Late comer alert!!! 😬
This Monday I discovered at my first hospital scan I am 23 weeks pregnant- long story short; I had a MC at 6 to 7 weeks, confirmed by neg tests over the next 3 months- however I didn't miscarry as thought by midwife/docs & she has hung in there like a little fighter whilst I've been living life as normal!
Anyway -well over half way & now it's time to get over the shock & get planning!
Where do I even start?!!! 😆 x

doleritedinosaur · 27/09/2018 06:00

@irony congratulations!! That is such amazing news, you remained so positive throughout as well. Hope all the protein works so she grows & grows for you.

@Busyfool that must have been quite a shock.

My bladder just woke me up. I’ve been asleep since 9pm last night. Tiredness definitely hit yesterday.
I have however managed to do the pregnancy squat holds for as long as the instructor so my fitness is getting better than before I was pregnant.
I haven’t gained yet as I’ve lost 1.5 stone but I’ve eaten badly past 2 weeks so going to get back to healthy eating in evenings again.
My bump is my smallest out of the three pregnancies even though my stomach muscles are completely gone.

Pelly8 · 27/09/2018 07:02

@ironytheoppositeofwrinkly and @busyfool what good news for both, hope it all goes well!

@busyfool oh goodness me, I’m 25 weeks now and I’m still utterly clueless 🙈 I haven’t bought any essentials yet, I’ve just bought a nice baby outfit from TK Maxx because it looked adorable. I think next on my list will be baby grows and things for the hospital bag???

Random question but how did people end up losing weight during pregnancy? Was it through morning sickness? I’m just curious as it couldn’t seem to pile on quick enough with me (but I have been very liberal with my eating!).

purplesmiler · 27/09/2018 07:51

Welcome @Busyfool and wow she is definitely a fighter congratulations.

I've bought a pram and a few clothes mainly that are from a charity shop got some lovely bargains. Want to get our nursery decorated before buying much more.

HolDaws · 27/09/2018 08:24

I am thinking that about that weight loss! I have put on a stone but really fallen out of love with the gym and I love with bread during pregnancy! Going to go swimming tonight as know I'll feel better for it x

doleritedinosaur · 27/09/2018 08:33

@Pelly8 I’ve lost weight as I had a shock with my BMI so I went back to meal planning, eating more fruit & doing a lot more exercise.
But I did have a horrendous stomach bug which I the majority of the stone went with & it took me a while to get appetite back.

I’ve lost more since then but I also think running around 2 toddlers attributes to that as well as yoga. I’ve not been able to get to the outdoor gym as much this month.

For me being as active as possible means a better birth as I was very ill with my first with sepis & liver issues so had been on bed rest for 2 weeks. Birth was okay but I felt out of control & the consultant made me stay on my back as did midwife.
Whereas with my second I did yoga, stayed active & did hypnobirthing. The birth was amazing & I was more in control.

But really don’t focus on weight or what you do or don’t do. It’s finding your happy medium, if I’m hungry I will eat. I find I’m more hungry for growth periods then go back to normal.
Everyone is different & you just have to find what works for you.

Pelly8 · 27/09/2018 08:56

Thank you @doleritedinosaur - you are totally right! They key is to find a happy medium and what works!

Pelly8 · 27/09/2018 08:57

Ps sorry to hear you were so ill with your first - glad to hear second was better. I am going to start weekly pregnancy yoga a go and might try hypno birthing!

Ironytheoppositeofwrinkly · 27/09/2018 09:09

busyfool kinda in the same position but a week behind you. Was convinced my baby wasn't going to make it, so have bought nothing. Gonna order my pram and cot next week, some bottles just in case breast feeding doesn't work out, and a tin or 2 of formula, and then it's just clothes, nappies and wipes and a changing mat.

Rarfy · 27/09/2018 09:28

We've ordered our pram. Ordered the hyde crib and mattress for 0-6 months sleeping. Then been adding vests, towels and babygrows to weekly shop.

Have most of our nursery stuff already which we bought in previous pregnancy but never got chance to use. Need a cot and wardrobe or drawers but were hopefully moving in the next month so not going to bother with anything like that until can get nursery ready.

We're really lucky that our close friends and family are really rooting for us after all our bad luck so are going a little overboard with buying stuff which is really lovely.

Quirkycutekitch2011 · 27/09/2018 09:28

dole how did you learn about hypnobirthing? I had an Elective C section last time so I have no clue about giving birth & i’ve heard it’s good.

We still haven’t bought a thing for the baby (apart from 2 cute outfits) Me and DP were looking at the baby things in the Smyth’s catalogue & he said - we done need any of that we haven’t got a baby 🙈

Rarfy · 27/09/2018 09:43

My hospital offer a hypnobirthing course @Quirkycutekitch2011 details of it are on the back of my maternity notes folder but your midwife should be able to point you in the right direction and i imagine it will be touched upon in antenatal classes.

Can also buy lots of resources online and i bet there is even an app for it (not looked). I think the course my hospital offer is around £80.

GinGeum · 27/09/2018 11:08

Is anyone else actually quite looking forward to giving birth? I’m sure it will get scarier the nearer I am to due date Grin I’m just really intrigued to see how it will go. I also don’t seem to have any of the ‘normal’ worries like will I cope with a baby etc. I seem to spend all my time worrying that something bad will happen to DH! I think it’s maybe because the newborn onwards stage is familiar to me but this pregnancy part isn’t, so I’m probably just yearning for some familiarity.

Rarfy · 27/09/2018 12:57

I wouldnt say i am looking forward to the birth bit aoart from obviously having baby here but i'm not worried about it. I am however open to all the drugs so maybe that's why. I am quite looking forward to gas and air though.

doleritedinosaur · 27/09/2018 13:02

@pelly8 you’ll find tat with parenting too, a happy medium.
Thank you, I had a really bad reaction to antibiotics it turned out I didn’t need & liver decided to shut down. But made it to induction at 37 weeks & everything was fine.

@quirky I came across it being mentioned on mumsnet while I was TTC DS2 then went to the library early pregnancy & looked at different books.
I really like Mindful hypnobirthing by Sophie Fletcher & just used the book daily with yoga.
I don’t do courses as it’s a lot of money for me to pay out while saving for a house.

But the focus it gives you, is fantastic. They even have a section on c section births in my book as you can still use the exercises to keep you focused while on the table etc.

@Gin I will be once I’ve got house organised Grin. I figure I’ve got 16 weeks left so need to get it all done by Christmas.
But it will get faster during third trimester, until 37 weeks when it’s full term then every day is so long!

So tired these past few days, everything is a chore. I’ve stuck to taking iron but I’ve let myself get dehydrated accidentally which isn’t helping.

Merrz · 27/09/2018 15:45

GinGeum me!! I think maybe more intrigued than looking forward to it but same i don't feel worried about once baby is here but i can't wait to see what giving birth/labour is actually like.
I'm 24 weeks tomorrow and haven't bought anything yet, i think because i seem to be managing to keep occupied with organising my house just now and time seems to be flying by so figure i'l leave the shopping until 3rd trimester so it'll hopefully make it go by quick too.

Harrypotterfan1604 · 27/09/2018 18:10

I’m not at all looking forward to the birth. I feel very worried about it already but mainly worried about needing a c section. The thought of it really really freaks me out so I’m Putting it to the back of my mind for now x

Ironytheoppositeofwrinkly · 28/09/2018 07:41

My labour and birth with my son was horrendous, so it literally cannot get any worse or any longer than I've already had.

purplesmiler · 28/09/2018 08:18

Haven't thought too much about birth yet but I do keep asking my sister and Mum questions about it from their experiences.

Rarfy · 28/09/2018 09:57

I asked my dm about all her births (5) last week. She had a variety tbh but nothing sounded horrendous. She was a young mam though so i bet that makes a difference.

Just gave in and ordered a maternity coat (was 5degrees this morning). Off to buy a coming home outfit this afternoon for baby too. Buying little bits for her keeps me going so am really enjoying that side.

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 28/09/2018 10:58

23 weeks here and just EXHAUSTED all the time Sad

In bed for 9pm every night but the 3+ trips to the loo through the night is taking its toll. I had low iron so I'm in 2 x ferrous fumarate 210mg each day but i really don't think it is having an impact.

Pram is sat in the spare room and nursery furniture ordered - we took advantage of good offers and decent cash back through DH's company reward scheme.

Bump is coming along but I have a high BMI and am technically still in my normal clothes (due to a significant weight loss in the first 3 months) with the help of elastic waist expanders. Tried maternity pants on last weekend and they just fell down! I have a B Bump (and the top half, the "food belly" is bigger than the "baby belly" cos baby has pushed all the organs up to selfishly make room for herself) but I think I am starting to "look" pregnant. I certainly feel it!

Not felt any movements yet but I have a lot of padding and an anterior placenta so I am not worried at the moment.

My sister has had one horrible 29 hour labour and an elective cesarean (due to issues during the first) but even she freely admits that she has a ridiculously low pain threshold and was screaming for an epidural as soon as she felt the first twinge. Mum has had 3 kids with labours lasting 4.5 hours, 4 hours and 30 minutes so I am hoping I will take after her... seeing as I have definitely inherited the family wide set hips! Grin

I am at that stage where I worry I won't love it enough or know what to do with it... but I think I am getting there!

Rarfy · 28/09/2018 11:02

Sound like you are getting organised @AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson. Very exciting.

I have been the same on the exhaustion front. Always asleep by 9.30 and struggling through the days. Worries me a little as it's bound to get worse as baby gets bigger.

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 28/09/2018 11:43

@Rarfy I know what you mean! I'm still waiting for the second trimester eneygy to kick in. If it is this bad now, how bad will I feel in a few weeks!

Buttercup53 · 28/09/2018 14:28

I’m not sure if anyone will remember my update from a while back, but I’ve recently had to have multiple biopsies as I had symptoms of breast cancer. I had the results today and I don’t have it! They’re not actually sure what I do have as they prioritised checking for cancer, so my tissue is undergoing further investigation, but whatever it is, it’s not cancer. Feel like I’ve been given a new lease of life, the past 2 weeks have easily been the hardest I’ve been through emotionally, wondering what would happen with my baby if I did have cancer, and all those other sad thoughts I won’t drag up now. It’s put everything into perspective for me, and all I want now is to do my very best to have a healthy and enjoyable pregnancy. Said to my mum I wish I could celebrate with a drink tonight! But we went for a posh brunch instead.

@Buttercup53 That's a relief, so pleased for you. Couldn't even begin to imagine the thoughts that would've passed your mind in the lead up to your results!
