I'm abserloutly petrified. Second c section, I'm up and shaking. Hardly any sleep, I'm worrying like mad. I know i get to meet my baby today but the thought of the actual operation and the spinal are making me feel so sick and scared. Anyone else having their baby today?

No but I had a planned section 6 years ago. It was fine, all very slowly done and talked me through it. Think they did a local before the spinal if I recall correctly and it just felt a cut cold when I had it done - not a problem at all. I had a lovely anaesthetist who talked to me all the time and made me feel much calmer - you'll be fine and you'll meet your baby before you know it! Section itself just feels like somebody is rummaging around a bit but hardly felt a thing, certainly no pain at all. There was a drape like curtain so I couldn't see anything so was just talking away to my husband and the anaesthetist - Enjoy your baby's birthday 🎁

flumpybear · 19/07/2018 05:19

*felt a bit cold (not cut cold!)

SamanthaH92 · 19/07/2018 05:31

Yes i remember the rummerging around lol. My stomach is churning so bad. I'm hoping I'm not going to ring up at 7am and they say they can't fit me in because I'm desperate for a sleep. I'd just be worrying until i have her. Its been a long few weeks of worrying x

I wrote a long post and lost it! Just to say my dil is in for an elective today (first baby and first grandchild eek) and was having a bad time of it last night. Wish I could wave a magic wand for you both but I'm afraid you just have to go through it to get to the wonderful result. Now (and you can shoot me down!) do you have a favourite book, music, film you could lose yourself in for a few minutes. They do some good guided meditation on YouTube whether that is your sort of thing usually give it a go now - it can't hurt. Rationally you know what happens and it is safe but naturally you are having a wobble. Wishing you and your family all the best (and look, nearly an hour has gone by since you posted) for today and every day Smile

Fightthebear · 19/07/2018 05:54

In my experience it’s the best way of giving birth, so try and feel pleased about that. It’s still stressful though I know.

Fingers crossed it all happens for you today.

Phillipa12 · 19/07/2018 06:12

You are not alone, ive had 4 and with numbers 2,3 and 4 i was petrified. Everybody is so lovely though if you tell them how nervous you are and it does take away some of the fear. I look at it as its 45 mins, an episode of csi and then its over and for half of that im holding a baby.

nervousseacreature · 19/07/2018 06:22

This was me a few months ago. I was so nervous but it all went fine.

Wishing you good luck today, new baby cuddles soon!

SamanthaH92 · 19/07/2018 06:55

4? Wow brave lady lol. I literally don't know what to do with my self. I will be telling them how petrified i am. I've tried distracting my self but nothing works.

Deep breathing got me through the spinal! Just try to really focus on long deep breaths if you can. For my second csection, the baby was with me as soon as they had done the initial checks and wrapped him up - that was a great distraction Smile I had to wait until 4pm for my c section as there was a twin c section ahead of me and of course any emergencies take priority. If you have a tablet, download some lighthearted movie/series to distract you during the day. Good luck☘️ (And forget flip flops and enormous Lycra knickers!!)

Gooseysgirl · 19/07/2018 06:57

That should read DON'T forget!!!

Gooseysgirl · 19/07/2018 06:58

And keep posting here if you like... there'll lots of people along to handhold I'm sure 😊

Fatted · 19/07/2018 07:01

Good luck. Hope all goes well.

I've had 2 sections and my second elective was by far a much more pleasant experience than my first. I was more nervous about my second though. I wasn't out of it on pain relief for a start! Then I'd also had more complications with the pregnancy so was a bit more on edge and I was also worried about something going wrong and leaving my DS1.

It all went fine and straightforward. I had a much more pleasant experience, and much better recovery afterwards as well.

Good luck again!

Stephiewoo · 19/07/2018 07:02

I hope all goes well. I'm booking in today for my 2nd c section. Again just as you are absolutely petrified of the spinal already and mine is probably 2 weeks away!
I can't explain why I'm just so scared. I did a runner from theatre last time and it took time to calm me, once it was done though everything went accordingly and baby was In my arms in minutes.

Will be thinking of you today, sorry I have no ideas of help though.x

SamanthaH92 · 19/07/2018 07:09

I'm defiently not calm. I've been trying to ring the labour ward for 20 minutes. Line is busy each time so cannot get through. I'm ment to go in at half but have to ring and check first. Making me worry more and stress 😞

They don't want us in till 8am now. Was hoping to go in and get down and it over with lol. I'm knackered, my eyes are burning and I'm making my self panick more. Yes thats my main concern what if something happens as i already have 1 DD and shes only 2. I had an awful experiance last time with the after care so I'm dreading it more. How long did you all stay in for?

MrsBobDylan · 19/07/2018 07:35

Op you will be absolutely fine. Feeling anxious is entirely understandable but you have got a long day ahead and you need to try and conserve your energy.

The technique I use to control my anxiety is to concentrate on what's around me - how does it feel, smell, what can I see, what can I hear etc. I do this when I get that overwhelming feeling of dread and it really helps.

I have had 3 CS and they have all gone totally fine with no problems. Just be ready to ask for more pain relief if you need it afterwards and you'll be up and about in no time.

You can do this! I remember that sickening feeling of fear before each cs then that amazing feeling of joy when that beautiful baby was shown to me. It will all be worth it. You will be fine.

BrutusMcDogface · 19/07/2018 09:06

Good luck! You'll be fine Flowers

SamanthaH92 · 19/07/2018 10:39

Thank you all. Been pushed back till this afternoon so hopefully it will be over soon xx

Readyfortheschoolhols · 19/07/2018 10:43

Try and get some sleep for now!!

SamanthaH92 · 19/07/2018 11:25

I tried and litrally got 10 minutes. I was hoping for morning but they said it would be 5 mins every 10 mins and then they said we will be back for you in a minute then an emergancy, which obviously cannot be helped. My only concern is because I'm having it now in the afternoon i will have to stay in longer and i don't want that x

OP posts:
DaenerysismyQueen · 19/07/2018 11:33

Literally had one two weeks ago, was a great experience. Everyone was so calm as it wasn't an emergency like last time. Everyone was chatting and laughing and nothing beats the sound of hearing your baby cry for the first time! Honestly don't worry!

SamanthaH92 · 19/07/2018 12:32

Thank you. Been told i have 20 minutes so now I'm really getting panicked lol. I hop3 everything goes good. I can't wait to go home. How long did you all stay in hospital for?

OP posts:
Phillipa12 · 19/07/2018 12:41

Anywhere from 36-48 hrs, enjoy even though you are petrified and take it very easy afterwards.....toddlers have not died from watching too much tv and eating biscuits!

SiolGhoraidh · 19/07/2018 12:45

Best of luck, and hope you're shortly enjoying your first cuddle!

SamanthaH92 · 19/07/2018 12:51

Ah we are being made to wait longer again. Super stressing!! Now waiting for all staff to switch over and re do all paper work because of new staff before anything can happen. If i knew this was going to happen i would off stayed home longer
