I know how polite you all are, but I would really like the most honest response you can think of -

Dh wants to name Boy twin 'Archie'.

I like it but I'm really worried about the reaction it might get from other people. (hope that doesn't make me too shallow?)

Please could you tell me what you really think of it...

cheers okay to be completely honest if someone said to me 'my twins Archie and Morgan' I'd think 'ahhh two boys then' unless you mean you'll always call her 'Morgan Rose' all the time?

suzywong · 03/09/2004 12:50

You may think Charlie a bid oddy coddy, but the trick is to team it with a frightfully posh and somewhat exotic double barrel surname, adds plenty of gravitas should the need arise in later life; Dean of University, atom-splitter, Black Rod etc. etc.

dinosaur · 03/09/2004 12:52

Makes me think of Archie Gemmill...

No I'm not Scottish!

smellymelly · 03/09/2004 12:53

LOL Suzywong!

I always thought Archie was a 'posh' name?

misdee · 03/09/2004 12:57

my mil middle name is russell.

but i like the name archie.

if i have a boy he will be called isaac

suzywong · 03/09/2004 12:58

Serioulsy thoug smellymelly, if you really really like it give it to him as his second name with a plainer first name and if he tires of it or gets all serious in his adolescence he can easily swap them around.

We went through something similar with DS2's name, the diminutive is not a serious name by any stretch of the imagination but by crikey the full version is like something out of the Forsyte Saga

MUMINAMILLION · 03/09/2004 13:15

Whatever name you choose, there will be some who love it and some who hate it. We got so fed-up with peoples opinions with our first dd that we called her Kallista because no-one could associate it with someone who had the name that they hated!! As long as you both like it, what other people think doesnt really matter. But if you have doubts, then maybe its not the name for you.

KateandtheGirls · 03/09/2004 13:19

MIAM is exactly right.

smellymelly · 03/09/2004 13:20

Misdee - DS1 is called Isaac!!

JuniperDewdrop · 03/09/2004 13:22

I love it

MUMINAMILLION · 03/09/2004 13:23

So do I incidentally!

JuniperDewdrop · 03/09/2004 13:23

my two boys have unusual names and the comments i get are quite extreme at times. Most like them though

MUMINAMILLION · 03/09/2004 13:25

Yes, mine are the same. All 4 dds have fairly, or extremely unusual names. I should really give them all name badges with name meanings because we are constantly asked to repeat them, spell them, give meaning and reasons for choosing them etc. and after all that no-one ever gets them right anyway. A point worth remembering when choosing a name.

JuniperDewdrop · 03/09/2004 13:26

Oh no muminamillion, your poor mum!!!

JuniperDewdrop · 03/09/2004 13:27

no my boys names get mispelt

one good thing though I only have to put one name on their name tags

MUMINAMILLION · 03/09/2004 13:30

You're right Juniper - a true benefit. However, its a bit of a pain when you cant get the personalised mug, pencil, notepad, tee-shirt etc etc etc.

fio2 · 03/09/2004 13:31

can you remember the lady janh knew who called all of her four sons brian!

archie is nice

muddaofsuburbia · 03/09/2004 13:31

Smellymelly - Archie from Balamory is here

You could even catch him live on stage Balamory.com !

The Balamory Archie is rather camp and public school-y but not unpopular.

Personally although it's a lovely name, Balamory Archie is the first person I think of because I have a 2 year old. People who don't have young children won't have heard of him.

MUMINAMILLION · 03/09/2004 13:32

fio2 - what a fab idea!! When passing clothes down, you wouldnt need to change labels atall! And when shouting for a child you wouldnt need to go through all the names before getting the right one!

JuniperDewdrop · 03/09/2004 13:33

Ahhh but muminamillio, there's a shop in Scarborough that puts any name on lots of things

We're off there for the weekend at teatime so I'll be getting them something from that shop, plus a pressie for my mate's dd Tonicha.

geekgrrl · 03/09/2004 13:34

i think it's a lovely name for a baby, but how would he feel as a 30 year old being called Archie (which sounds really cute and cuddly) or Archibald (hmmm!!!)? And yes, it does seem to be rather popular at the moment - I know three Archies.

smellymelly · 03/09/2004 13:38

OMG mumofsuburbia- he looks awful!!! DD is 2 this month, but thankfully I have managed to escape Balamory!

Muminamillion and Juniperdewdrop - I would love to know what your kids names are, I like unusual names... Will you tell??

MUMINAMILLION · 03/09/2004 13:38

smellymelly · 03/09/2004 13:45
