Inappropriate things people say when you announce

Just for fun chats, I'm not actually offended by any of these (luckily!) ...

My brother said "I thought you were looking chubby" - TBF he isn't wrong, I was in the peak of first-trimester bloat.

My boss at work "Oh wow, was it planned?"

My colleague "I thought you've been eating loads more than usual, I said to Sally in Accounts!"

My aunt - "omg you're going to be a giant whale in the height of summer"

My Zumba teacher "Make sure you use a good body cream, she sister's middle was absolutely DESTROYED by stretch marks!"

Anyone got any to share?

My ex boss - yeah we expected that since you just got married.
( It was 6 months after we got married and I was only 4 weeks in- my job involved lifting so had to announce)

GabbyGal · 04/03/2019 15:16

Stand in for my pregnancy yoga teacher when I was 17 weeks - Are you sure it’s not twins?

Lots of people - Was it planned? Bloody hate this one, I think it’s really rude to ask unless it’s a close friend which I don’t mind.

Also it’s 2019 and every single person I’ve interacted with in the maternity hospital has referred to my partner as my husband. We’re not married, I could be a lesbian for all they know, surely in this day and age they should stick to “partner”!

Wedgiecar58 · 04/03/2019 15:34

@GabbyGal Omg me too! Absolutely NO judgement from me but I think because you're not married that might be why a lot of people have asked you. My friend found something similar. I am married and it was only my boss that asked. Weird question, especially from someone that employs you!

'I did think you looked a bit shit' (I definitely did)
'was it planned'
'Well I hope it works out better than last time' - (it was genuinely meant well by a very awkward colleague after a MMC last year)
'Is that good news?' - (eh?)

Newname12 · 04/03/2019 15:39

You don’t have long to do something about it...

My mother.

MustBeAWeasly · 04/03/2019 15:45

Planned and tried for dd with my dh. First thing someone at work said was wow, was it wanted?!

myotherbagisgucci · 04/03/2019 16:00

My dad: "Hi love, have you had the baby yet or do you still have a big fat belly".

I'm currently 38+4 with DC2. 🙄

Wedgiecar58 · 04/03/2019 16:06

Close relative: is it too late to do anything about it?

flowersaremyfave · 04/03/2019 16:24

Again!!! Said to me last week by my family lol well it is baby no 6 so it doesn't surprise me.

"Have you not got tv?" I hate this one with a passion 😤 I just say "of course!..baby was conceived whilst we watched episode 7 of season 4 of GOT

Angelmiracle · 04/03/2019 16:30

DC2 - "Oh you'll be hoping for a girl" 😑 yes we couldn't conceive for 5 years and were only hoping for a certain sex if we did 😬

Chocolateheaven123 · 04/03/2019 16:31

My friend when I told her I was expecting my first child: oh great, another mate I'll hardly ever see now Hmm

My Gran after telling her I was expecting #2: I thought you were looking terrible, very pale and rundown Grin
To be fair, I had much worse sickness this time and we had a steady stream of different illnesses/viruses in the house for several weeks so I probably did look like crap. She s actually over the moon for me and can't wait to meet her new great grandchild :)

magpie24 · 04/03/2019 16:50

Loads of comments about me being a "young mum" - I was pregnant aged 29...

Ovacado23 · 04/03/2019 17:06

Telling someone you worked with youre actually ttc "Youve got one of each you dont need any more, youre a fool if you do!" - sorry Babs bit too late for that - told her i was pregnant last week. The look on her face. Vile woman.

reallybadidea · 04/03/2019 17:08

"Oh, I thought you were just still fat from the last one" said by the rudest woman in the world, who worked in the local corner shop. I went to Sainsbury's from then on.

Soosiesoo · 04/03/2019 17:23

Upon telling one of my close friends I was pregnant with my first child ..'' oh, who else knows?''. Then proceeded to go on about not being told first. Hmm

WeeBean · 04/03/2019 17:36

One of my bosses when I phoned to tell them I was pregnant and had been signed off work "no f*cking way!" 😂😂

They'd all been at my wedding 3 weeks before and I was always considered "the cert" for after work drinks so was a bit of a shock for them, was planned though!

Hadalifeonce · 04/03/2019 17:38

My mother: Bloody silly cow!

MitziK · 04/03/2019 17:38

Literally all of my XCF's family to him - 'Are you sure it's yours?'

Whooomp · 04/03/2019 17:44

One that always made me feel a bit uncomfortable was when people found out I was pregnant and then turned to my partner and said, ooft, well done mate mHmm

OutingOutlander · 04/03/2019 17:47

"How long are you period cycles?" -MIL

"I hope it's a girl, I hate boys, they're nasty but girls are wonderful. If it's a boy I'd get rid of it if I were you." - OH's family friend

We have an 8 week old son and adore him, and I've avoided this woman since.

Bakingabean · 04/03/2019 18:19

Senior manager - "how did that happen?"... errrr mate you've got 2 of your own, how do you think it happened?!

Guy I manage - "how do I get your job when you go on maternity leave?"... !!

Walklikeanegyptian1234 · 04/03/2019 18:30

Acolleague said to me with a look of complete shock ‘but you aren’t married!’ 😂

hiyahen · 04/03/2019 19:31

When I told people I was due on Christmas Eve, most said 'well that wasn't very well planned was it?' Or 'Oh that baby isn't going to thank you for having a birthday around Christmas!'

Wedgiecar58 · 04/03/2019 20:24

People are idiots!!!
