Could this be the very start of labour?

Please say yes!

39+1 and as of yesterday afternoon I’ve had a sort of heavy pressure in my bum. Period type pain for the last week or so too. Then from yesterday evening I’ve had a very sharp pain over my bump that lasts maybe 10 seconds or so, although only once every 2 hours ish. Also quite tender lower back ache.

So keen to get things moving now - could this be the slightest hint that things might start to happen soon?!

Good tip - I was feeling quite stressed because we were due to have visitors this afternoon and workmen here in the morning, but I’ve cancelled the visitors so we can just relax and go with the flow today, and we will just delay the workmen if needs be. I didn’t want to tell anyone when labour was happening specifically because I didn’t want to feel the pressure of knowing people were anxiously waiting for news, but I was the one putting the pressure on myself!

Contractions have started up again but now I am just trying to think of them as a small stepping stone rather than a ‘baby might be here by the end of the day!’

@GinGeum how are you? Hoping you’ve managed to relax a little x

GinGeum · 06/01/2019 16:11

I’m feeling okay! Nice and relaxed after a quiet day at home, Still having contractions on and off but nothing major happening. Any signs for you yet harry?

Afraid not! This little one tricks me, I get stop start contractions most evenings that always turns into nothing.
Glad your feeling ok and relaxed xx

BlueMoon33 · 06/01/2019 16:28

I second the glass of wine. I had one the evening before I was due to be induced and woke up in labour the next morning!

Just keep knowing that you’re doing great, your body knows what to do and it’s all getting ready to see your baby as soon as the time is right.

GinGeum · 06/01/2019 18:30

I’m not so sure on the wine front, I haven’t had an alcoholic drink since waaay before being pregnant and I fear one glass will floor me instantly Grin

I wouldn't drink just incase you go into labour and need any drugs in hospital that react funny, but I'm one of those glass is always half empty / worst case thinkers!

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 06/01/2019 18:43

Me too, Kylie Grin

Glad you’ve had a nice relaxed day. I’m sure you won’t be waiting too much longer.

le42 · 06/01/2019 18:45

At our antenatal class the midwife said a glass of wine in the bath is the best thing to do during early labour 😂

HeyArthur · 06/01/2019 21:14

Alcohol actually inhibits contractions because it relaxes the uterus so probs best avoid that if you want this baby out anytime soon.

LeeCee · 06/01/2019 21:29

Argh @HeyArthur had just poured myself a glass!

GinGeum · 06/01/2019 21:36

I think I will lay off the wine and stick to hypnobirthing mp3s and foot rubs from DH for relaxing Wink

I have my 40 week midwife appointment on Tuesday. Does anyone know, if I tell them about the frequent contractions if they will do an internal examination then?

shecamefromgreece · 06/01/2019 21:41

She may well offer you a sweep if you're niggling anyway it might be worth a try.

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 06/01/2019 21:49

You can ask, no harm!

Bitchfromhell · 06/01/2019 21:50

You can ask for one. Explain what has been happening and they should be only too glad to have a look for you,
Because I've had a complicated pregnancy I've been having ve's for a few weeks (nearly 40w now), sadly not been ready for a sweep yet.

GinGeum · 06/01/2019 21:56

Ah I will ask if nothing more has progressed by then! Might decide against it because the maternity room at the GP has almost no privacy from the waiting room Grin but I might not care by then. I also have a student who’s been accompanying me on all my appointments so I hope she might be keen to do an examination.

I love a almost in labour thread 🥰 don't stress - you will know when it's labour - you won't mistake it. Homebirths are absolutely incredible- I've had two. I hope it all goes well for you. Xxx

GinGeum · 07/01/2019 03:10

i think I’ve just lost the rest of my plug, I didn’t realise there was going to be quite so much of it so I obviously only lost a bit of it the other day (or mistook it for something else maybe). Keep being woken up by contractions too, still not anymore regular but I think they’re getting stronger...

MyOtherProfile · 07/01/2019 04:52

Ooo it sounds like it's happening for real now. How far apart are the contractions?

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 07/01/2019 05:50

That’s exciting OP. How regular are the contractions now? You must be 39+5, is that right?

KitKat1985 · 07/01/2019 07:24

Oh that sounds promising OP. Are they starting to fall into a more regular pattern?

GinGeum · 07/01/2019 08:03

39+6! Contractions coming every 3 mins or so and lasting about 30 secs. Waters went at about 4.30 this morning

OP posts:
MyOtherProfile · 07/01/2019 08:05

Yes! Exciting! Thinking of you OP. Is the midwife with you?

shecamefromgreece · 07/01/2019 08:05
