Hey all,

How old were you all having your first child? I'm 31 and husband is 38. Just wondering if we are quite old or not to be having first child?

I was 28, DH was 30.
Second child, I was 30, DH was 32.

We're the youngest couple in our antenatal group, but not by much.

Newyearsameoldshit · 13/04/2019 20:30

I was 33, seemed about average for people I know.

Streely · 13/04/2019 20:31

I was 27, but the majority of my friends were mid 30s.

HJWT · 13/04/2019 20:31

Most women these days are 30-45, you see more older women at the baby unit than under 18's now!

bobble53 · 13/04/2019 20:32

I’m 29 Smile

lmj25 · 13/04/2019 20:34

I was 17 with my first 22 with 2nd. Wouldn't change a thingSmile

Shelbybear · 13/04/2019 20:36

I'd say you must be about average or younger than average. I was 31 with my first when she was born, husband was 34. I was always the youngest at baby groups by quite a bit (unless they just all looked rough 😂).

Most ladies I work with all had babies in early to mid 30's but some were closer to 40 and a couple were in their 40's having their first child. No one in my section of the office has has had a baby in their 20's and you are talking about 50+ women on my floor.

Cosmogirl86 · 13/04/2019 20:37

I'm 32 and my husband is 35

Scrumptelicious · 13/04/2019 20:38

I was 31

UK average seems to be 30, so you’re not wildly off the mean!

  1. Although we had been trying for almost two years, so had intended to be under 30. Now we have DD we're in no rush for DC2 and I'm more relaxed about being older when it comes to trying again.
DramaAlpaca · 13/04/2019 20:42

I was 29.

Mintypea5 · 13/04/2019 20:43

I was 24 and the youngest mum at my sons nursery (linked to my work) DS2 I was 30 and DS3 I'll be 32

Lauren83 · 13/04/2019 20:43

34 for DS 1 and 35 for DS 2, took me a long time or would have been sooner, DP was 39 when we had our first

neversleepagain · 13/04/2019 20:45

33 for my first (and second), DH was 40.

NotSoFlatStanley · 13/04/2019 20:45

I was 30 and DH 33, about average in our Ante Natal class and one of the first in our friendship groups.

JBCG · 13/04/2019 20:47

Currently pregnant with my first. I'm 26 and DP is 36

WildFlower2019 · 13/04/2019 20:47

32 when got pregnant. Loss at 33.
33 when I got pregnant again (about a week ago, still v early days!)
I'll be 34 when I have it!

I'm hoping to have a second. Probably won't have time for a third now. And never been sure if I wanted 2-3 anyway so we'll cross that bridge when we get to it!

My plan is to have a second at 36,37,38ish hopefully. FX.

31 is very average from the year I've spent on these boards.

NoParticularPattern · 13/04/2019 20:48

I was 26 and DH was 31 (well, 32 the day after!) we are quite “old” compared to his brothers (26 and 24) and their wives (23 and 21) but then his sister and her partner were both 31. He’s the youngest of 4 though so his brothers had kids 10-15 years ago whereas his sister and us have had them in the last 3 years. I don’t think 31 is particularly old for first baby, I know of several women who were over 40 when they had their first. Some have more now and some only had the one. So long as you’re healthy and don’t have any problems conceiving I don’t think there is really an age that is “too old” for anyone, but you might have a limit on how old you personally feel would be the upper end of acceptable (ie for us it wouldveno more after I’m about 36/37 so that my husband wouldn’t be 60+ when they’re 18, etc etc. But that’s not the same for everyone!)

Susanna30 · 13/04/2019 20:52

24 and felt very young compared to all the other first time mums in the area where I live.
All of the mums in our NCT / baby sensory / rhyme time groups were between 35-45.

annlee3817 · 13/04/2019 20:53

Both myself and DH were 34 :)

Perty01234 · 13/04/2019 20:53

My DH has his first at 23 his ex was 31, we have then had our DS when I was 28 and he was 35, so pregnant with 2nd I am 32 and he is 39 😊
Out of my friends they are just having their first now so not much real difference really!

CremeEggThief · 13/04/2019 20:56

I was 24 and XH was 27. Younger than everyone in our NCT group and younger than most of our family and friends who have children.

Wineismyfav9 · 13/04/2019 20:56

18 , now have a happy healthy 9 month old and she is the best thing to happen to me, makes you grow up and want to be the best person u can for ur little baby❤️👩‍👧

Aveeno2017 · 13/04/2019 21:00

I was 38 when I had my daughter...maybe in hindsight I would have had her a little earlier.
