Found out that my baby is a girl and right from pissing on the stick I have decided it would be Matilda for a girl.

My other kids are Megan and Harvey and think that goes nicely with it.

At first DH wasnt too keen but thought it was alright - fine thought I, I can talk him round.

But now we know it is a girl he has decided it is horrible, even went as far as to say he hates it

SNOT FAIR

Shall I insist, claiming that as I have to push her out I should be able to name her or can anyone think of some nice names that are similar and suit my other two?

my cousins dd is mathilde-lovely!

Ceolas · 20/07/2007 11:36

Don't think you can insist, tbh. Yes, you push her out, but she's his child too

I know how you feel. Dh has vetoed many of my suggestions for this baby, due in 5 weeks and as yet we can't agree...

PeckaRolloverAgain · 20/07/2007 11:36

KerryM do you not like it? I dont get whats not to like - this is why it puzzles me that he "hates" it!

Not fair to try to impose a name he hates, I'm afraid (I like Matilda, though)

What about

Eleanor
Alice
Charlotte
Amelia
Imogen
Lydia

pinkykim · 20/07/2007 11:40

I like the name matilda but if DH doesn't like it then you should agree on using a name you both like.(try to persuade him first with the i have to push her out trick)if not what about....

Maddison
Tilly

names that are close to your choice but different aswell.

Quattrocento · 20/07/2007 11:41

Matilda is lovely and all the diminutives are lovely too - Tilly is best but Matty is okay and even Tilda has an elegant ring.

I understand that DH's disapproval is a bit dampening but try bringing him around.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 20/07/2007 11:42

I really like Imogen but do you think its too close to Megan?

Also like Lola but think it wouldnt suit a grown woman!!

I think Imogen is too close to Megan but I love Lola and I love

I don't think Imogen is too close to Megan. They sound very different.

tiredemma · 20/07/2007 11:49

I LOVE Matila- If I had another child and it was a girl, I would call her MAtila- Dp loves it also.

It would be a toss up between Matilda and Amelia but I think Matilda would get it!

tiredemma · 20/07/2007 11:49

matilda sorry- cant even spell it!!!!

pinkykim · 20/07/2007 11:50

Has DH made any suggestions?

cazzybabs · 20/07/2007 11:53

I love it - especially shortened to Tilly, but Ithink with names you have to compromise with your dh, else, if he is like mine, he will not remain d for long!

puppydavies · 20/07/2007 11:53

there are so many names out there, surely you can find one you both like?

i can understand your dh reaction tbh - although i quite like the name it isn't particularly pretty is it? it's not quite gertrude, but is heading in that direction iykwim. i know several dogs called tilly so that colours my feelings about that, tilda just makes me think of rice.

if he doesn't like matilda i guess he won't be a fan of martha either, which i love and is slightly more elegant than matilda.

Dawn2820 · 20/07/2007 12:27

i have to agree there are better names out there

here are a few i like

Tianna
Rhea
Isobelle
Lauren

TenaLady · 20/07/2007 12:29

Ive never understood men that think they can tell a woman how to dress, cook and decorate houses, never mind what you are going to call your child. Womens work, tell him to get out there and earn the pennies to put the food on the table

I had the same problem with each of my children's names. dh just refused to agree to the names I wanted and I didn't want to impose them. In the end we compromised and I do love the names we have now. (btw one of the names i wanted was lola but dh vetoed that - I'm pleased now).

With one of our children we both wrote down separate lists of names we liked and ended up with the one name that was on both lists.

Names i think go with Megan and harvey:

Amelia
Imogen
Jessie
Eleanor
Isabella
Emily?

pinkykim · 20/07/2007 12:39

I had a list of girls and boys names that i liked and got my DH to do the same. We then kept shortlisting them until we were left with a boys name and a girls name we both liked.

OrmIrian · 20/07/2007 12:41

I wanted Idony for a girl and Jago for a boy. But DH wouldn't play .

But Matilda is much less weird and should be allowed!
