My top tip - get a manual breast pump - if you need one on day 4 to relieve the engorgment then amazon prime is not fast enough. If you don't need it then fine - but not expensive and I wished I'd had one sooner. I tired to hand express but the pain as too much and I was getting really worked up trying to do it. We got the nature bond one from amazon ) £13.99

Also when it happens don't try and wear a bra or top. I wore leggings and a loose cardi open - had baby in just a nappy and covered us both with blankets so we could use the opportunity for skin to skin and lots and lots of feeding to remove the engorged milk - definitely helped me feel better

@Delilah7 ah okay so he's basically bang on then! Blimey it sounds so big so early on eek! I'm 18+3 today and apparently on my app Bean is between 5oz and 6oz, so it's crazy to think in the next 6 weeks or so they're going to grow like 25+ ounces :o :o :o that's insane!!! No wonder I always feel hungry lol.

@EltzBee I've always used that as a guide but they obviously do vary. That's what the ultrasound lady said to me anyways. I have a midwife appointment Wednesday so I'm gonna ask her 😂😂 x

Cookie0508 · 01/04/2019 15:11

@LuckyKitty13 Aww congratulations and well done you!! xx

@Delilah7 what a lovely mothers day gift!

Ah we've been so busy recently, I need a good sleep! Have ordered our pram, should be coming in the next few days. Trying to work out where to put it! Just had another check up and baby's heart is beating away strong but he's quite a wriggler! He wouldn't sit still for the doctor!

I'm getting properly poked all the time now! I swear he's gonna be a kick boxer!

ChaosMoon · 01/04/2019 15:30

That's so helpful @LuckyKitty13. I ordered a pump much like that one the other day but want sure how much use it would get. Now I feel I made a good choice! The cardi thing is good advice too. Do you feel like you've gotten into a good rhythm with breast feeding now or are you still finding your way?

My own is still living at my MIL's due to DM's superstitions @Cookie0508. Will have to worry about where it lives when baby gets here! Listening to the heartbeat is always so lovely. Even when they do give us and the Dr the run around! I guess we'll have to get used to that. 😂

mrsof20118 · 01/04/2019 17:15

Trying to catch up on all the messages as on holiday. Woke up this morning to a teeny bit of leakage on the boobs. Anyone else experienced this so early on? I'm 23 weeks tomorrow.

LuckyKitty13 · 01/04/2019 18:19

@ChaosMoon I also wore and still wear the same type of outgrown at night as we are co-sleeping (safely following the lullaby trust guidelines) and I do all night feeds laying down with a tiny rechargeable night light (from ikea shaped like a hedgehog) that lives on the corner of the mattress. Day 8 now and definitely feel we've got the breastfeeding cracked- her latch is lovely, I've had lots of support from breast feeding friends and the midwives visiting. I feel baby is really learning now and latches herself at night with little intervention from me (although I always check it with the little light!). I recommend the lansinoh nipple cream after every feed from the very start too. The first few days my nipples were a little uncomfortable but not painful, and (sorry TMI) but a little layer of the skin came off as like white dead skin - this didn't really hurt but I thought it meant the latch was wrong, but this wasn't true, this midwife said it was my nipples adapting, and now they are perfect again.

Just feed and feed and feed as much as possible - I tried and still try to get her to feed hourly to get my milk to come in and get supply up. Skin to skin for several hours morning and evening, and just focus on that feeding if you're keen to breastfeed. I feel that early effort has made ALL the difference.

Cookie0508 · 01/04/2019 18:23

Ahh @ChaosMoon it's such a lovely reassuring sound to hear the heartbeat!

This is all helpful info @LuckyKitty13! I really hope I can breastfeed when the time comes. Glad she's taken to it so well :)

LuckyKitty13 · 01/04/2019 18:34

@Cookie0508 My doula said many women give up on day 4 because the hormone crash and engorgment is too much. BUT that will happen whether you breast feed or not, and I promise within 3 days you will feel totally different. You need absolute positive determination and good quality support and you'll do it. My midwives were prepared to visit every day if I needed it, and I certainly had face to face support every day from days 3-5 and constant texting every day from my doula and breastfeeding friends. And of course my husband was wonderful when I was so down. He never suggested a bottle, and told me I was doing fantastically. You can and will do it!!!

Cookie0508 · 01/04/2019 18:43

Bless you @LuckyKitty13 thanks :) I may not be able to yet (due to past operations) but I'm really hoping I can. They've certainly ballooned anyway! I will try!

Delilah7 · 01/04/2019 18:56

worried now about babies weight :( my friends 28 weeks and has GD and her babies weighing 2lb 11oz.
Im already 1lb 13oz at 25 weeks and a few days :( worrying if he's larger than normal...

Crossfitgirl · 01/04/2019 19:25

@delilah7 why do you think he's too big? Surely they'd have said at the scan. Your friend is a full 1lb bigger, and she's not at the same stage as you... Also scans are very unreliable at estimating weight. They can be about 20% off either way. I wouldn't compare. Just ask the midwife at next appt.

Well I have definitely got some kind of pregnancy rage. Or maybe I'm just fed up. I totally snapped at a patient and hung up on them on Sunday for being really rude to me. But then why should I put up with that when I was nothing but polite?
Usually I'd just suck it up but I was like, nope. Not tolerating this. See ya.

Then tonight, I have annual leave til Thursday but despite that, my work colleague Facebook messages me even after work hours to ask me work related stuff. FUCK OFF! DO IT YOURSELF OR ASK ONE OF THE MANY PEOPLE THAT ARE ACTUALLY AT FUCKING WORK!!!

Cannot wait til mat leave! 3 months to go!

Poor DH is getting snapped at too. I was a little miffed that he hinted he was getting me something for mother's day, then actually got me nothing. Don't hint then and get my hopes up...

Anyone else feeling far more touchy than normal?

Delilah7 · 01/04/2019 19:26

@Crossfitgirl ok

Delilah7 · 01/04/2019 19:28

@Crossfitgirl I will just say back that I think considering I'm a first time mum I'm allowed to have these worries. Yes she's a few weeks ahead but you do compare if a friend is pregnant. 👍🏼

BostonFern · 01/04/2019 19:31

I just typed out a reply, and with this first trimester tiredness forgot to post it and then the app lost it 🤦🏼‍♀️

@Delilah7 what a lovely Mother's Day scan!

Delilah7 · 01/04/2019 19:31

@BostonFern thank you! Xx

MrsC87 · 01/04/2019 19:41

@Delilah7 I had a midwife appointment today and asked about the size of my bump as lots of people are saying I'm big. She reassured me that bumps are relative to each individual so I may look big but could actually be small.
did sonographer make any comment? Totally natural to worry, I think anything can become a worry as we're first time Mums. I still google lots of worries I have 🙈
Have a good chat with your midwife and hopefully she'll give you some reassurance.
If I don't have anymore scans I assume they track babies weight by measuring bump?

Delilah7 · 01/04/2019 19:43

@MrsC87 sonographer just said average for everything. Didn't say too big didn't say too small. I think due to it being my first proper long term pregnancy I'm awfully over thinking everything! plus I do like my chocolate biscuits so probably conscious I might of been having too many! Yes is it fundal height they measure? Xxx

MrsC87 · 01/04/2019 19:54

Oh well I'm sure I'm going to get/have GD, the amount of sweet things I eat is unreal, can't help myself! That's probably why bump has grown.
It's hard but try not to worry, 2 sleeps and you'll be able to ask midwife. Everything going well otherwise?
Yes think that's what it's called, apparently they start measuring at 28 weeks.
I booked onto the NHS free birth classes today, they start in May. Have you thought about them/been offered them by midwife?

And yes, @Crossfitgirl I call it the pregnancy rage. People at work know to avoid me during such times. It's settled now but about 20-23 it was at its peak 🙈

I also think working whilst counting down for maternity can be a tricky time. I am currently training my maternity cover and I genuinely don't have any resentment, I'm glad I'm going!! However I just literally don't have the patience. One minute I'm backing off and winding down for maternity training the new girl then the next I'm in full swing working my tits off. Roll on 37 weeks and June when it's my last day 😆

sunshine1987 · 01/04/2019 20:47

@Crossfitgirl Hope you enjoy your days off this week 😘

Delilah7 · 01/04/2019 20:53

@MrsC87 seems to be. Apart from the SPD with the whole crutches stuff 😂😂 ah ok! Well I look forward to being measured! Yes! I've got my first one in June I think... month before my due date! Xx

Crossfitgirl · 01/04/2019 20:59

@delilah7 that's not very nice I was trying to be helpful! Sorry if my advice isn't good enough for you, I didn't say it wasn't OK to worry I was trying to help you not to worry!!! I've read a lot about scans and weights because my friend at work was measuring large and they told her her baby was going to be 9lbs plus, but he was 7lbs when he was born. They can't always define the actual weight from the measurements which I thought would he reassuring for you to know. And asking the midwife is what i would be saying to anyone on here with a genuine worry about the baby, which yours clearly is as you're worried about gestational diabetes. I thought that what I'd put would actually stop you worrying as much.....

Sorry for trying to be nice 😞

Crossfitgirl · 01/04/2019 21:06

@delilah7 me asking why you are worried was a genuine question, as in is your weight meant to be too big for how far on you are? I didnt mean it as in, like whats the point worrying. I think context can really miss the point a bit on here and when you cant hear the tone of what's written it's easy to take it differently to how it's meant but I'm genuinely upset you thought i was being off as I was actually trying to help.
X

Crossfitgirl · 01/04/2019 21:08

Also, I have been eating at least 3 puddings a day. I made brownies last weekend for a work thing but as I was off sick I couldn't take them. Had to eat them all myself 😂GD is definitely coming for me too lol x

Delilah7 · 01/04/2019 21:29

@Crossfitgirl I totally agreeing and the snapping thing so just happened so I apologise 😂 so don't know through texts and messages how people mean things. I guess I just thought people were getting abit fed up of my over worrying lol. Thank you though, I do understand what you mean. I can't help but eat sugar. Weight is average from what she said but I'm just an over thinker xx
