bleeding at six weeks pregnant is it all over ?

i would like some advice i am six weeks gone and started bleeding last night it was heavy to start but it only lasted about a hour and a half and then slowed down well it was stoped by the time i went to bed and has not started again i am woundering is it all over or is it still ok i have not had a miscarrage before but friends say when you do miscarry you bleed for about ten days and feel like you have the worst cramps well i have not had any i am seeing my doctor on monday i was woundering should i go to the doc today or just wait untill monday i would love to get some advice

Anoushka, pls go to your doctors or speak to someone on the phone asap. I've never had a miscarriage, so don't know all the symptoms, but this sounds very serious to me. I think 6-7 weeks is about the earliest a scan can pick up a heartbeat, but the hospital might be able to do other tests to see if your baby's ok. Best of luck, Rx.

Just like to echo Rosy's comment - if a doc is not available then go to your nearest a&e dept. It may be nothing, but miscarriage is not always accompanied by cramps (as I found to my cost). I hope everything's OK - good luck from me too.

Hiya - please go and get this checked asap....Does your local hospital have an early pregnancy clinic that you can just turn up to ?

I've had 3 miscarriages - 2 were heavy bleeding, painand the whole lot. The other one had no symptoms at all, tiny amount of spotting and no pain. Very best of luck Mabs

BTW I knew in all cases I'd miscarried as my boobs deflated immediately and I could touch them without pain

i had bleeding and severe pain at 8 weeks - it was not a miscarriage (fibroids). neither my gp nor a&e could confirm continuation of the pregnancy, i had to go to an early pregnancy assessment unit for a scan. if you live in london, there is a unit at st thomas's hospital. it is a walk in service, daytime only. your gp should at least be able to advise you where your nearest epau is - if you can't wait, maybe nhs direct would know or you could just telephone your local hospitals.

i went on to deliver a hefty nine and a half pounder at 41weeks - so it is not necessarily all over.

Anoushka, I've had bleeding in all of my pregnancies. 3 went to term and the first 2 ended in miscarriage. Unfortunately, there is no real way of knowing unless you go to an e.preg clinic ( I think its between 5 and 6 weeks that they can detect the heartbeat) or A&E unit. Mabs, I know what you mean about knowing because of breast changes - I felt this too with my first pregnancy. There is not always pain but by no means does bleeding mean you have definitely lost your baby, as I found out with my later pregancies. I wish you lots of luck and send lots of love: it is really a very worrying and upsetting thing to happen, but fingers crossed xxx

Anoushka, I think the resounding message here is go to the docs or speak to someone (NHS Direct) ASAP. As Bossykate said it may not mean that it is all over, but you need to get it checked out. All the best. XXX

Agree, get to a doctor, so you can be assessed/ reassured asap. I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks, and it was just like a "normal" period for me- bleeding for one day and no cramps. I knew that I had lost the baby because I wanted something to eat-I'd been sick, sick, sick for the previous week! BTW, even if it is over this time, don't lose heart, I got pregnant again very next cycle and went on to have a healthy pregnancy (except for the sickness, of course!).

Hello anoushka, I would agree with everyone else you should see Dr asap or phone NHS direct 0845 46 47, could be a number of reasons why you bleeding, i.e. water infection so best to get check out now, my sister has had heaving bleeding in all her first few wks of pregnancies all been ok, she now choosing names for her 5th!! I had a miscarriage at 14weeks started - light spotting, 2days later I was takening my 3yr old (at the time) her first experience in a Amubalance. It was the most horrible, painfull experience I've ever had, wouldnt wish for or anyone to have to go through. Please let us know how you get on. love itHER

Go and see your GP. I miscarried at 8 weeks and had awful cramps, but my cervix dilated to expel everything in the uterus - apparently this is why some miscarriages have cramping and some not. A friend of mine bled heavily and intermittently at 7 weeks pregnant but she's now 10 weeks and the baby is still here...so you never know. Good luck x E

I bled and 6 weeks and 8 weeks and called the emergency doc out who said I was miscarrying, I then went to have a scan just to be sure (vaginal - they can locate heartbeat) and they found a peanut (she was so small) with a heartbeat. Go to the doctor don't agonise. YOu'll know if it comes out and if it hasnt it's good news.

By the way, my mum had 3 periods / bleeds whilst carrying my brother and I and we were both fine. Some women just do.

anoushka - echo everything that has been said here. Bleeding in early pregnancy is not always serious, but should be checked out. What blood group are you? If you are a rhesus negative type, you should see the GP straight away, as you will need a dose of anti-D (to prevent you making antibodies against baby's blood type) - you should have this within 72 hrs of a bleed. thanks everybody i did go to my doc and they sent me down to the hospital they do have a early pregnacy clinic but only mon-fri so i am going on monday morning they seemed to say that there was nothing to worry about it has stopped so far thanks for all your support i will heep you up to date on monday oh i am recius positive by the way xxxx

thanks debester IT'S STILL THERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!i am so relived i had a scan and i say my knobbly baked bean it was so small she said she wants to se me again in two weeks but everything is fine i have stoped bleeding so all well horray thanks for all you support

thats great news, I am really pleased for you - I went through bleeding in pregnancy and found it sooo worrying - back to the hospital for scans each time and those few moments when they start the scan I would lie there with my eyes closed silently saying please please please, waiting to hear if the heartbeat was visible, I can imagine how you felt when they said all was okay.

Oh fantastic, Anoushka! What wonderful news. Take really good care of yourself.

I was utterly euphoric in the same situation a few years back- seeing two knobbly jelly blobs when I was expecting nothing was one of the best moments of my life.
