Kyle
Ellie
Jaden/Jayden
Chanelle
etc etc... and apologies if you have called your child any of the above
I put Ellie because a squillion little girls are called that.
Freya is a nice name but there are so many now - it really turns me against such names,no matter whether they are nice

Goodness me, another insightful afternoon on MN! I have just realized something profound!

I dont actually think I have ever heard a name I dislike! Come on, you dislike a person, not a name, surely? I am sure if I met enough horrible Johns (just an example) I would get bad associations to that name, but the name itself?

it is about class though, isn't it? however you try to dress it up you are implying that the names mentioned on this thread are used by the working classes.you don't have to come out and say it.you said your sister knows what kind of class she has by their names. What's that about if it's not about class? and tyler and kyle's have earrings? sorry,it's all bollocks, dressed up so that you can get away with being bloody rude and then laugh it off.

Portia was a girls name before a car - pronounced the same way anyway.

That's why I deliberately DIDN'T say Astra!!

AnneJones, what is wrong with WANDSWORTH? Are we judging where people live now?

Thats why I wondered if things would go round in circles.

I live in Wandsworth. It is rather middle-class. Gordon Ramsay lives there.

My friends were going to name their daughter after their brand of fridge. Think it was lectra.

Hatrick I agree. Your friend is very unprofessional BellyUp and you can tell her I said so. Perhaps she is one of those teachers who graduated from University and went straight back into primary school.. so never really experienced the real world with Real People who are all different and can't so easily be pidgeon holed.

And it's no good going all long suffering about comments about your child's name.. you chose to be offensive in the first place. I actually love the name Isaac although that is irrelevant of course.

pmsl @ UQD.

(Ooh, get me with all my abbreviations).

SHPHH: the boy in Sexing The Cherry is named Jordan after the river. I've always liked it because of that.

felix the cat - yawn, try to be slightly original

Report

I never get it when people say "very [London borough]". It's meaningless. If I said "very [Sheffield suburb]" it would be equally meaningless to most people.

... and not to mention Lady Fiennes! lol

Maybe we are even thinking about the same Felixes, pmsl

i can't believe people in this place can be so bloody rude and get away with it so far my daughter and neice's names have been called grim, my mates dd's name is on the original list and so's my cousins

Report
lailasmum · 06/06/2007 17:03

It is important to get it just right though. I hate my name and one of my closest friends totally changed her name as an adult as she felt it held her back.
