This was the problem I had. All the girls names I liked and thought were unusual aren't

shagirl · 20/07/2007 20:55

I have a Jessica, Martha & Katie!

thirtysomething · 20/07/2007 20:57

Thousands of Jessicas around here!
Not so many Imogens or Sophies, they are lovely names!
I just love Kitty, but am not sure how a 40-year olf kitty would feel.
There are loads of ellies around here but have always loved Elisabeth as can be shortened to Ellie/Beth/Lizzie.
I know of a couple of Sams with sisters called Lily/Evie
Hannah is a lovely name and is underused.
Elena is lovely as is Emma
saskia quite popular, as is Phoebe but both pretty imho!
Isabelle/Isabella and Francesca/Alexandra nice too

We have picked Lilly Frances for a little girl....

dollydumps · 21/07/2007 17:00

My little one is called Abigail shortened to Abbie. We were convinced we were having a boy so hadn't even considered girls names. She had a few days of MIA, MARISSA, AMELIE, before we eventually settled on Abbie. It just sort of suited her - you'll probably find the same when your lo makes her appearance.
On middle names, if your daughter is taking her daddy's surname, why not put your maiden name as her middle name. We did, and I thought my dad was going to burst with pride (our family name won't be carried on as my mum and dad had 2 girls and we're both married). I just thought it was a nice way for her to know her roots iyswim?

Nice: Sophie, Lucie (but prefer the -y spelling), Imogen. Libby is pretty if it is a shortening of lizabeth or similar, but not as a name on its own iyswim.
Don't like: Jessica, Jessie, Summer

Tinker · 21/07/2007 23:44

About being x number of the girls names of 2007 list - there is a much bigger pool of girls names used than boys so being number 20 on the girls list means the name is still a lot rarer than No 20 on teh boys list

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/07/2007 23:47

Not Ella.
