I just wondered if it was just me - but did you give your dd or ds a nickname whilst it was in utero? My dh and I used to refer to the baby as the bert.

Well sad as it sounds, we were trying to think of a name for the bump while sat in traffic, dh looked out of window for ideas and saw a DHL van! Yes you guessed it.

We had Button for DD1, and this one is also called Beanie.

LittleB · 13/09/2004 12:38

Ours is called Plop, after the baby owl in the childrens book 'The Owl who was afraid of the dark' a fav of mine and dh.

Ds was blob. I'd previously had a miscarrage so had an early scan at 6 weeks. On the scan he was only a blob so the name stuck throughout the pregnancey.

Ds1 was Pingu (sex unknown prior to birth)
Ds2 was Pabsy (he was stillborn and we remember him as Pabsy as well as Tom, ds1 chose the nickname)
Dd was (Sweet) Pea and is still called that a lot.
Some friends called their ds1 Marmaduke and after he was born she had a HELL of a job persuading her dh not to stick with this name...

miranda2 · 14/09/2004 13:33

Ds was nemol (for complex reasons!!!). Current foetus is 'Thing 2'.
some friends called their bump 'Barney' - when he was born prematurely it just stuck and that is actually his name now!

prefernot · 14/09/2004 13:41

Don't know how or why but we called dd 'fetus' when she was in the womb. We found it kind of amusing but some of our friends gave us weird looks.

Rowlers · 14/09/2004 13:43

When we were discussing names with my (welsh) mum, we went through quite a few welsh names. She jokingly suggested Buddug (sounds different in welsh but quite funny if you pronounce it as you see it)and it stuck for the bump. Funny, I was worried we would not be able to think of baby as anything else, but as soon as she arrived, the name disappeared completely. It really did describe the bump, not the actually baby! Does that make sense?

DS was known as Bump. Not too imaginative of us! And for a few days after he was born we were still calling him Bump. Luckily we got over that!

TraceyP · 14/09/2004 13:53

Our dd was Strog (dh's nickname is Steggy - as in Stegosaurus, as in dinosaur, as in old), so Steggy's Sprog became Strog.

northstar · 14/09/2004 13:57

Ours will be the superbean from the Heinz beans advert which was shown on tv about 100 times last week while i was trying to find the words to tell dp he existed!!!

logic · 15/09/2004 18:24

Our ds was "Dobbin" because my mother was annoying me with baby name demands from day one so we said if it's twins they will be called Robin and Dobbin - just to shut her up
The in-laws called him "Spud" because that's what he looked like on the scan - a King Edward apparently!

I've just found out that I'm pregnant again and already dh is calling this one "goose". I've no idea why.

Grizzly · 15/09/2004 21:39

Ds began as blob, as I had an early scan at 6 weeks (IVF pregnancy) once I got to 12 weeks we adapted this to Bob, as it sounded better. We then settled on Bobby as we didn't know if baby was male or female. After DS was born I thought of him as Bobby for a couple of weeks, but eventually settled on his 'real' name.

Bibiboo · 16/09/2004 09:57

LOL at Buddug! Cute!

Brighteyes · 18/09/2004 20:45

Dp has named ours Squishy Bob. Don't ask me to explain, don't even thing he knows where its come from.

DelGirl · 18/09/2004 20:47

bab at the moment tho don't ask me where it's come from. Oh yes, I texted a friend after my scan and said bab instead of baby. Not quite sure it suits tho.

ds was "the baby" (highly original).dd was "crumb" - when I was first pregnant I told dh she was the size of a bean, but when we looked it up in a book we realised she was much smaller,so crumb it was.It didn't last when she was born weighing 8lbs.This one (29 weeks) is affectionately known as "parry",which is short for parasite (dh's idea).I do hope it won't stick, although the way we are going with trying to agree on names.....
