Have mentioned this on the Sept. thread already, but what do you all prefer out of Freya and Flora? I'm finding it really hard to decide! We both love Freya but it's getting really popular now and that puts me off, as I grew up with a really common name, which I hated... I think I almost prefer Flora but is it too unusual? And it seems like a name that's adorable on a 3 year old but odd on a grown woman, would you agree? DH says Flora just reminds him of the margarine, but that doesn't really bother me... interested in what the masses think

Freya has been a dead common name name here for a few years, there are Freyas everywhere.
Having daid that they are also quite a few Floras
I would choose Flora.

Budababe · 15/07/2007 08:56

Any girl who had a bit of a reputation was known as "Flora" when I was a teenager - i.e., spreads easily. Horrible I know and it is a lovely name but I wouldn't want to set my DD up for that possibility.

I like Freya but it does seem very popular which would be enough to put me off.

How about Fiona?

Tinkjon · 15/07/2007 10:45

Hmmm, this 'spreads easily' thing does seem to be fairly well-known. I thought it was just a joke that one person came up with but I've heard it a few times now (and it was SIL's first reaction too) so it does seem to be a popular playground thing. That definitely does put me off

freya. i think butter.

j20baby · 15/07/2007 10:52

i like Flora

j20baby · 15/07/2007 10:53

oops, just seen the 'spreads easily', maybe Freya then, bloody shame, but what can you do!

Gemy · 15/07/2007 20:49

I like Freya but then I would since my DD is called Freya. If it helps, she is a very sweet girly girl but I'm sure she would be regardless.

Flora is also nice, it didn't make me think of margerine and I think it's also very pretty.

I'm no help at all am I?

I am onto baby number 2 and wondering about names: here is my shortlist.

-Zara (I know it makes everyone think of the shop but can't help but like it)
-Ruby
-Lottie
-Gracie
-Lexa

Tinkjon · 15/07/2007 22:08

Gemy, Lottie was one of the names I decided on a while back, but I then thought it was only suitable for a little girl - I can imagine someone of 3 years old being an adorable Lottie, but not a woman of 30. Maybe Charlotte, to then give her the option of using either. Ruby and Zara are great, not so keen on the others (not that you were necessarily asking for opinions though!)

Freya Freya Freya

Deffo not Flora. Not Florian, you are right MrsScavo it is a boys' name.

Also like Francesca.

how funny - I know a mum and baby, mumis Flora and baby is Freya!! Personally I like Flora best despite the margarine associations

Meglet · 16/07/2007 14:59

Flora is prettiest! There are lots of Freya's already. Although she will get the margarine jokes

charmingMyrtle · 16/07/2007 15:06

Freya is a lovely name.
Flora is ok.

I like Zara and Lottie best from the other list. Think Grace is a prettier name than Gracie. Don't care much for Lexa - maybe cause I'm just not used to hearing it. Ruby no.
-Ruby
-Lottie
-Gracie
-Lexa
