Funny isn't it, we're not going to find out but from that I'm having a girl so we'll see.
@GinGeum same here, my dog comes everywhere with me, the boot is hers really, shopping goes in the back seat at the moment so unless we buy a bigger car anything to minimise extra luggage is a bonus

doleritedinosaur · 30/08/2018 22:01

@Merrz my first solved this by refusing the pram so for everything he was in the baby carrier.
The caboo has rings & there’s a newborn hold then front hold.
I can feed it & did that walking with DS2 so we could

doleritedinosaur · 30/08/2018 22:10

@Merrz sorry fat thumbs there!
So there are adaptors for the maxi cosi car seat for the Quinny & there is a carry cot but I never used it.

For me it’s easier to just wear them or OH.
Especially as our car seat came with the silver cross so doesn’t go on Quinny.

To me the Quinny is perfect as it does fold down a lot & my local bike shop can also fix the wheels which only happened once.

But I would go to as many as shops as possible & a bumps & baby group to ask people’s opinions.
They really depend on your lifestyles, other DC & around car seats etc.

I need to remember to book my whooping cough tomorrow.

Looking at that sign both my boys should be girls hahaha.

My cravings are vinegar mostly haha.

Merrz · 31/08/2018 07:31

Thanks @doleritedinosaur I will ask around but sounds like a definite option for me

Buttercup53 · 31/08/2018 07:50

Morning everyone, hope you’re all looking forward to the weekend. We were gifted an ISOFIX base and mamas and papas car seat last night, feel a bit nervous about it because I don’t have any specifications with it, but we’re buying a new seat as well (one for each car) so I’m gonna do some research! The seat just seems to be very upright for a newborn, but maybe they all are?

22 weeks today and really struggling with back and hip pain. How much is to be expected and how painful is too painful?! I don’t sleep properly anymore because of it. It’s exhausting, and I’m already following all of the advice online. I don’t know if I should go to the GP or wait to see my midwife at the end of the month... it doesn’t get worse when I walk (slowly) but getting in and out of the car is a struggle, sitting still or standing still is uncomfortable. Really bringing me down as if it wasn’t for this I’d be feeling physically okay at the minute, I’m used to indigestion normally so other than that I should be feeling great!

I have a bad back as it is so I've been struggling too. I asked the midwife at my last appointment and she said that if it's causing issues doing every day activities then to see her or GP as they can refer for physio or Chiro. I already see a chiropractor for existing issues and she said that's probably the best thing I can do and to follow his advice. At my last appointment he diagnosed slight SPD which primarily causes pelvic pain but can affect the back, he gave me exercises and told me to keep an eye on it.

In other news, I finally felt some proper kicks this morning when I woke up, I could feel them with my hands so hoping DH will be able to start feeling them too now. Problem is that I'm currently away on business so he wasn't there for me to wake him up so he could try Sad but I text him right away so he had a happy message to wake up to, he's excited to start enjoying the experience with me more

GinGeum · 31/08/2018 09:48

butter and crypto that sounds really hard. I don’t have any specific back pain yet thank god. I’ve had a stiff neck since my belly first started popping out at about 16/17 weeks, and I feel really really achy (like when you have a bad cold) for the second half of the day, but I’m hoping going back to yoga in a few weeks will help straighten everything out. I’m dreading how achy I will feel in the third trimester Confused

GinGeum · 31/08/2018 09:51

Pressed post too soon. butter I don’t think it would hurt to see the GP, it sounds as though it’s affecting you a lot.

Baby seems to kick quite aggressively in the evenings! I was laid with a plate on my belly last night and he was nudging it out of the way!

I keep having to cancel evening invites because I’m just so exhausted. I’m not even really doing a lot, pottering about in the garden and walking the dogs mainly, but I’m struggling to put one foot in front of the other from about 2pm onwards!

cryptonaut · 31/08/2018 10:12

@GinGeum you're not the only one exhausted. Might be worth getting iron and b12 levels checked as low levels could make you feel tired and sluggish, might also contribute to feeling achy too. I've had iron deficiency anemia (dangerously low levels when they found it) in the past and I remember always being really run down and feeling cold/flu like symptoms. It was resolved by taking iron supplements until the doctor was happy with the levels again.

sqoodles · 31/08/2018 11:19

Hi everyone,

It feels like weeks have passed since I last caught up on here, rather than days! Congrats on the good scan news and hi to anyone new who has joined in.

My scan went well this week and we're having another girl. We're all very happy! Funnily enough none of us could imagine a boy!

We don't really need to buy much this time around but I want to get some new clothes and new cot/sleepy head/snuzpod fitted sheets. Probably some lovely new muslins and cellular blankets too.

Sorry to hear some people are experiencing lots of pain and tiredness. I'm finding that i'm flagging mid afternoon at work or at home but I get a second wind early evening with the bedlam of dinner/bath/story time etc. Then collapsing on the sofa by 8 and struggling to stay awake past 10pm!

I'm quite looking forward to the darker nights now - when it's more acceptable to be in pj's straight after dinner Grin

sqoodles · 31/08/2018 11:22

Merrz, the old wives tales don't work in my case. I'm having a girl and would say I fit almost all of the boy predictions according to that!

GinGeum · 31/08/2018 11:29

Thanks crypto, I’ve got a midwife appointment coming up soon so I’ll ask her about it then. I have been pretty rubbish at remembering to take my prenatal vitamins so I must get back on track with that.

Has anyone noticed any crazy hair growth? My hair is growing so thickly on my head, I’m beginning to look like a lion. I think it’s getting curlier too!

RiskIt4Biscuit · 31/08/2018 11:31

Congrats sqoodles!

The shop I will be getting my pram from has 20% off everything today (minus prams, I think), so my mum has offered to go and buy stuff to save money.
I gave her a list of the things I was planning on getting, but I have told her that if there is anything I have missed, she can just get that too (and I’ll pay her back).
I’m looking forward to seeing what she comes home with, and I am really hoping the pram is reduced too.

Not working today as my headache is still bad.
I know exactly what it is caused by; my stupid neck and shoulder from having slept in a wrong position.
I don’t really want to take medication, but I am very tempted, even though medication rarely helps when my headaches are caused by neck and shoulder pain.

GinGeum · 31/08/2018 11:31

Congrats on another girl and on healthy scan sqoodles!

doleritedinosaur · 31/08/2018 11:56

@Buttercup53 are you sleeping with a pregnancy pillow or a pillow between your knees? It can really help with the pain, I’ve been using mine again to stop stiffness at night.

@sqoodles congratulations on baby girl & successful scan.

With me yoga really helps with all the stretching pains & the aches the only thing it’s not helping with is the uterus pains. I don’t notice any of the rib stretching even though I have to change bras & I can run around after DC.
But I know not everyone has time or likes yoga, so not trying to ram it down people’s throats.
I just try to do 20 minutes when I wake up & half hour at night when boys are finally in bed.

Also iron levels really start dropping around 22 weeks as there’s a massive growth spurt.

@Merrz if you look on Facebook for your local sling meet, they’re really handy & can see loads of different types as what works for some might not for others. But I know everyone loves the Ergo 360 as it’s 4 different holds but it is expensive however my caboo was bought secondhand & my friend currently has it so it’s on its fourth baby & I’ll be using it for a fifth. My Ergo, my 3 year old can go on my back in it haha.

Hope everyone is having a nice Friday, I seem to be looking after everyone’s dogs but it means I’m doing a lot of walking!

Buttercup53 · 31/08/2018 14:15

While it sucks that other people also have this pain, it's comforting to know I'm not the only one! I'm using a pregnancy pillow between my legs and around my back - it's helped a lot with neck pain, but I think it's being stuck in one position that's affected my hips the most as I normally sleep on my front or back. I'll go to the GP if it gets any worse!

@gin and anyone else feeling tired - I went to the GP for a blood test as I was convinced that I was anaemic, only to have them come back as everything being at a good level. I mean, I've been feeling the kind of physical tiredness you get when you have flu, so I was so sure I was low on iron. Anyway, i've started adding spinach or kale to every evening meal, taking vitamin B tablets, and increasing the amount of red meat I eat, and over the last 3 weeks I've had a bit more energy so that might be worth trying? Also increased my vitamin C intake which could've helped, and drink a glass of OJ every time I eat something iron-rich as it's meant to help absorb it.

Hi, nice to meet everyone! I don't suppose anyone lives in North London? I'm 28 but don't have any friends on the baby journey yet so I really hope I meet some other mums!!

I'm just over 19 weeks now, due 24th Jan (week after my birthday so I hope he isn't early!) It's hard to say if I feel movement yet... I feel almost like bubbles in my tummy but nothing I could say is a "kick" > seems strange as we've had a few scans (complications) and he has been so so active!

Last few weeks I was ravenously hungry, never experienced anything like it and my bump has suddenly popped out, must have been on a growth spurt! My appetite has gone back to normally thankfully, was worried I'd be huge!

Trying to keep up exercise, I do about 4 yoga classes a week but the vinyasa classes definitely getting more difficult! I'm a lot slower now!

PellyBay · 31/08/2018 20:38

Hiya, pleased to meet you all. Congratulations, everyone! I'm due Jan 13. I've got 3 boys already, curious if this one will be a girl but quite happy for another boy if that's what happens... scan in 2 weeks...

Pelly8 · 02/09/2018 10:57

Hello all

Had my scan on Friday and it’s a boy (all the old wives tales were correct for me haha!!)

I get a bit achy at night but so far have not had any back pain thankfully. I recently bought a c-shaped pregnancy pillow online and I’m finding it quite comfortable (although I get really hot)

My midwife told me the only vitamins/supplements I need to take are vitamin D and iron so I haven’t been taking anything else. Maybe I should as I am also feeling exhausted- almost fell asleep at my desk the other day!

In terms of exercise, I try and go swimming twice a week for 20 mins but that is all I can manage these days!

Buttercup53 · 02/09/2018 11:38

Hi to all the newcomers to the thread, and congrats @pelly8 on your boy - the January babies are predominantly boys so far!

I nearly picked up what I think is a knock off sleepyhead in Aldi today (think it’s called a snuggle pod) but I can’t actually picture when I’d use it if anyone has any experience? I read that you can’t use them unless you’re awake so it’s for day time naps, and I plan on using one of those reclining bouncy chairs so I can rock him to sleep (if he’ll nap without being held anyway) but I know everyone raves about them, so I feel like I’m missing something! I also read they have to be on a flat secure surface which is basically the floor as far as I can tell? I think I’ve heard about people using them in bed, but whatever the circumstances we won’t be able to cosleep as my partner does that jerking thing people do when they’re dreaming that they’re falling, with his entire body and it’s every single night, repeatedly, so it’s never going to be safe in there.

OP posts:
GinGeum · 02/09/2018 12:27

Butter the only thing I would say to be cautious about with rocking baby to sleep is be careful not to end up with a baby that can only get to sleep if they are rocked IYKWIM? Those bouncy chairs are a godsend as somewhere to put them down where they can look around, and also for soothing them in the evening witching hour, but I might be tempted to have somewhere flat they can sleep during the day too if I were you... it might just make nap times easier when they’re older and you want to put them in their cot or whatever for a long lunch time sleep?

doleritedinosaur · 02/09/2018 12:28

Congratulations @pelly8 on your boy. Definitely a lot of them here.

@Buttercup53 they’re basically to create to womb feeling for babies as they’re used to being tightly enclosed however they’re not breathable so if the baby rolls over they stand the risk of suffocation hence why they can’t be used unattended.
I wish Aldi hadn’t sold them as it’s not really a big size or met half the safety standards the sleepyhead has.

I know the sleepyhead is made in Sweden & passed lots of safety checks & is supposed to have breathable materials.

They for use in the cot, Moses basket or floor so baby feels supported.

I can see why people are enticed by them as sleepyheads as so expensive but there’s sadly no regulations in place to stop them going on the market, like cot bumpers.

Annoyingly a lot of baby items require research which isn’t great when you’ve a million things being said at you & overwhelmed by how much you need.

Hope that helps.

My Braxton hicks have stepped up this morning. Hoping to get out for a walk before dinner as feeling a bit lazy this weekend.
Is anyone nesting yet?

Buttercup53 · 02/09/2018 12:37

Thanks both for the feedback! If I end up needing a sleepyhead I’ll go for the sleepyhead itself then, we picked up the aldi one and put it back being unable to picture a scenario we’d use it in, but I’m sure if we need one when he’s here I can order a proper one for next day delivery. I also know a few people with babies who will be over 1 by the time my son arrives so maybe I’ll ask if I can buy one second hand if they have no use for it. Totally see what you mean about needing to be rocked to sleep as well - I’m planning on getting a Moses basket for daytime naps anyway as were using a next to you cot for bedtime until he’s ready for his big cot. Does anyone know if those big flat attachments for the pram (is it called a carry cot?) are suitable for daytime naps while he’s little, as they look like big Moses baskets when I think about it...

OP posts:
GinGeum · 02/09/2018 13:48

Yes carrycots are fine for day time naps! We really need to get one of those bouncy chairs because I have nowhere to put baby down at the moment if he’s not asleep. Bit reluctant to use the floor because I’d have to lock the dogs out every time!

doleritedinosaur · 02/09/2018 15:18

It is a lot to figure out but some stuff is definitely worth waiting until baby is here but the carrycot of the pram is fine.

It’s car seats they can’t be in upright for more than 30 minutes at a time.

My eldest wouldn’t lie on his back as he was ventouse so his head was swollen & bruised. He was in the caboo & eventually went in a baby swing at 10 weeks. Sleeping at night was interesting but my health visitor came up with a safe solution.

Second went down with no fuss what so ever, could be fed to sleep or self settle. Now at 18 Months if we’re at home he climbs Into the pushchair with a blanket to go down for his nap.
But he didn’t like the swing but did the playmat.
I just used to bring the Moses basket down or put him on playmat to sleep.

My local Facebook group is full of sleepyheads at reduced prices barely used too. They’re great for things like swings/bouncers too.
I just can’t decide whether to get a swing before or after baby after last time.
