Nickname for baby in utero?

I just wondered if it was just me - but did you give your dd or ds a nickname whilst it was in utero? My dh and I used to refer to the baby as the bert.

yes we did but it changed depending on size of my bump

Schmozer · 10/09/2004 13:55

DH calls ours L'il Pup. Am now hoping for an actual pup just for the look on DH's face.

Titania · 10/09/2004 13:55

ds1 was bump
dd was peanut
ds2 was jelly bean

Skate · 10/09/2004 13:57

We called ours 'the bubbit' or 'bubs' each time! Not sure where it came from!

Papillon · 10/09/2004 13:57

Chandra · 10/09/2004 13:59

Speck

Tomato up untill the 20 week scan when he became 'The boy', well to DP he has anyway!

Ronniebaby · 10/09/2004 14:03

My DS was known as Toadie, he jumped about/moved almost like a frog, but froggie sounded horrid, so toadie he was, and it went with our surname.

This one is known as Roo (as in Kangeroo or Munchkin, as the scan showed it either eating or drinking as its stomach was filling up)

So Metrobaby you aint alone

NomDePlume · 10/09/2004 14:04

DD was 'The Prawn', as that's what DS2 said the foetus in the Miriam Stoppard book looked like ! She still gets called Prawn every now and again, mainly when she's tired and becomes 'Yawny Prawn'

beansprout · 10/09/2004 14:05

Beanie for us, although I do have a friend who calls hers "Fletcher"!

Bellie · 10/09/2004 14:11

ours is monkey

beansmum · 10/09/2004 14:18

ds was always bean and unfortunately its kind of stuck. he's still called bean now at nearly 4 months. he hasn't grown into his real name yet.

mazzymcg · 10/09/2004 14:19

Dh is insisting on calling it Persephone (dd has a favourite book featuring a little girl called Persephone Brown) - dd has also picked up on this - I can't disuade them sadly...

beansprout · 10/09/2004 14:34

Beansmum - I can't see our Bean being called anything else for a while either! I tend to think of any other name as a legal necessity, as in my heart, this child is just "Bean"!!

edam · 10/09/2004 14:55

Ds was sproglet, for some reason I can't recall. Since birth has become pickle/pickle boy/ dolphin boy (when making really high-pitched noises). We do call him by his real name too, though ? I was always called by a nickname and didn't discover what my real name is until I was 7! Major trauma, thought my parents had been deliberately deceiving me and laughing at my expense (you know how literally 7 year olds see the world). So beware over-using nicknames...

Tommy · 10/09/2004 14:58

DS1 was Bobby and DS2 was Lionel - some people actually thought Lionel was going to be his real name..... (it isn't BTW )

catgirl · 10/09/2004 14:59

Casper - like the friendly ghost - that is what his 20 wk scan looked like. Had forgotten that until just now, and now I am smiling at the memory - thank you!

Bibiboo · 10/09/2004 15:14

Ours has been 'Boo' or 'the Boo' since we found out.Reasons:

It was a bit of a surprise, so quite literally, "Boo!"
Boo is okay if it's a lad (Boo Radley from TKAM)
Boo is also okay for a lil lady (Boo from Monsters Inc)

I am stumped for other names, we've gone through all our faves and come out the other end disliking most of them, so I can see the poor chap/lass ending up with Boo...

Isitonlyme · 10/09/2004 15:17

"Bumpling". Still occasionally refer to him as that!

babster · 10/09/2004 15:31

Dd1 has named no3 Billy... which I quite like!

mckenzie · 10/09/2004 15:36

my DS1 was 'Dennis' while in my tummy. My friends third child was called Harry Potter while just a bump by her other 2 children. Thye of course wanted to carry on calling him Harry Potter once he was born and my friend had a hard job getting them to call him by the name they'd chosen.
My bump this time round still doesn't have aname (i'm nearly 16 weeks) which is rather sad. I'll have to come up with something over the weekend.

kirstyk · 10/09/2004 15:51

I call my little bump'chicken' and no it hasn't anything to do with that dreadful girl off this yrs Big brother.

kalex · 10/09/2004 15:54

DS, was called SnuglyFred, from a book of poems DD had, which she loved.

It took about 6-7 days to actually think of him as his real name rather the SnuglyFred
