I know how polite you all are, but I would really like the most honest response you can think of -

Dh wants to name Boy twin 'Archie'.

I like it but I'm really worried about the reaction it might get from other people. (hope that doesn't make me too shallow?)

Please could you tell me what you really think of it...

I LOVE it, what about girl twin?
on my list for boys a few years ago was Archie and Alfie, (then Alfie moon came into Eastenders and i said to dp i bet there are loads or Alfies now!!)

smellymelly · 02/09/2004 20:48

Yeah I was a little concerned it would get mixed up with Alfie, even I get a little confused!

Girl twin will be 'Morgan'..

i think its a lovely name, can't think why it might get a bad reaction

albert · 02/09/2004 20:48

I love it too, it was on my name list for DS (but no chosen)

Angeliz · 02/09/2004 20:48

very cute.

Tissy · 02/09/2004 20:50

love it, too. My dd would have been an Archie. Dh wasn't keen though, as apparently it is pronounced "itchy" around here!! Lucky she was a girl, or we would have had a fight!

aloha · 02/09/2004 20:51

Well, I prefer to 'officially' give a child the full name rather than the nickname version (it's a very personal preference - I don't want to offend anyone!) so I would feel I had to give him the name Archibald on his birth certificate, which I'm not crazy about. It was Cary Grant's real name!
Archie does sound nicer though.

popsycal · 02/09/2004 20:52

i love it
might add it to my own list if you don#t mind....

sportyspice · 02/09/2004 20:53

I know an Archie and i think it is a very sweet boys name, thought it a little odd to start with but he is such a character that it is in itself quite a quirky name.

NomDePlume · 02/09/2004 20:53

Like it. Like Archie but can't stand Archibald. I'm not of the 'put the whole name on the virth certificate even if you never intend to use it' school of thought, what's the point ?

beansmum · 02/09/2004 20:54

it would have to be Archie not Archibald though, Archibald is such a big name for a baby

NomDePlume · 02/09/2004 20:54

Of course I mean 'birth certificate'

smellymelly · 02/09/2004 20:55

I have to agree NDP, would never use Archibald, and would not put it on Birth Certificate...

I think Archie is fantastic. It's a great name.

Don't want to put you off... but did you know it is getting quite popular? I know 4 Archies under 2 round here - it suits them all! There are quite a few names just coming in now that mum's generation are quite taken aback by. I'd say, just don't tell them til the babe is born.

hope this hasn't been offputting.

jodee · 02/09/2004 21:44

Lovely name, but as AB said - turning into quite a popular one, a good friend has just had an Archie.

nutcracker · 02/09/2004 21:50

Actually i'm quite surprised to say that I really really like it.

Have to admit that the first thing i thought of was Balamory (i have an addict), but i think it's lovley and would use it myself if i were pregnant.

granarybeck · 02/09/2004 21:52

love it!

pepsi · 02/09/2004 21:55

I like it. Remember the inventor in Balamory is called Archie. Arthur and Alfie are popular at the moment too.

BooMama · 02/09/2004 22:01

I love it - is it our ds's second name. We just couldn't decide which one to use first but it just sounded better as the second one. We got it off Monarch of the Glen which we used to watch at the time.
MIL obviously prefered it - for ds's second Easter she got him an egg with 'Archie' on rather than his first name which he is known by. Very confusing for him and a bit annoying for us as it implied she didn't like his first name...

Heathcliffscathy · 02/09/2004 22:13

i love it. it is v trendy tho...

Hulababy · 03/09/2004 10:34

I like it (like Alfie too).

CP3 · 03/09/2004 10:36

Love it love it love it. Is a favourite baby name of mine but a firend of mine had it so couldnt really use it. Very sweet!!!!! Also love Barny though and Jasper so may best not to take any notice of me

SoupDragon · 03/09/2004 10:44

Just to be different, I don't like it. I love Morgan though

I'm of the "full name on birth certificate" brigade too. My reasoning being that they can then have a friendly name (the shortened version) and one which suits a professional person for when they are grown up and working etc.
