Kyle
Ellie
Jaden/Jayden
Chanelle
etc etc... and apologies if you have called your child any of the above
I put Ellie because a squillion little girls are called that.
Freya is a nice name but there are so many now - it really turns me against such names,no matter whether they are nice

My children have Gaelic names, with a Scottish surname. They're doomed the second they cross the border, if MN is any indication.

Good thing I'll encourage them to leave the island as soon as they're able.

CountessDracula · 06/06/2007 16:46

Come on you lot

This is mumsnet

I could type ANY name and there would be a lot of people who wouldn't like it. Not worth getting het up about, really...

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 06/06/2007 16:46

Agree expat.

And OFGS bellyup, stop being so coy and have the courage of your convictions.

lailasmum · 06/06/2007 16:46

I do think over use of a name can make it drop out of popularity, I wanted to call my daughter evie as its a family name but decided not to as the rest of my family and a considerable number of friends used it. Would have made it difficult at a party when you shout evie and all eyes turn. I think it will be the next sarah round here.

UnquietDad · 06/06/2007 16:46

Eleanor (Elinor) is quite posh isn't it?

Biscuits would work quite well, with odd spelling too. We could have kids called Garybaldie, Richtee, Shortebreade, Borrbon and Jinja.

Fimbo · 06/06/2007 16:48

There was a little boy on Nina and the Neurons called Denim. I thought I had misheard and even put the subtitles on to check!

lailasmum · 06/06/2007 16:48

I like Jinja, may change my name, am eating ginger biscuit now and have ginger hair so preconceptions would be confirmed.

allgonebellyup · 06/06/2007 16:48

i think scottish names are gorgeous

Hey, why cant my mate be a good teacher? Just because more often than not a child does "suit" his or her name?
you know a child called Hugo isnt going to spit in the teacher's face and call her a "c**t" dont you?

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 06/06/2007 16:48

I am over reacting of course.

However, I have taken offense that my son's name, that I consider beautiful and I chose for quite important (to me) and sentimental reasons is being described and dire, tacky and grim.

We all choose our children's names with love and care.. so this is a perfect example of why these threads are offensive.

And I don't find much offensive on Mumsnet to be honest!

expatinscotland · 06/06/2007 16:49

I'm sure you do, in a condescending, patronising way.

OrmIrian · 06/06/2007 16:50

I still think (as I beleive I mentioned before) that medical names are good - Salmonella is very pretty and Patella. Or even Uvula. Lovely. Would that be posh or dead common????

allgonebellyup · 06/06/2007 16:52

lailasmum · 06/06/2007 16:53

Its like whole car names thing though. Lots of cars with women's names like sharan. I wonder if they will make the names more popular again for children.
