@kathryn19 and @Daffodil2491 I just had a quick read about hypermobility syndrome, to add in top pregnancy laxity - how do you manage? Sending healing hugs to you both

Daffodil2491 · 16/05/2019 22:04

@Kathryn19 lol I could have written most of that myself! Especially the sports bit which may have made things worse now lol gotta love hindsight! Oh well. I meet all the criteria and ‘passed’ (i prefer failed lol) all the things they measure on the scale (can’t remember it’s name) although not severe and don’t overextend excessively but I can if I’m not paying attention if that makes sense. Mostly elbows and ankles for me and I dislocated my shoulder when I was 17! Ouch, apparently it’s the closest pain to childbirth lol.... midwife wasn’t concerned when I told her. I’m a bit worried for later down the line as my job is fairly active so don’t want to be in too much pain, will have to do my physio exercises and be good 😂 lol

Daffodil2491 · 16/05/2019 22:09

@64632K thanks hun, fortunately it’s not severe so manage ok most of the time, I got my diagnosis when I went to the GP because I thought something was terribly wrong eg: I’d be writing on the whiteboard and just drop the pen with no warning I thought it was something awful but turns out I’m just over flexing my elbow and finger joints and trapping the signals in my nerves so my fingers don’t work lol, thanks to some good physio this doesn’t happen much now unless I forget to do my exercises so I have to be good lol.

Kathryn19 · 16/05/2019 22:14

@64632K thank you!!! It's not too bad honest, and I'm quite used to it. We all have our things though I guess. Makes us unique..?!

@Daffodil4291 sounds similar to mine, I just tend to overextend knees and elbows when not paying attention. But mostly just injury prone.. got diagnosed at physio for a knee injury. Together with flat feet it led to some quite bad knee issues as a teen. Day to day it is just that my ankles and wrists ache and I'm very clicky! I am not jealous of the dislocation, that sounds soooo sore!! My midwife put it on my notes to be aware of but wasn't concerned either.

64632K · 16/05/2019 22:14

I shall complain about my shoulder pain no more 😐, I had some extra bone removed from my left shoulder which is still being a royal pain in the ass now, you are both one tough cookie

Daffodil2491 · 16/05/2019 22:24

@64632K nah, complain away, as @Kathryn19 said we’ve all got our little quirks and I don’t think you can compare pain isn’t relative your pain is yours and it makes you feel how it makes you feel just because it’s not the same doesn’t mean it’s not important you still deal with it, and besides we’re all pregnant so therefore have the right to complain all we like 😂😜🙈

Kathryn19 · 16/05/2019 22:32

@Daffodil4291 @64632K hear hear to that!!!

helpneededandadvice · 16/05/2019 23:15

I just wanted more advice on it. Thank you so much @Daffodil2491 xo

Daffodil2491 · 17/05/2019 06:59

@helpneededandadvice that’s ok, ask anything, this is a lovely thread with good people. From what I’ve read while trying to get pregnant it really doesn’t happen that fast. (And I read a lot as I was a bit obsessed 🙈lol) You have your period then build up to your ‘fertile window’ then if you do have sex during that time and the egg is fertilised it then takes 5-9 days ish to implant in your womb and then would be around 14 days after that before you got a positive test. I took my first test 20 days after when I think I ovulated, and didn’t get 2-3 weeks on a digital until a week after that, also when you get 2–3 weeks you’re actually 4–5 weeks pregnant already. Hope that makes sense, don’t beat yourself up, life happens lol and no one has the right to judge, they aren’t in your shoes, take care of you and little one x

CaptainSparklez · 17/05/2019 09:21

@64632K I haven’t put on any weight yet. In fact I look no different other than my boobs expanding so rapidly I bust through a shirt yesterday morning. I wouldn’t worry about it, but maybe just ask the midwife next week for some reassurance. I hope your appointment goes well and you get to see the little one again.

Hi @JadaMarie, I found out around the 5-6 week mark due to horrendous morning (all day) sickness. I was immediately booked in to have a dating scan to work out how far along I was as my previous lack of periods made estimating the due date really difficult. So far everything has been really straightforward at the 12 week scan and 16 week appointment and thankfully the morning sickness had disappeared completely by 14 weeks. Have you had many symptoms and have you arranged a booking in appointment yet ??

@icklemissspy a BaByQ sounds amazing! I may have to mention that idea to DM and DSis. I’m quite a control freak too (in the best way!) so will still want to be involved in the planning. We’re planning on telling everyone the gender as soon as we find out at the next scan. I don’t think I could keep it a secret for that long Grin
I’ve been meaning to message the local pregnancy yoga/pilates class about times so thank you for reminding me!

@Daffodil2491 the express parking is a godsend, sometimes it can take forever queuing for the shuttle buses. We’re not planning any big purchases either, but you never know!

64632K · 17/05/2019 09:50

@helpneededandadvice, Daffodil2491 is right, you have joined one of the nicest threads here on MN, I find other threads a bit mean so glad you found a supportive space. Again what Daffodil says is correct. You ovulate, depending on length of cycle, about day 21 after the first day of period. From there it takes the egg about 5 days to develop into something called a blastocyst whilst travelling down to where it eventually will bury itself in your uterine lining. It takes another 10 days ish for enough HCG to be produced to pick up on a pregnancy test. Chances are you were already pregnant before your encounter

Kathryn19 · 17/05/2019 10:16

Wow you guys are knowledgeable! I know the basics but definitely couldn't have given that much detail. I'm definitely not the person to give advice on dates as this little one was not exactly planned - feel so awful to say that, I know we are so lucky it happened so easily. Very happy and excited about it though!

CaptainSparklez · 17/05/2019 10:54

I completely agree about the lovely and knowledgeable people on this thread @Kathryn19.

Our little jellybean was quite a surprise too. I'd always been told that I'd need to have lots of tests to work out if pregnancy was even possible when we wanted to start trying due to severe pcos and a general lack of periods, implying I wasn't even ovulating. I actually laughed when DH and DM both suggested I take a test to 'rule it out' after I'd been throwing up constantly for 2 weeks. So imagine my surprise when two blue lines showed up instantly!

JadaMarie · 17/05/2019 14:06

@CaptainSparklez Hiya!! Sounds like a tiring horrendous start to it but I'm so glad everything is going well for you and baby!! I haven't had many symptoms yet. Feeling exhausted all the time and seem to be getting nauseous in the middle of the night and early morning which isn't doing my sleep any good. I have called and should be getting a call from the midwife next week to arrange my appointment. No idea what to expect from it. Do many dads go to it? Is it worth him coming? Any advice there would be great!!

Kathryn19 · 17/05/2019 14:20

@CaptainSparklez oh wow what a surprise!! But a fantastic one.

@JadaMarie the booking in appointment is the only one my husband has come to aside from scans. It is a long one as they have to get a lot of info from you on medical history, family history etc. Husband appreciated coming as he got to ask all his questions too!

JadaMarie · 17/05/2019 14:45

@Kathryn19 thank you!! Its good to know. I will get OH to come to this as I'm sure he has questions. Plus there are more medical things his side anyway. :-)

64632K · 17/05/2019 14:46

@CaptainSparklez that must've been a heart stopping moment for you both.

@JadaMarie my DH came to my booking appt although they did ask him to leave during the safeguarding questions. He found it very useful.

lostlobster · 17/05/2019 14:49

Hi, I’d like to join if that’s okay. I’m 28weeks with my first DC, a little boy!

Kathryn19 · 17/05/2019 15:00

@JadaMarie they are welcome at any appointment if you'd like them there. They tick an accompanied yes or no box each time actually! But the later appointments are quick so husband is only planning to come if I really want him there or he isn't working anyway.

@lostlobster hello! That's super exciting Smile how are you doing?

@Daffodil4291 I take back my lack of complaints yesterday, it seems my flat feet have turned into plantar fasciitis! My right heel has been agony for 24 hours now (screamed when I accidentally banged it!) And my foot has gone rather swollen and ugly. More pregnancy joys haha!

On a more cheerful note, happy Friday to all the first time mums to be! I hope everyone has a lovely weekend Grin

lostlobster · 17/05/2019 15:03

@Kathryn19 I’m doing good, just getting a bit nervous now as it’s all getting more real. We’ve got our shortlist of names now, and will soon be doing the nursery!.

Kathryn19 · 17/05/2019 15:19

@lostlobster so exciting! We are also closing in on a name. Nursery will have to wait until we move house, hopefully in July......! Confused

64632K · 17/05/2019 15:33

Welcome and lostlobster and congratulations

@JadaMarie they didnt really ask me much about DH family medical history. When we questionned it they said it was more important about parents and siblings. I explained that my side had no illnesses, however, his side had a number. They said thank you but not necessary which I found odd.

Becky6X · 17/05/2019 16:07

@Babylentil hey, would love to chat :-) I'm a first timer too! I'm 19+3 with a baby boy! Hope you're keeping well x

lostlobster · 17/05/2019 16:30

I think we’ve chose our name!!

Kathryn19 · 17/05/2019 16:52

Amazing @lostlobster!!! Grin
