I'm so excited to start this thread. Looks like I'll be due 1st April from my ovulation day (28th July by last period)!

I'm absolutely over the moon after a MC in May.
Bring on the April Babies!

Hi All,

Looking for a bit of advice really.

I too am feeling very anxious until my early scan when I get some reassurance that everything is as it should be, due to the fact I’m so early on! And every cramp I get I think the worst!

Anyway, I have a holiday booked to Aruba in three weeks but I am now worried about going as read there is a risk of the Zika virus! Amongst other things. Now wondering if I should cancel and just take the hit (holiday fully paid for).

Sorbfsiabs · 09/08/2019 13:41

Might it be covered by your holiday insurance?x

mumof1hants · 09/08/2019 13:58

@Wilson1990 I'd check with your gp ASAP. They usually have advice on all the foreign diseases. Also checking insurance is a good shout. I really wouldn't want to miss out (on the holiday and the money!!) unless it was a real issue x

mumof1hants · 09/08/2019 14:04

@Wilson1990 were u due to take malaria tablets? I just had a quick look online & it says pregnant people are attractive to mosquitos but it recommends you use strong DEET repellant and a mosquito net (you've probably already researched this - sorry!) x

HattieRabbit · 09/08/2019 14:06

@Carysmatic

Try not to think of it a ‘good’ and ‘bad’ smells as smells you liked before pregnancy might make you sick now.

Cat poo is an obvious 🤢 but even though most people would like a nice soap smell, if it makes you feel sick then it’s a bad smell!!

Think of it as smells you enjoy and smells you don’t. For example I used to LOVE the smell of chorizo...but now it makes me 🤮. Same with strong cheese! If the smell of your soap makes you gag then stash the soap in the cupboard and get some plain stuff until LO is feeling a bit more sturdy 😂

  • The cat incident has been dealt with. My lovely parents cleaned all the floors and wiped down my little monster 🐯 mums currently out picking me up bits I fancy from the supermarket as she’s worried about how much weight I’m losing! 😂

You really never stop being a mum do you? I wonder if we’ll all still be running around for our LO’s in 27 years time 😂

albus55 · 09/08/2019 14:38

@wilson1990 I had to cancel a holiday during my last pregnancy and because it was due to the pregnancy the doctor wrote me a letter explaining and I sent it to the airline (First Choice) and then cancelled the holiday but we were allowed to transfer it to another one so we didn't lose any money and just rebooked for the following year at no extra cost - might be an option x

eskimod · 09/08/2019 14:48

@Warrior9
I got a darker line at 13 dpo and then again 15 dpo 😊

Islandermum · 09/08/2019 15:08

@HattieRabbit I think I'd be about a 9/10. That's not acceptable, it's not safe for you to be around cat poo and would've taken all of 1 minute to clean the little tray 🤷‍♀️

Go on groupon they have deals for scans x

BristolBear · 09/08/2019 16:53

@islandermum how far along were you when you first had a scan at the hospital? I'm getting more and more cramps and discomfort (especially today) on one side and am freaking a bit.

Is 5+5 too early for them to be able to check via scan?

BristolBear · 09/08/2019 16:54

Am not far from a+e so was going to head there soon.

Wilson1990 · 09/08/2019 17:06

Thanks everyone, I will ask my doctors and check out my insurance!
Taking each day as it comes! Hoping for the best! X

Islandermum · 09/08/2019 17:38

@BristolBear I was probably less than 5+5 with my first scan and the scan was worthwhile to detect that the gestational sac was in the right place. Call the EPU, you can usually self refer. They will offer you another scan after if they can't find the heartbeat which is not always likely at 5+5 (hence why I had two)

@Whatelsecouldibecalled no I didn't have IVF. I was referred to fertility with fibroids and enlarged right ovary, and then I conceived naturally for the first time ever last month. That's why I'm confused my GP told me to keep the fertility appointment!

@HattieRabbit OMG 10, 10, 10! I would be very upset! My partner is being funny about cleaning out our rats cages (we have pet rats and I'm the one that cleans them but no way I'm risking going near animal poo) but I'm going to make sure he takes it seriously - not much to ask compared to being a dad!

@Islandermum congratulations on your healthy little bean!!! I'm so tempted by an early scan but I don't know if I'm being silly and I should just trust and wait. I'm only at 5 weeks so I'll wait and see how anxious I am by 7 weeks I guess :)

MOGMOGMOG85 · 09/08/2019 18:03

I'm 5 weeks today and I think the tiredness may have hit me? Does it feel a bit like being a zombie/underwater and really spaced out? I was struggling to function, like literally mouth hanging open if I didn't consciously close it! Hope I don't get like that when I'm driving. Is that level normal? Feel better now I'm home but still really tired but at least can have a shower and go to bed.

Emiliemoo · 09/08/2019 19:14

I think this is probably a stupid question but what does it mean that some lines are darker/stronger than others on the positive tests?

MOGMOGMOG85 · 09/08/2019 19:23

@Emiliemoo i don't know all the details but i think how much water you've drunk makes a big difference? My first test I was really dehydrated and it was soooooo dark. All the ones since have been less strong and i've been drinking lots, including the one at the drs which was super weak and i had drank way too much water!

BristolBear · 09/08/2019 19:26

Thank you so much for the advice @islandermum I've called around both North and south of the city epac and they are closed, the main hospital reception advised I call 111.

That probably means they're not too worried so will take some painkillers and if I end up at doubled over in agony stage I'll take myself off to A&E or call 111.

Sorry I didn't say earlier but so exciting to hear that little heartbeat! So very happy for you!! Flowers

MOGMOGMOG85 · 09/08/2019 19:28

@Emiliemoo www.verywellfamily.com/line-not-getting-darker-on-pregnancy-test-2371252 i don't think the line means much about HGC levels, that's why the doctor has to do a blood test if there are any questions. also the quality of the test will make a difference!

lilyj13 · 09/08/2019 19:36

@MOGMOGMOG85 I drove past my doctors 3 times today, I ended up crying to my husband I didn't know if the building had moved or I was going insane lol I found it in the end

Emiliemoo · 09/08/2019 19:56

Thanks @MOGMOGMOG85, I've heard people mention the difference in the lines with their tests but wasn't sure if it was significant or what it meant. Good to know Smile

Islandermum · 09/08/2019 20:56

@BristolBear please give them a call tomorrow morning. They might be able to get you in. Thank you so much, I genuinely understand how you must be feeling right now, I was really concerned but I really hope it has a good outcome and baby is safe and healthy 💐

@Emiliemoo it can mean not much at all if your lines are varying in darkness. Do you have a picture? Have the lines got gradually lighter or do they fluctuate?
A line is a line but if it is fading, I would consider having a chat with your doctor just to check everything is on track 💐

@MOGMOGMOG85 thanks for the link about test lightness and darkness. Since I got my BFP I've been doing an IC test a day and it was steadily getting darker but yesterday it was fractionally lighter than the day before which totally through me so I didn't do another test again today. But that link has really helped reassure me. I had a chemical last month and literally started bleeding 2 days after my BFP and it's now nearly been a week since I got my BFP this time so I'm really trying to stay more on the positive side of things! I keep saying my mantra to myself, just wish I didn't feel so stressed out!

MOGMOGMOG85 · 09/08/2019 21:25

@Carysmatic I'm so stressed too, i feel like a madwoman just constantly thinking about miscarriage probability. I have been testing daily but think I should have a day off, or maybe 2 if I can stand it! It's such a waste! I tried your mantra thing but just literally saying the word "baby" 3 times and it made me laugh and feel more positive :) what week are you now? I'm 5 weeks today and just feel the risks are still high and want to be further along. If i could pay to be anaesthetised for 2 weeks so I didn't have to wait it out i would!

Carysmatic · 09/08/2019 21:37

@MOGMOGMOG85 it's so difficult I literally have not stopped thinking about pregnancy and miscarriage since I got my BFP on Sunday! I work shifts so literally haven't been into work for ages and am now going to work tomorrow and Sunday and I'm really hoping it will bring a bit of normality to my life! As long as the mantra makes you feel positive then it's working! I'm 5 weeks +1 today so really close to you, I just feel every day that passes and I'm still pregnant is a blessing! It's gunna be a long 9months! 😂
