@Delilah7 oh what a pain, where about are you again, I guess you don't have a choice of hospital?

@stormtrooperjulian ah no! Fingers crossed you find an alternative. We missed a lot of the news but saw the headlines - have the government now advised against all travel? Good your insurance covers things too.

We just got back from Norway yesterday, a lovely cruise around the Fjords. It was crazily warm there for April so we were spoilt with the weather.

Having a very lazy PJ day today 😊

@EltzBee east Anglia. I guess I could change but it would mean a longer journey which I'm not really looking for when I'm in labour lol

EltzBee · 28/04/2019 16:00

@Delilah7 fingers crossed they pull their finger out soon then :)

Bean having some good wriggles today after been quieter for a couple

@Delilah7 are you using the Rosie? You're definitely not failing your little one! You're being an incredible mummy-to-be! Xx

Delilah7 · 28/04/2019 17:45

@EltzBee we can but hope!

@MrsR16 unfortunately not. West Suffolk hospital! Xxx

MrsR16 · 28/04/2019 17:58

@Delilah7 that's where I was born! I'm using Peterborough - heard good and bad things about them, so we shall see! Xx

EltzBee · 29/04/2019 08:13

Morning ladies, how's everyone today?

Monday morning and I'm actually feeling alright, waiting at the station for train to work. First day back after holiday so fingers crossed not everything has gone to pot whilst I've been away! 🙈

@MrsC87 she's at 34weeks now, c section booked in for 39w but I suspect they'll do it sooner -nothing to do with the GD but due to other risk factors from a previous birth. I think the main challenge is keeping on track of blood sugars - she's testing regularly with a monitor the hospital have loaned to her and keeping up the right diet. She had it in her previous pregnancy too, and no issues with my little nephew. I don't know if it runs in families, so not sure if I'll get it, though I don't think my mum did. I'm currently enjoying all the carbs while I can though 😁

MrsC87 · 29/04/2019 10:32

@GemmaJen I've been to the diabetic nurse this morning and feel so much better about it all. Also did a blood sugar test there and then and levels were normal, just need to keep with the healthy diet and monitor it. I feel much more safe now with the extra monitoring.
Yes enjoy it all now, eat a big fat burger and fries for me 😝😂
Good Luck to your sister, how lovely you share your pregnancies 🥰

EltzBee · 29/04/2019 10:38

@MrsC87 glad you got on well with the diabetic nurse this morning. I've got my GD test 23rd May.

Is it true you can't eat any carbs?! :o :o or is it just a normal 'balanced' diet?

OP posts:
MrsC87 · 29/04/2019 11:01

Thankyou @EltzBee do you mean before the test, cause I had fish and chips with curry sauce the night before 😂
Once diagnosed they say not to cut them out but have very little. You also should have healthy fats like eggs, cheese, milk, nuts with the carb to slow down the sugar release in the carb. But it's not that restricting, I'm still enjoying a treat, sugar free jelly with full fat cream, or strawberries and clotted cream 😍

EltzBee · 29/04/2019 12:10

@MrsC87 oh I meant if you do have GD.

Oh that doesn't sound too bad then, I did know that full fat dairy is better with carbs because the fats slow the release down, so it's good to know it just following that 'sensible' advise :D thanks.

Mm I really want chips and curry sauce now, damn it! lol

My GD test isn't til 23rd May, I just went and popped though all my appointments in to my diary to let my boss know, and I have 4 lots of appointments between 25 weeks and 28 weeks for GP, GD, Whooping Cough and Midwife Blush

MrsC87 · 29/04/2019 16:28

@EltzBee I feel the same, always at the hospital at the minute. Yeh the diet isn't too bad, the healthy fats make up for the loss of sugar.

Can I ask when are people thinking of going on maternity? At the moment I'm leaving on 37+1 but now I may be induced early due to GD, I'm worried I'm leaving it a bit late. Would 36 weeks be better? @Delilah7 what are you doing re maternity leave?

EltzBee · 29/04/2019 16:44

@MrsC87 yeah it does seem like I've got a couple of weeks with nothing then it's going to be pretty frequent!

I've been trying to work out when to go, I need to look at what holiday I have...I'm thinking of trying to leave it as 'late' as I can and just use what holiday I have to get to finish before I'm due. I'm not sure what happens in that case though if baby comes early, I assume I'd get paid any outstanding leave or allowed to carry it over..hmm

I'm not sure what the odds are for being induced early due to GD @MrsC87 - presumably they would still wait til after 37 weeks though? As I understand it, they count full term as between 37 and 42 weeks right? So confusing!

OP posts:
Delilah7 · 29/04/2019 17:03

@MrsC87 I've got 10 days holiday before hand.
So baby is due 12th July but I actually finish work 31st May due to holiday and then my maternity is from the 17th June.

However depending on what they find out about my liver and placenta this could ALL change lol.

BostonFern · 29/04/2019 17:47

Evening ladies.

@MrsC87 glad to hear you feel reassured by today's appointment. I'm quite a way off having to decide on when to go on mat leave yet, but being a teacher will probably put the first day after October half term down- I should be 35 or 36 weeks by then depending on when the break is.

@Delilah7 How are you feeling today?

I've had my worst day of nausea yet, retching over the toilet but thankfully not been sick (and very grateful that I seem to be getting off lightly in that respect). Very tired as it's been the first day of the new term. Also think I might be starting to get some sciatic pain as it seems very tender in that area at the moment and I'm getting very slow at walking at the end of the day. Can it start this early (9+3)? One a positive I have my next scan on Saturday, so I'm counting down the days to that!

mrsof20118 · 29/04/2019 18:16

Wondering what the risk is if someone has a high sugar diet but not tested for gd? I eat so much fruit but also have a sneaky chocolate bar daily and love my carbs.

I plan to finish on 19th July and due 31st. Already counting down the days. I have the odd day booked off here and there to shorten the weeks a bit x

MrsC87 · 30/04/2019 08:02

So blood glucose levels are high this morning so can see me heading down the medication route.
I think I'm going to go at 36 weeks, my head is just shot now and if I'm induced it'll be between 37-39 weeks.
I think you can ask for the test @mrsof20118 but normally they pick it up through wee test and your growth chart. Once they start measuring bump, if there are any fluctuations in growth you will be sent for a growth scan and then GD test. Don't worry about the diet as it's all to do with the placenta producing a hormone that stops insulin doing its job, so regardless of what you eat it's just chance whether you get it. It's progressively worse from weeks 28 to Birth.

MrsR16 · 30/04/2019 08:56

I'm waiting for a call from the early pregnancy unit... had a small bleed this morning and I'm now petrified 😢

ChaosMoon · 30/04/2019 09:10

Big hugs @MrsR16. I know it feels horrendous but try to keep in mind that this is really common and it's happened to loads of us on here. Me included and DD is fine. I'll keep everything crossed that you're in the lucky majority and everything is ok.

💐 For everyone. Keeping up had become a nigh on impossible task.

stormtrooperjulian · 30/04/2019 10:44

@EltzBee yeah the government advised against travel. I’ve worked out an alternative plan though so we’re still going to have a lovely holiday, just not exactly what we originally planned!

@MrsC87 I plan to work til the last minute, I want as much leave as possible with my baby so I don’t want to waste it

@BostonFern there are several stretches that can help with sciatica if it does start to kick in. I used to suffer from it regularly due to an old back injury but strangely pregnancy seems to have cured it so far which is very unexpected Confused

@MrsR16 get some rest and try to stay calm, as ChaosMoon said it’s very common to bleed in early pregnancy so hopefully everything is fine. Fingers crossed for you.

I’ve got my scan today, I’m only 19+1 but was supposed to be going away tomorrow so they had to squeeze me in.

EltzBee · 30/04/2019 11:00

@MrsC87 hope your sugar levels stabilise, if not the medications are there to help - GD can happen to anyone irrespective of diet, those pesky hormones!

@MrsR16 sending big hugs; hoping you're like the ladies here who have had small bleeds which can be quite normal, please try not to panic and you've done the right thing calling them xx

@BostonFern I found the first trimester I had lots of odd aches and pains so they definitely can start early, try to think about your posture and stretch gently where you can (it's hard but does sort of help if you've been in one position for a while). The dry retching and sickness are awful :( I've not been sick for like 9 days now and it's amazing, I'm now 22 and a half weeks so I really hope yours doesn't last as long as mine has! xx

Just checked my holiday and I actually have 20 days left to book for this calendar year, which my boss already said I can use, so I think I will use that to finish 4 weeks before due date and start maternity leave on due date maybe? Need to decide in next 2 weeks eeeek.

OP posts:
Delilah7 · 30/04/2019 11:21

@BostonFern been better. Awaiting my hospital appointment Thursday for CTG monitoring and bloods etc. Thank you for asking x x

@MrsR16 thinking of you Hun, let us know xxx

MrsR16 · 30/04/2019 12:17

@ChaosMoon @stormtrooperjulian @EltzBee @Delilah7 thanks ladies. I managed to speak to one of the midwives there and she didn't seem overly concerned because it was a one off and it wasn't very much. She did say that I need to try and get to 7 weeks, as they won't scan me beforehand 😕 kinda reassured, but now worried about the next week and a day! This pregnancy malarkey is worse than TTC! 😂 xx

EltzBee · 30/04/2019 12:54

@MrsR16 glad you managed to speak to a midwife; the reason they usually say they won't scan before 7 weeks is that things are so tiny and there isn't a heartbeat before 6 or so weeks (and dates aren't always accurate as it depends so much on when they implant and things). So please don't worry because of that - it's just that before that, even if everything's perfect, they wouldn't be able to necessary say that, if that makes sense?

Look after yourself and try not to worry; if it happens again do ring them though hun. But hopefully it was just a one-off!
