Have mentioned this on the Sept. thread already, but what do you all prefer out of Freya and Flora? I'm finding it really hard to decide! We both love Freya but it's getting really popular now and that puts me off, as I grew up with a really common name, which I hated... I think I almost prefer Flora but is it too unusual? And it seems like a name that's adorable on a 3 year old but odd on a grown woman, would you agree? DH says Flora just reminds him of the margarine, but that doesn't really bother me... interested in what the masses think

Ellbell-Fiorentina is a pizza as far as I'm concerned!

Flora is OK but am with MsLucy in thinking Florence is nicer...

Jojay · 12/07/2007 13:48

Love Flora, but

'Spreads easily' and 'Interflora' could have unfortunate connotations as a teenager.

Still love it though

Chelseamum · 12/07/2007 23:13

Flora 1o points

Freya o points

Chelseamum · 12/07/2007 23:17

fiorentina is also an Italian footie team from Florence

BocoBeak · 12/07/2007 23:19

My dds middle name is Florence, love it. Prefer Flora to Freya. Know loads of Freyas now.

hayley2u · 13/07/2007 09:28

freya is muc icer flora reminds me of butter

runawayquickly · 13/07/2007 09:36

I have a Flora, so I am biased about the name. Then I only have ever eaten REAL butter. I shorten it to Florrie all the time and no one has ever shouted FIMBLE! (to my knowledge).

butterbeer · 13/07/2007 09:46

Flora -- there seem to be a lot of Freyas around. And DH won't let me use Flora, so someone else should...

toadstool · 13/07/2007 19:00

I like Flora, Florence, Floresta, Floriana. I like Fleur too (have met a couple of grown-up Fleurs, both lovely).

Tinkjon · 13/07/2007 19:23

Well done everybody, you've got the tally now swinging in Flora's favour - that might convince DH Re. the margarine connotation, sure it's there alright, but I just don't think it's something that kids will really make an association about (unless you have experienced differently, runawayquickly?) I'd have thought that by the time kids are old enough to actually be aware of that as a brand name then they're past the age of teasing about names anyway.

prefer flora

flavia???

MamaMaiasaura · 13/07/2007 22:22

Freja/Freya

Was my choice if ds(7) was a girl but my sister named her dd it 4 weeks younger than ds so wont be using it for the next one

fees · 13/07/2007 23:26

Flora for sure!!

runawayquickly · 14/07/2007 09:17

The margarine thing is undeniably there, but I have so many people say 'what a beautiful name' - it's a talking point in a nice way. Even when she's Florrie, little kids think it's cool. 'What, like the Fimble??', they gasp, because at 3, that's like being named after a celeb! So far no one has fallen on the floor laughing or made bad jokes. Go for Flora! Or failing that, Lurpak is also lovely. (Only joking.)

runawayquickly · 14/07/2007 09:23

Just had another thought. What about Florian? Hey, fact fans - it's Dido's real name. Right, I'm off to scrape the inside of my oven after last night's pizza disaster. Won't be bothering you again with my Flora ramblings.

MrsScavo · 14/07/2007 09:25

I thought Florian was a boys name

Ambi · 14/07/2007 20:38

Freya is gorge, agree with hubby re Flora, soz

tissy · 14/07/2007 20:48

Flora

Troutpout · 14/07/2007 20:53

Flora

lomondgal · 14/07/2007 22:13

I like Flora, used to work with one and she always got complemented on her name.

Tinkjon · 15/07/2007 08:45

Runaway, I don't really like Florian - sounds a bit of a made-up name to me Re. you saying that you get lots of compliments on it, that's exactly the sort of reaction we get with DD1s name - it's unusual but not wacky or unheard of. We really want the same kind of name for this baby too and there are so few names which fit the 'unusual yet not obscure' category...
