@littleandoften it's actually shocked me to see how everyone was given different information and potentially different access to various interventions.

Next time I would just ask for a section rather than having synto. I guess until you've tried it and been through it you don't know how various things will work for you though, so we all just go on the information we're given at the time.

LittleAndOften · 05/06/2019 19:18

@PyjamasForever I know! There's no consistency at all. When I look back I think if only I'd been encouraged to try gas and air for a while, instead of the epidural straight away (I mean as soon as they admitted me upstairs to the labour ward).

I was so exhausted by then after 24hrs of severe pain and vomiting (and the darkest night from hell surrounded by moaning, crying women in an early labour ward and only paracetamol for the pain which I threw back up) that all I could think was epidural = pain over. But it could have made all the difference.

DH told me when I finally got upstairs and had some gas & air I turned into a different (ie recognisable) person again. But by then the wheels were in motion for the epidural and it didn't cross my mind to stop it (probs because I was away with the fairies!).

Leleophants · 06/06/2019 08:02

Hey ladies what's an emc?

Mintypea5 · 06/06/2019 08:23

Emergency C section

HeartvsHead · 06/06/2019 08:49

I had a c-section with first. Technically an elective c-section as wasn't in labour but was very last minute as despite being told baby was head down and engaged for weeks I saw a different midwife on my due date who said baby was breech. Turned out she had been breech the whole time and the original midwife had just got it wrong.

I think I'm going to try and push for a scan to check position this time. The actual c-section itself was fine and I recovered really well but because I wasn't an emergency and had not been booked in in time I sat in the hospital for 3 days being told I was next and being bumped. Wasn't allowed home in case labour started so was a horrid few days and wouldn't have happened if midwife had detected it in time!

JoJoSaysHello · 07/06/2019 06:33

Had my first bump shaming - at 16w6d!!

"Oh my wife is a week behind you and she's so much bigger"

Thanks.. as if that's helpful to say to someone who has told you that they are anxious about their pregnancy Hmm Said wife is also a first pregnancy, about the same size as me, etc. But I keep telling myself that everyone is different and I don't need to compare. Still made me feel crappy though!

Mintypea5 · 07/06/2019 06:37

@JoJoSaysHello don't worry! All bumps are different .. DS1 mine was so small I could hide it until 30 weeks ... my sil is so tiny that by 17 weeks she looked about 8 months! We're all different rand bump size doesn't reflect much about the actual baby. All sorts of factors change bump size ... placenta size and position, waters level, bloating, where baby is positioned!

I'm sure you're bump is beautiful

JoJoSaysHello · 07/06/2019 06:40

Thanks, @Mintypea5 Smile I wish I had known / said that in return instead of standing there a bit shocked (that it had been said and that I was so bothered by it!).

Mintypea5 · 07/06/2019 06:44

@JoJoSaysHello last year I was
Pregnant with DS2 working on the top floor of our building ... only level 3 but that's still a lot of stairs so I started getting the lift and some random guy said to me oh my wife was still running and going to the gym when she was way more pregnant than you ... Hmm yeah alright then mate nice for her

PyjamasForever · 07/06/2019 06:49

Oh no @jojosayshello, that sounds upsetting. I have a colleague who is about the same stage of pregnancy as us... I look like I'm having quads and she barely looks a bit bloated so I get loads of comments about how abnormally huge I am (I always answer must be 10% baby and 90% cake) and everyone tells her how small she is. Can't win.

JoJoSaysHello · 07/06/2019 06:51

@Mintypea5 Ha! I'm sure people just don't think when they make these comments... Each to their own, but I'd have been taking to the lift too!!

JoJoSaysHello · 07/06/2019 06:57

@PyjamasForever I'm now feeling like the next six months is going to be a running commentary comparing the two of us... I might have to say something to nip it in the bud! Sounds like you're in the same boat, just more witty than I am!

PyjamasForever · 07/06/2019 07:09

@jojosayshello since having my first and being upset by constant appearance comments ("are you sure you aren't having a girl? People usually glow with a boy but girls drain their beauty") I now make an extra effort to always tell pregnant people I know how great they are looking... Hope karma means someone will start doing the same to me!

Unsureursula · 07/06/2019 08:47

Hello all! Hope everyone is well! I’m 18+2 today and managing to hide bump (let me explain why!) has anyone else had a subchorionic haematoma? It was diagnosed at my 13 weeks scan in a very ‘we’ll review at the 20 weeks scan’. However, we went for a private scan at 16 weeks planning to tell family etc and the sonographer there seemed v worried and said it seemed to be on the placenta! Has anyone experienced this previously? We’re both really worried and I have managed through my MW to get a doctors appt at the hospital for Monday. Any advice would be much appreciated! TIA

Sleepyquest · 07/06/2019 12:37

I haven't got a bump yet and it's making me a bit sad :( 17w and just look really fat

dottydally · 07/06/2019 13:24

@Sleepyquest I'm still small if it helps! I have a small round bump but it would go unnoticed if I wore baggy tops. I've been in tight maternity tops for a couple of weeks as they seem to show it off.

A bit of a plea for help. I am desperately looking for some maternity leggings that aren't see through. I'm tall and a size 10. Usually wear these - https://www.mintvelvet.co.uk/product/black-straight-legging/6062

Although the band is stretchy, now I'm at 17 weeks they are getting uncomfortable. I am happy to pay whatever it costs for decent ones as I often wear them with short tops so they need to not be seethrough. I thought I would be onto a winner with a £30 pair from Seraphine but honestly I have tights thicker Blush help please!!

Sleepyquest · 07/06/2019 13:55

@dottydally thanks! It helps to know you're a size 10. I am bigger (16) and I'm tallish (this is what DH keeps telling me to reassure me bless him)

Unfortunately I can't help you with your legging query as I'm still wearing all my normal clothes - which is a bonus I guess! But hope you find some

dottydally · 07/06/2019 14:13

@Sleepyquest if it's any help, I've only really 'popped' in the past 2 weeks. I will post a photo if I can take one without outing myself!

I think sometimes if you are slightly bigger it can take longer to get the classic rounded bump look. That said I have size 10 friends who had a B shaped house

dottydally · 07/06/2019 14:16

@Sleepyquest whoops!

Friends who had a B shaped bump until the third trimester. They were desperate for it to round and it did! I am also very short in the body so I don't think it would have shown so soon had I had a body that's in proportion with my legs! Do you have a long body?

HeartvsHead · 07/06/2019 14:42

@dottydally the Jojo Maman Babe ones are pretty thick. I've worn them with just a top and my mum (who is usually the first to knicker spot!) said they look fine.

BobbySD345 · 07/06/2019 15:40

@dottydally I've just put on a pair of the asda maternity leggings which are in a pack of two. Not see-through at all and a bargain x

LittleAndOften · 07/06/2019 15:42

I just look fat. I've gone from a size 12 to a size 16 Blush I feel like a blob and I've had 2 comments about it, from my mum and DH, which hasn't helped! I'm a great one for telling everyone else that we are all different etc, but I can't help but look at these lovely slim women with their dinky bumps and sigh.

@dottydally my new look maternity leggings have lasted 4 years, they're great!

Sleepyquest · 07/06/2019 15:47

@dottydally maybe I have a long body, I'm not sure but I'll go with that 😃

@LittleAndOften it's so annoying isn't it! And all these celebrities who announce their pregnancy at 3 months with the cutest bump. When I just look like I need to go back to weight watchers lol!

LittleAndOften · 07/06/2019 16:03

@Sleepyquest I watched a terrible film called How to be Single. It had the most stupid portrayal of pregnancy and labour I'd ever seen. She literally remains stick thin throughout with a tiny bump the size of a melon at the end. Her body changes in no other way. Films and tv have a lot to answer for!

dottydally · 07/06/2019 16:44

Thank you for all the leggings recommendations! I will order some. I think DP is getting frustrated at me doing washing and turning up the radiators every night just to make sure the few things I have that fit are clean and dry Blush

@Sleepyquest yes! Having a long body will make a difference. A lady I work with was in normal trousers up to 20 weeks as she is long in the body. Even then she didn't get huge!

@LittleAndOften oh yes. Tv has got me believing I will be all bump and boobs. We can only hope but I think it's unlikely! My aim is to not look pregnant from the back though Grin

On the countdown to our 20 week scan! 3 weeks today. Who is/isn't finding out?
