due on Wednesday 31st July, but that's come and gone! Currently 40+4 and feeling a bit fed up. I am booked in for a stretch and sweep on Wednesday. I hope he makes his appearance soon Grin

RoseReally · 04/08/2019 18:28

@Cam1991 welcome Smile I feel your pain, it's quite hard not to be fed up when you go overdue I think! Fingers crossed we won't need the sweeps!

Cam1991 · 04/08/2019 18:34

@RoseReally How overdue are you? When is your sweeo booked for? I really don't want to be induced as I've heard it's more painful Sad

Triskaidekaphilia · 04/08/2019 19:15

@RoseReally I really thought I'd have mine by now too, even though I was the first to tell people I'd probably be over a week late, I think I started getting my hopes up when I got symptoms back at 39 weeks! I can't see it happening today though so just preparing for the induction. Hopefully because you've had a lot of false starts anyway, the sweep might get things moving for real!

Welcome @Cam1991, hope your sweep works for you. From what I've heard, with inductions you get stronger contractions more quickly so that's the main reason it feels more painful. If it's propess induction, which I'm trying tomorrow, it should be the same as spontaneous labour, it's the syntocin drip version that brings on labour quickly.

Cam1991 · 04/08/2019 20:06

@Triskaidekaphilia are you having a pessary/gel?

Triskaidekaphilia · 04/08/2019 20:31

@Cam1991 yes, it's the 24 hour one so I can go home while it works Smile

Triskaidekaphilia · 04/08/2019 20:37

(Well, I bloody hope it works! Grin)

Cam1991 · 04/08/2019 21:52

Good luck Smile hopefully you won't have to have the drip!

RoseReally · 04/08/2019 22:02

@Triskaidekaphilia oh I didn't realise your induction was so soon, wishing you all.the very best!

@Cam1991 I'm 5 days over today. Second sweep on Tuesday. My DD was 10 days late, had myself convinced I'd only go a couple of days over this time Sad. Not much to do now but hope and wait!

Cam1991 · 04/08/2019 22:08

@RoseReally do they always offer you a second sweep? How long after the first one do they do the second? I had a feeling I would be overdue, it's frustrating Grin

RoseReally · 04/08/2019 22:19

@Cam1991 I think it's probably different in different areas. Where I live they offer sweeps from 40 weeks for women who've had a baby before. I think they'll usually try a couple of sweeps just to prevent inductions if at all possible. With DD I think I had to wait till I was around 4 days over for the first sweep and then I had another at a week over I think. I think I did have to push a bit for that though!

Triskaidekaphilia · 04/08/2019 22:41

@Cam1991 thank you, I'm hoping not but I'm willing to accept it as a possibility. I was offered 3 sweeps but turned the third down as the second was painful and she couldn't reach (first one absolutely fine. My first and second were two days apart. I'm willing to accept another before the pessary if they suggest it.

@RoseReally yeah, I'll be 41+4 tomorrow so I'm willing to get the process started. I planned to wait until 42 weeks but I'm constantly worrying about movements and pains so think its for the best.

SenoraSurf · 05/08/2019 14:44

How's everyone doing?

No news here. Lost some more plug and having more lightening crotch in the evenings but still nada. Second Sweep tomorrow (41+2).

Triskaidekaphilia · 05/08/2019 15:23

Sorry to hear you're still waiting @SenoraSurf but more mucus plug is promising!
I had the pessary around 11 today and was allowed to go home after 30 mins monitoring and a walk about. So far I have some cervix pains and very light cramping. If this doesn't start labour tonight I'll be going back to hospital tomorrow until they can get labour started. She said something about my cervix starting to open on the outside but still closed on the inside which was a bit confusing. Maybe dilated vs effaced?

RoseReally · 05/08/2019 16:00

@Triskaidekaphilia hmm never heard it worded that way but I would assume that means effacing rather than dilating? Don't know. All the best, hope it goes well.

Triskaidekaphilia · 05/08/2019 20:48

@RoseReally yeah I haven't either... I guess it doesn't matter really as she'll check again tomorrow but I do like to know these things...

I can't tell if I'm having contractions or just quite intense pre-labour pains. I thought the latter as feels like strong period pains, but I've now noticed there is a pattern to them, the pain comes on every 5 minutes, lasts 50 seconds and there is a definite build and fall with the pain- on the other hand my bump doesn't get as tight as it did with my braxton hicks so makes me think it is just general pains? I know a few of you have had false labour type pains, what do you think?

RoseReally · 05/08/2019 21:49

@Triskaidekaphilia If it's regular I'd say it's probably early labour. My false starts have been erratic and more general period type pains than regular contractions. When I was in established labour with DD the contractions were very regular and extremely painful (sorry!) - I mean to the point where you can't talk/ think of anything else.

Mrsmummy90 · 05/08/2019 22:40

It sounds like early labour. My false starts didn't have a build up in the pain but my real labour did. I was convinced that the real labour was braxton hicks x good luck :)

Triskaidekaphilia · 06/08/2019 08:04

Ended up going into hospital last night as contractions were only 2-3 mins apart by 11pm. Was taken to the labour ward, the pessary has softened my cervix well but it's still very far back, they sent me back to induction overnight but I've only slept a 1-2 minutes between contractions so I'm absolutely shattered. It's getting awful and making me feel sick so I really hope something is actually happening!

Mrsmummy90 · 06/08/2019 08:13

Sending you big hugs!
Fingers crossed baby comes into the world very soon! If not, epidurals are AMAZING!!

RoseReally · 06/08/2019 09:21

@Triskaidekaphilia aw sorry to hear that! If contractions are that close together I wouldn't have thought it would be too ling now. Wishing you all the very best - yiu can do this!

SenoraSurf · 06/08/2019 14:27

@Triskaidekaphilia hope you're ok and snuggling your little baby by now? Same to you @Fae1989 !!

Another failed sweep for me. Booked in for induction on Friday (40+12) Sad sucks as I know I'm going to have the horrible pain from the cervix fiddling later which will convince me it's the real deal but be false and I'll be disheartened and grumpy again haha

Triskaidekaphilia · 07/08/2019 14:53

She's here!

For those who want to read my rather long birth story:
After I took the pessary out at 11.15 yesterday I was found to be 4cm dilated so was able to go back to the labour suite soon afterwards. I was pleased that I got to that point with just hypnobirthing, paracetamol and codeine. I was able to cope just with the pool for a while which took me to 5cm, then they broke my waters to sped it up. I went back in the pool with gas and air, then accepted diamorphine when it got a bit much. That got me to 9cm and I went back in the pool with g&a, then 10cm and started to push in the pool. The diamorphine had worn off so just g&a and the pool; I thought I was going to get my perfect birth. However the contractions weren't frequent enough to help me push her out and I had to get out and have the drip. This really ramped them up but I was able to push more effectively. Once I had the head out the rest of her body just kind of slid out on its own! She was born around 1am today.

I had a lovely half an hour or so of skin on skin but then terrifyingly she briefly stopped breathing, so DH had to go with her to neonatal while I went to theatre for a 3rd degree tear. She's absolutely fine now but I've not been able to see or hold her since about 2am which is heartbreaking. I should be getting help to see her very soon though, or if they finish all the checks before that she can come to us. DH has been going and looking after her and sending me pictures though. Can't wait to have her back :(

Mrsmummy90 · 07/08/2019 15:09

Congratulations!!
So sorry you went through that ordeal at the end though. Fingers crossed she's back in your arms very soon. Xxx
