@bettythecat, a few years ago I had my gall bladder removed. Before the op, I Googled... Big mistake!! Ended up convinced that I would be left with a lifetime of toilet issues! We we're engaged at the time, I told him if I ended up chained to a toilet forever, he had my permission to leave me!! He told me to stop being ridiculous, get off the Internet etc and he was right, all was OK.

I think if we feel like having a Google, we should post a pic of cats or food instead!! 😂

AnnaMC214 · 10/02/2019 22:07

@FivexFive I could not agree more! When my dh and I first decided to start ttc I stupidly googled a medical thing he'd had when he was young and became convinced it had made him infertile. One completely fine sa later and of course the fact that I'm on here proves how wrong that was!

I love the cat and food pic plan 😂😂

stormtrooperjulian · 11/02/2019 13:02

Does anyone have any tips on coping with how BAD everything smells? I think the super pregnancy sense of smell has kicked in for me, and I’m not enjoying it at all! Lunch hour in my office today was a struggle (we have no break room here, people eat at their desks)

ChaosMoon · 11/02/2019 13:24

There are some gorgeous names being suggested ladies. We have short lists for first names but I really need to think about middle names too.

@Bettythecat the pub was a definite draw for us too! Ours starts next week. I'm so excited! Would be so funny if we were on the same one. ☺️

Sorry I'm not replying to everyone. I've been awake since 2, so I'm a broken mess. I can barely keep two words in my head at a time.

EltzBee · 11/02/2019 14:08

@stormtrooperjulian not really but sucking on an extra strong mint sort of helps if you're not eating... Our office is small and open plan too and the other week the smell of food made me fast and have to run to the loos. Trains are as bad too.

At home I've barely cooked since the new year as I just haven't been able to cope with the smells. Even the microwave sets me off gagging.

sunshine1987 · 11/02/2019 14:22

I cannot wait to start picking a name! Top favourites at the moment are Ada or Everly for a girl and Finley or Theo for a both. Though I’m still yet to discuss with hubbie, decided we’d wait until after our next scan. How we’ll agree on two names I don’t know xx

FlapJackered · 11/02/2019 14:55

@sunshine1987 That's so funny, Ada is one of my top girl names and Theo one of my top boy names. Great minds 😉

5 weeks and my symptoms seem to have stopped and apart from a bit of cramping I don't really feel pregnant. Can't help worrying a bit.. 😕

Bettythecat · 11/02/2019 15:05

@ChaosMoon ah sounds like you're a lot ahead of me then so we won't be 😞 I'm only 7 weeks so won't be booking for a while although looks like they get very booked up. Let me know how it is though I'd love to hear!

@FlapJackered we were chatting about this yesterday and it seems there are a few of us in the first trimester who are having very limited symptoms so it's maybe not as unusual as you think! I know it's easier said than done not to worry though- I'm exactly the same at the moment as I feel pretty good and having no sickness or anything. Just keep having to get my mum and DH to reassure me!

sunshine1987 · 11/02/2019 15:08

@flapjackered if I need more inspiration I’m definetely coming to you! Also don’t worry, I had hardly any symptoms at all (think at the beginning I made them up) and everything was all ok. I had the same worry, still don’t feel pregnant to be honest and I’m 15 weeks xx

FlapJackered · 11/02/2019 15:18

@sunshine1987 @Bettythecat thanks girls, that's good to know. I know I shouldn't be complaining about not feeling sick but you just want some reassurance that something is happening don't you!

Bettythecat · 11/02/2019 15:21

@FlapJackered I had thought some "proper" symptoms would have kicked in by now which is why I'm now very glad I've got my early scan at 8 weeks booked for next week! Counting down the days to that! Have you thought anymore about having one?

@sunshine1987 that's very reassuring to hear- hopefully I will be the same as you.

sunshine1987 · 11/02/2019 15:23

@bettythecat @flapjackered yep, I spent the whole 12 weeks wanting to feel sick or something so it felt real. Then I got to my scan and realised how lucky I actually was that I never felt crap and never enjoyed it or made the most of it lol 🤦🏻‍♀️ It’s part of the reason I had the 8 week scan as my brain was telling me everything can’t be ok if I don’t “feel” pregnant, but everything was fine x

FivexFive · 11/02/2019 15:27

@flapjackered, I'm another one with no real symptoms, apart from the odd twinge here and there. Really trying to just enjoy not feeling ill and not to worry. We'll see how long that lasts!! My mum was exactly the same apparently.

We went shopping today and braved Mothercare, just for a bit of (very) early recon. The conclusion... There is too much choice and I am clueless!! 🙁 But I'm sure we'll get there in the end.

FlapJackered · 11/02/2019 15:29

@Bettythecat I think we will get one. I have got my booking in appointment on 6th March so I think I will book it for just after that.
That is so exciting yours is next week!!

@sunshine1987 that's great to know you had the same. Although I am sure now I have said that I bet 6 weeks will hit me like it did CrossFit with a whole load of nausea!

FlapJackered · 11/02/2019 15:31

@FivexFive oh really! That's interested as my Mum said she had a very easy pregnancy with very few symptoms. So hopefully I will be the same.
Were you looking at prams in mothercare? It must make it all very real!!

FlapJackered · 11/02/2019 15:31

*interesting

FivexFive · 11/02/2019 15:39

@flapjackered, yeah I've started to think the no sickness/symptoms could be genetic?? 🤔

Yeah we looked at prams and cribs etc. We wanted to look around, then nearer the time we (should) have an idea what we want and we can scout out some offers, maybe even 2nd hand options??

I did see one pram I like, it was a Mothercare own one. It was a pram that can be a pushchair too, the pod thing detaches so you can use it inside and wasn't too heavy. Plus, not super expensive as it was just their brand... I almost fell over seeing the price of some of them!! I'm still stumped on all the sleeping options though 😳

Bettythecat · 11/02/2019 16:01

@FivexFive I sometimes have a look at prams on John Lewis- I'll be very excited to make that purchase I think as it makes it all so real. I like the look of the ICandy which you can make into a two baby pram if you have another and I've seen them in real life and they look really light weight. They are absolutely crazy prices though- about a grand!! Would be a definite saving up thing but I guess if you can keep it for your first and second it would be easier to justify??

FivexFive · 11/02/2019 16:19

@bettythecat, the one I saw is the Mothercare journey, I like that it seems versatile... Pram, carry cot, pushchair that can be rear and forward facing. It was about £350, which is somehow on the cheaper end of the scale!!

Also saw a nice cot that turns into a little bed when they're older, that seems a good idea. It's the sleeping options for the first few months that baffle me... Moses basket, side bed thing, tiny cot?? Draw?!!

Ha ha, my mum saw these fold up baby bath things, she was amazed, said it was the best thing ever 😂

Bettythecat · 11/02/2019 16:50

@FivexFive yes that sounds like quite a good deal to me!

With the sleeping up to 6 months I think you just need a bed for them in your room. It can be either a Moses basket or a side cot thing or a normal cot I think. I quite like the idea of having the side cot thing in our bedroom and then getting a Moses basket to keep in the living room for naps during the day: I don't think I'm going to want to lug the baby/side bed cot top (surely there's another name 😂) up and down the stairs for day time naps.

EltzBee · 11/02/2019 17:27

@FivexFive haha we were talking about that this weekend. My parents only kept me in there room for 8 weeks. Some friends still have there kids in there room as 3 year olds cos they won't stay in their own room.

6 months seems such a long time and I don't see how we would manage that as it would keep getting disturbed by us coming to bed or DH going to work etc, plus stopping us sleeping.

Funny how advice flips on is head all the time really.

FivexFive · 11/02/2019 17:44

@EltzBee, all the ladies at work say to try and get them used to being in their own room in the crib from 8 weeks. I have to say, it makes sense to me! Might just try and get a large moses basket on a stand for our room, then use that and the pram pull out thing for downstairs??

Well ladies, to distract from the too large array of choices... I am cooking duck ragu pasta!! X

ChaosMoon · 11/02/2019 18:06

The advice on keeping them in your room is because babies under 6 months are more prone to SIDS of they don't share a room with someone.

It isn't because you're more likely to notice them stop breathing, which is the common misconception. It's because they're more likely to stop breathing if there isn't another breathing human in the room. It's not reflexive until about 6 months but their mirror response is so strong that another person breathing near them keeps them at it.

The advice has changed because we know more now as there's been more research. It's worth bearing in mind.

And now I'm jealous of your ragu @FivexFive!

AnnaMC214 · 11/02/2019 18:18

@ChaosMoon wow I didn't know that. That's really interesting. I always figured I would have the baby in my room for a good while anyway especially as feeds are so frequent at the beginning etc but that puts a whole new perspective on it!

@FivexFive your dinner sounds really exciting. I'm being lazy tonight as my dh is on nights. We have Hello Fresh coming on Wednesday though which will hopefully kick me out of my lazy rut!

Bettythecat · 11/02/2019 18:36

@ChaosMoon gosh that is so interesting! Thanks for the info!

I think I'll want to have them in with me for as long as possible but then again I'm a terrible sleeper and have heard all the snuffling noises they make keeps you awake let alone the crying!
