No certainty yet, but at my scan at 13 weeks the sonographer was pretty confident I'm having a boy. After years of trying, I'm over the moon to have a baby at all, and a healthy one at that, but I can't deny that I was hoping a little bit for a girl. Would anyone like to help me get over my (minor!) disappointment and convince me that being a mum to a boy is awesome? Smile

I was a little like this OP. I was thrilled to be pregnant with a healthy baby but had hoped a little bit for a girl. However my DS (now 16 months) is my absolute world. He is smiley, cuddly and a real mummy’s boy. I absolutely LOVE having a son and am so glad he was a boy!

Funnily enough 11 months later I had a girl too! They are both wonderful in their own way.

You’ll probably find as your pregnancy progresses that you forget about wanting a girl and just get excited about your little one’s arrival ...

PinkOboe · 24/01/2019 21:59

They are SO brilliant. DS was the first boy in three generations of our family. It didn’t cross my mind that I’d have a boy. I was pretty taken aback when she came out a he. I thought I’d have no idea what to do with a boy.

He’s absolutely amazing; gorgeous, fun, so loving, hilariously entertaining, calm, compassionate, kind, interesting, creative, beautiful. He’s everything, just perfect and he’s 9 now so plenty of time for the novelty to have worn off Grin

I also have a daughter who’s all that too but I’m absolutely thrilled to have a son (he’s a damn site ‘easier’ than dd too but that’s their personalities rather than their sex).

Notwhoyouthink35 · 24/01/2019 22:03

I desperately wanted a girl, had two DS first. I did have a girl the third time tho! All I can say is that little boys are the sweetest most cuddly little things. My two DS are now late teens and I have such a close relationship with them.

Nicecupofcoco · 24/01/2019 22:08

Boys are great OP! I have a toddler, and he's just amazing! Very loving, smiley and affectionate, bit of a mummies boy too!
My sister has three boys and wouldn't have it any other way!
If we decide to have another I wouldn't be disappointed at all if we had another boy!
You'll fall in love as soon as you meet him! Smile

Tenpenny · 24/01/2019 22:13

I wanted a boy my entire life then found out I was expecting a girl. Couldn't believe it, had his name picked out since I was a child, the works.
It didn't matter in the slightest. My girl was/is the love of my life entirely

This is how you will feel about your boy Smile

3boysandabump · 24/01/2019 22:15

I have 4 boys and I can confirm they are absolutely ace!

MyKingdomForBrie · 24/01/2019 22:16

I agree with the above! I wanted big brother/little sister (I always wanted a big brother when I was a child!) and got the opposite - when I had dd I couldn't imagine how or why I'd wanted a boy when girls were so perfect! Whatever you think you want, it's just so irrelevant in the end - you get a person not a sex.

Yellowcar2 · 24/01/2019 22:16

I have 3 DC. DS 1st then 2 DDs.

Baby stage - My son as a baby was an absolute dream. Regular naps, could move or even change him whilst napping, consistently slept through the night from 14weeks. Now fast forward to both DDs hardly ever naps if you look at them they wake up still regularly wake up during the night and the eldest is nearly 3.

Toddler stage - DS is very laid back goes with the flow. DD hard work I get told off for not saying bless you if she sneezes! Can no longer buy tricolour pasta as apparently she doesn't eat green.

But they are all fab and wouldn't change them for the world ... well except for the sleeping.

thegreatbeyond · 24/01/2019 22:18

I'm completely in love with my beautiful boy. He is the real love of my life :)

LiquoricePickle · 24/01/2019 22:18

I have a one and a half year old son. He's fantastic! He's cute and cheeky and hilarious. I didn't have a really strong preference, but I sort of assumed I'd have a girl and was terrified that I wouldn't know what to do with a boy! I'm now expecting my second and it looks like she's a girl... And now I'm terrified I won't know what to do with her!!
Congratulations!

ILoveMaxiBondi · 24/01/2019 22:19

Honestly OP the minute they put that baby in your arms you won’t give two hoots what sex it is. You will be so in love with your perfect little baby. I know that sounds like a load of cheesy guff but it’s true. In 5 years you will have the most amazing little boy putting a smile on your face every day and you’ll wonder what the hell you were worried about.

StylishDuck · 24/01/2019 22:19

I have a 1yo DS and he is honestly the happiest, smiliest, cuddliest baby in the world. He crawls up and puts his head on your lap to give you a hug and he makes everyone he meets smile.

I also have a 4yo DD who is incredibly smart, funny and kind. She makes me laugh every day and I love how inquisitive she is about everything.

You will love your child unconditionally regardless of what sex they are. Congratulations!

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 24/01/2019 22:20

3 scans told me a girl.
Ds appeared and honestly the fact he was healthy and MINE was enough!!
Wasn't fussed either way but brain was expecting a girl!! Big shock!! Massive!!

Iwrotethissongfor · 24/01/2019 22:22

No they’re not the best. Girls are great. Boys are great. Neither is best. Your baby will be the best to you. Congratulations on a healthy pregnancy.

Blabbermouth93 · 24/01/2019 22:23

I have 3 ds and i can tell you they are amazing little characters my youngest is 1 and he loves just cuddling in hes so cheeky my first two where the exact same im pregnant with a girl a absoutley panicking as i don't know what to do with a girl i had her name picked out as a boys lol xxx

Daisiesinavase · 24/01/2019 22:24

Little boys in dungarees are very cute :)

BowBeau · 24/01/2019 22:24

I was convinced I was having a girl and was desperate to buy pretty dresses. Devastated to discover I was having a boy. Boys clothes in high street stores are crap. Have a look on Instagram for baby boy clothes, you’ll get excited again. I buy mostly Scandi brands and handmade stuff from Etsy.

rightreckoner · 24/01/2019 22:26

Mine is so cuddly. Aged 9 Smile. And he really loves his mum SmileSmile

Amy326 · 24/01/2019 22:28

When I was pregnant with my second I was convinced it was a girl (already had a girl and just saw myself with 2 girls, absolutely could not imagine having a boy) we didn’t find out but I was sure it was going to be a girl. It was a boy and I was shocked initially but not disappointed I wouldn’t say. Anyway, it didn’t take long to fall head over heels and I’m absolutely besotted with my boy, I couldn’t love him more and I’m so glad he’s here. I don’t know why I couldn’t imagine having a boy because now I couldn’t imagine my life without him. Don’t worry OP it will be fine, you will love your baby more than you can ever imagine, boy or girl x

GoodStuffAnnie · 24/01/2019 22:28

My two boys are adorable. They are my world (my daughter is too). They really really love me and need me. Boys are brilliant and sweet and perfect.

PoohBearsHole · 24/01/2019 22:29

That moment of complete true love, kill your partner to save your child!!!!! You won’t give two figs I assure you.

You will likely have this with either sex, however we are all under the impression because we are female that a girl is easier to deal with. A boy is far easier to hoodwink 😂
They’re funny and interesting and their toys are MUCH better fun - Just watch the nappy moment when they wee in your face 😁

sandylion · 24/01/2019 22:30

My baby boy (3 and a half) asks for a cuddy wuddy and kissy wissy all the time. Adoration seeps from his eyeballs, no matter what. Tells me he loves me about ten times a day (and his language isn't great so it warms me this is his favourite sentence)

No male nae human will ever love you more.

Enjoy your boy he will adore you!

GoodStuffAnnie · 24/01/2019 22:31

I was trying to say all children are perfect and lovely but boys are really attached to their mummies imo.

PineapplePower · 24/01/2019 22:32

I was so afraid to have a boy (higher risk for learning disabilities/behavioral problems) but he’s so cute and cuddly that I can’t imagine life without him.

I think our culture isn’t great with boys frankly. We only think of what they shouldn’t be like; we just don’t have a positive concept of what a boy should grow into.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 24/01/2019 22:33

Oh my goodness, bless you. Am amazed that the sonography could tell.

Okay it’s been 15 yr and six months since a sonigrapher said “it’s a boy”

And he’s been the best thing ever.

I can’t deny some irritation at racks and racks of pretty girls dresses at Xmas while boys got jeans and t shirts bit o adore my son.

At 16 he towers over me, pats me on the head and calls me “Mumbles” Hmm Grin

Girls are lovely too but bits are just gorgeous,
