I'm abserloutly petrified. Second c section, I'm up and shaking. Hardly any sleep, I'm worrying like mad. I know i get to meet my baby today but the thought of the actual operation and the spinal are making me feel so sick and scared. Anyone else having their baby today?

Sounds like you need gas and air!! Your baby will be here soon - in fact get a drink and you're bound to be called to go then Wink

SamanthaH92 · 19/07/2018 13:16

I wish lol! I am so thirsty i could cry. Its very very hot in this hospital and i have a banging headache. Everybody has dissapeared. The emergancy c section has been out for an hour and a half maybe a bit more. So god knows what they are doing but I'm debating going home and asking them if they could just ring when they are sorted. I litrally live across the road. Surley the stress of them saying we are ready? No you'll have to wait. 5 minutes is bad for me when my blood pressure is already high

I was kept in for two nights, although I could have gone home after one.

Have you gone in yet? Hope you're enjoying your baby now x

SamanthaH92 · 19/07/2018 21:39

Yes was taken in near two and there for almost 2 and a half hours. I was im floods of tears. So different to last time and much more painful. Bad reaction so was itching uncontrollably. Also throwing up everywhere. Itching has just calmed down and i have just got on to the ward now x

Thank you all. Any tips for recovery this time? Finding this time a lot worse. My incesion on the right side feels like it will split open

Just take it easy and take your painkillers, drink plenty and eat well.
I chose to stay in hospital for 2 days to recover a bit before going home.
Don’t push yourself too hard but do keep active, walk tall!

Roomba · 20/07/2018 09:20

Bless you, you poor thing. I was pretty shocked by how painful it was after the spinal wore off, the first time (second time was so much better). Throwing up will be very sore!

Only tips I can give are - you will FEEL like your insides are literally about to fall out of your incision. They won't! There's so many layers of stitching holding you together underneath, so don't panic! Also, the straighter you can stand and walk, the better (even if it hurts like hell straightening up at first). You'll recover much faster, and you won't end up with raging backache as well in a few days time! Take every painkiller offered and if they forget to offer, ask! Take them before the pain really kicks in - much easier to prevent it developing too far than to ease the pain once it has got too bad.

Its my right hand side of my scar thats the worst. I litrally feel like its going to rip open its so so tight. I never had this first time round at all x

Samantha- assuming you're still in hospital, tell the midwives you're in lots of pain Flowers

SamanthaH92 · 20/07/2018 15:07

I've managed to walk round more and do stuff for my self so head midwife is discharging me tonight with tablets to help. They are keen to get you out today x

OP posts:
SamanthaH92 · 20/07/2018 17:27

Midwife says I've over done it walking around and that's why I'm in pain x

nervousseacreature · 23/07/2018 16:00

How are you feeling op?

SamanthaH92 · 23/07/2018 16:17

Very sore but managing on mainly paracetomol bit of ibrofen now and again. Forgot how tiny these babies are lol. Cannot breast feed. Its like my nipples have vanished so she can no longer latch on. Finding that pretty upsetting as really wanted to breast feed this time. Thinking of putting a complaint in against the hospital for many reasons. X

nervousseacreature · 23/07/2018 19:33

I’d forgotten how small they are too! They feel so fragile.
Has the mw checked your stitches? I stuck rigidly to the medication schedule hospital gave me, I wasn’t ever in pain, just uncomfy and slow. Take it easy (I know, easier said than done!)

That’s a shame about bf. If you want to persevere you could try La Leche League or kellymom website? I’ve heard them both talked about as helpful with bf. Fed is best though, whatever you choose! X

SamanthaH92 · 23/07/2018 19:53

Nope no body has checked my stitches. I get my partner to check daily though incase but he always says it looks fine. Waited in all day for midwife for them to ring at 2:30 and say they were not coming. Don't know when we next see one though. Bit of a pain really as i have a 2 year old and even if we want to take her to soft play and me just sit there we cant incase they come. Yeah i feel like i will break her when picking her up lol. I know i won't and although she was 8lb 7oz she looks tiny to me and i was expecting a 10lb+ baby lol x

I had my baby last Thursday too after a pretty horrific labour and subsequent Emergency section. I was in hospital until Saturday afternoon and i found the pain quite bad up until today. I've found that staying on top of the pain killers really is a must! As well as not over doing it... today is the first day I've made a real conscious effort not to and it's really helped.
When I was in hospital I was on oramorph but when I left I opted to try cocodamol which tbh didn't help an awful lot, was in tears after a 10 minute car journey! Had midwife yesterday who could see I was in a lot of pain and she suggested I try adding in ibuprofen and combining the 2, and I'd have to say it's really done the trick because it means I can have something pretty much every 2 hours that I'm awake.
Drink plenty, make a point of sitting for a few hours a day and after doing anything strenuous, but if you're struggling I'd contact the doctors for something stronger

nervousseacreature · 23/07/2018 22:02

Can’t believd the midwife just cancelled like that. Hope you’re managing to get some sleep, drinking plenty and eating well.

SamanthaH92 · 23/07/2018 22:40

Managing sleep yes and eating very well lol. I was sick every day towards the end. I wish the midwifes would say what time they are coming though, i think they come tomorrow because its day 5 but they just sat between 8am and 5pm which is so annoying x

OP posts:
nervousseacreature · 23/07/2018 22:50

I know and it’s not that you necessarily want to go out, but knowing you can’t is v annoying! Hopefully you’ll see someone early tomorrow and get your stitches checked.
And haven’t said but hope baby is also doing well! X

unicorncow · 24/07/2018 00:00

Congratulations on the birth of your baby! I'm feeling the same way about my planned c-section, I've given birth naturally lots of times but my youngest was a c-section due to scar tissue on my cervix from cold coagulation treatment after an abnormal smear and colposcopy. I'm 37 weeks just now and booked in for 2 weeks time, I'm totally panicking about it already :(

Anydaynow2 · 24/07/2018 07:28

Bless you, no advice but want to say good luck! You'll be fine and baby with you soon. Yey!!!!

Gooseysgirl · 24/07/2018 09:14

After my second c section the hospital sent me home from with paracetamol - this I would take for a hangover and not after major abdominal surgery!!! I promptly sent DH to the GP for Diclofenac - this was the drug I was given at a different hospital after my first c section and it's wonderful stuff! Ask for a phone consult with your GP for stronger pain relief if you need it.
