Found out that my baby is a girl and right from pissing on the stick I have decided it would be Matilda for a girl.

My other kids are Megan and Harvey and think that goes nicely with it.

At first DH wasnt too keen but thought it was alright - fine thought I, I can talk him round.

But now we know it is a girl he has decided it is horrible, even went as far as to say he hates it

SNOT FAIR

Shall I insist, claiming that as I have to push her out I should be able to name her or can anyone think of some nice names that are similar and suit my other two?

MY dd IS Matilda!! we call her Tilly most of the time though.

Actually have come across lots of people who obviously hate her name and sneer when we say what shes called.

devonsmummy · 20/07/2007 12:55

I love Tilly - was on my list but DH hated it. How about Maisie?

RGPargy · 20/07/2007 13:06

I like Imogen. Not keen on Matilda. Reminds of an old matron type person. Sorry!

You have to both agree on names tho. Bit unfair to try and persuade to like a name he obviously doesn't!

allgonebellyup · 20/07/2007 13:12

Yes agree Matilda does seem quite "matronly", i went off the name a bit after she was born so thats why we shortened it to Tilly and sometimes Tilda.

devonsmummy · 20/07/2007 13:14

Its a great name for shortening - Tilly, Mattie,Tilda - If she doesn't like Matilda as she grows up she'll have a few options

KalunaLoveGood · 20/07/2007 13:17

Megan and Harvey are v popular names at the moment, can't you just get dh to look on the top 50 girls names and suggest what he thinks as a stating point

nutcracker · 20/07/2007 13:17

Lydia ?

Gingerbear · 20/07/2007 13:20

Della
or Katie

PS if you would like some baby girl clothes, I have lots - just postage costs? When is she due?

Budababe · 20/07/2007 13:21

Ooh Lydia is nice.

Have a friend who called her little one Matilda - Tilly for short - and it is lovely but reminds me of MIL's cat also called Tilly!

Imogen also nice.

emmamaw · 20/07/2007 13:25

Of course, you could pretend to go along with him, and then as soon as she's born, when he's seen you in agony and he's all tearful and apologetic...strike! Start the tears and say you really really really want Matilda. If you get the timing right you get the name you want! At least that's what I did - and it worked!

allgonebellyup · 20/07/2007 13:28

haha gooooood plan Emma !!!
coniving minx..

quint · 20/07/2007 13:29

I agree Matilda is a wonderful name (DD1 is TIlly for short!)

Funny enough DD2 is Megan!

That is a great idea Emma I did the same only about marriage, he never wanted to get married but I asked him while I was in labour and we got married last month so it does work!!!! hahaha was a bit annoyed when he brought the situation up in his wedding speech but never mind!!

emmamaw · 20/07/2007 13:34

And you'll find that as he grows to love the baby, he'll grow to love the name too. In fact if you really think about it, you're actually doing him a favour by forcing him in to a name that one day he'll really love!

quint · 20/07/2007 13:34

I knew someone who loved the name Jude for a boy - her DH was dead against it until he saw what she went through in labour and said she could choose whatever name she wanted!

You could start refering to her as Matilda now and tell people its one of the names your looking at or wait until you;ve given birth and then when you're holding her for the first time, smile and say hello Matilda how are you!

quint · 20/07/2007 13:35

And I don;t think its matronly at all - I think its really pretty!

Does he like the film Leon or Natalie Portman? If so you should be able to bring him round!

suzycreamcheese · 20/07/2007 13:40

i like Matilda..and tilda for short is lovely
love tilda swinton the actress too...

suzycreamcheese · 20/07/2007 13:42

lydia...cant help myself always think teapot!

honeyapple · 21/07/2007 10:31

Sorry your DH has no taste!
My DD is Matilda and it is a fantastic name... generally she gets called Tilly or Tilda.

Never even crossed my mind that it was matronly. I think it is a very dignified and strong name. And I have never had anyone say they didnt like it...

Strangely, our other name choice was Lola! But MIL hated it.

I would advise to let the matter drop for a little while. Let DH have some time to cool down from his name grump.

I thought this would be your thread lol.

FWIW, dh has said no to all mine too

WideWebWitch · 21/07/2007 10:35

Matilda is lovely. You should be allowed to have it I say. He's not the one doing childbirth. Unless he agrees to have his balls clamped in a vice for the entire duration of labour to simulate the level of pain.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 21/07/2007 10:36

Maybe I should try laying off - tried him with it again last night and he is NOT budging!

Does anyone like Stella?
