I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Pob13 Welcome. A couple of good days can happen suddenly, and worry people. How long along are you? It very likely is just that; however, if you are really worried, is it possible to get a quick scan for reassurance? I do feel for you; this sort of anxiety is miserable.
Ttc2017 Welcome. Sorry you feel so bad. I am not sure about dosages, but doubtless someone on metaclopramide will be able to advise you soon. It might be an idea, exhausting as it is, dragging yourself to the medical centre, to ask for another anti emetic in the hope that it will help you to function. A lot of people find a good anti acid like ranitidine or omprazole helps a lot. Is there anyone, a friend or neighbor or relative, who can help you out? How old are the dc's?
Have you got kesostix - available from any chemists - to help check for the early stages of dehydration? Some liquids that you might try, which have helped others on here. Full sugar coke, flat (or if diabetic, like TwoDrifters diet), the juice of tinned fruit, ice lollies, Elderflower Water, soda water, fizzy water, Lucoazade, lemonade, fizzy orange, orange squash, orange juice (if not too acid), Robinsons fruit drinks, Dr Pepper and sips of chocolate milkshake- maybe soya. For foods of a sort, some find these bearable: cheap ice cream, cuppa soup, nibbles of crisps and chips, tinned fruit - especially peaches - I swore by pears, baked potatoes, Scotch pancakes and slices of melon and mango.
Notquiteagandt I am so glad you got fluids, and had a doctor who showed you that you are a Warrior Woman. That indeed is what woman on here are - real Amazons Smile. 'This Too Shall Pass' indeeed. I so agree with you and TwoDrfiters . The lack of understanding is sitll unfortuantely high (although it is getting better).
On the graphic on my introductory post, as there are so many new people I thought I ought to explain it. As a chld, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with a magical pink castle in the clouds on the last square. As the experience of Hypermesis is like a horrible form of board game - bile run, down a snake, a good day, up a ladder, I thought of a pink castle as being symbolic of the end of that dismal journey.
I hope everyone is coping today. Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

LucindaE im 15+4. I have my 16wk checkup on monday so might see if she can listen to the heartbeat. Cant really afford a scan.

LucindaE · 12/07/2018 20:45

Pop13 At this stage, it might well be a good couple of days which are a sign of more to come then. Much sympathy over having to wait for reassurance.

From 6 weeks to 6 months I was awful with HG, at the worst I was sick 8x before lunchtime! Anti-sickness injections gave some temp relief. Then at 6 months it just lifted, was heavenly being able to keep food down again. My problem was not so much eating it was it staying down, was normal for me to have 3/4 attempts at breakfast over 2 hours Confused.

Third lot of anti sickness I was given were buccastem and could put them under my top lip so they finally helped a bit (anything else I just threw up). Lived on lemonade, ice lollies (no ice cream dear god no) and melon. Now nearly 8 months and have HUGE sympathy for anyone still going through the misery of HG hell. Everyone’s different with how long it lasts but it will pass... eventually.

Sending hugs, flat lemonade (sprite not 7up for some reason!) and sick bags with no holes in them....

LucindaE · 13/07/2018 16:08

lynzpynz Thank you so much for your encouraging message for current sufferers. It is interesting what foods suit who. I am glad you found buccastem good and that the sickness finally eased off. I know some find ice cream unbearable, others swear by it (has to be the cheap, though!)
Pob13 How are symptoms?
I stupidly forgot to add that Blondeshavemorefun who was on this thread a while ago, found that image of the fabled pink castle symbolic of the end of the Hyperemesis horror experience.

@LucindaE it is so weird how some foods really help for some but are a complete no-no for others. I was a lurker on similar threads on here and found the advice really helpful and comforting to know I wasn’t alone so thankyou for keeping the threads going!

I would also say to anyone still suffering, it is ‘normal’ to feel miserable! Anyone feeling / being constantly sick for days, weeks, months has every reason to feel down, isolated and like it will never end. Never let anyone trivialise what you’re going through just because ‘they don’t get it’. I don’t think anyone really does until they’ve been through it. I was really lucky as my hub was so supportive and doc signed me onto no work travel (I can work from home mercifully although is a major pain in the ass for my job!). I consider myself a very strong person but even I was in floods of tears after being sick in my doctors office, on a plane with unsympathetic staff, in my own car driving to docs, in 2 taxis (v sympathetic drivers as I had by then taken to carrying emergency sick bags with me!), in hospital car park on my way to my scans and even when sitting bolt upright trying to will it to stay down! Never feel bad about feeling bad, however long it lasts. Ask for (and accept!) all the help you can get from work, docs, family and friends.

Utmost respect to those suffering with other small children to look after as well - you are heroes!!

LucindaE · 13/07/2018 19:24

lymnyz I am so glad this thread helped, and you are so right about the humiliating, isolating nature of this illness, and that everyone suffering has a right to feel really hard done by! I always call it 'the scourge'. It is very bad that the staff on a plane were unsympathetic.

@LucindaE thanks for asking. I am 3 days with no sickness and feeling fine. I still have a few other pregnancy symptons, so Im hoping i have just turned a corner and the sickness has stopped. I dont know whether to stop the cyclizine or keep taking it for a bit longer just incase. I only have one tablet first thing. What do you think?

LucindaE · 13/07/2018 21:36

Pob13 It's good about the oher pregnancy symptoms. I wonder: if you are disturbed about the decrease in sickness, you might feel it worthwhile skipping a dose just to see if those awful symptoms come back to some extent?

OP posts:
Pob13 · 13/07/2018 22:31

@LucinaE yes i think i might try it over the weekend as we have nothing planned.

Mustang27 · 14/07/2018 04:50

Sorry if I missed anyone else reaching the pink castle.

Oh Dead if you are still about Christopher is such a cutie I'm glad you are feeling a bit better and hopefully you are still managing to get the rest you need.

Mustang That is such a lovely picture! So sweet. Thank you so much for coming on to encourage others, having arrived at the fabled pink castle at the end of the Hyperemesis horror game. Your picture shows how it is worth it.
Pop12 All luck with your experiment. Do let us know how things go.
How is everyone? We had thunderstorms here yesterday - clue a migraine from me - but it's still warm and unsettled weather. I hope the heat is less oppressive for those suffering.

Notquiteagandt · 14/07/2018 11:04

Boredoftryingusernames · 14/07/2018 16:17

Lovely picture Mustang! Thanks for reminding us all it's so worth it in the end.
Last full day at work yesterday, just one more half day shift to go next week and then maternity leave starts, thank goodness!

LucindaE · 14/07/2018 21:23

Mustang I have to say again, so sweet.
Boredoftryingusernames That's goodnews about maternity leave. I hope you are still feeling ok-ish.
Notqutieagandt How are things now?

OP posts:
Notquiteagandt · 14/07/2018 21:48

@LucindaE

Thanks for asking. I am managing to keep down a little food and a bit of fluid which is a vast improvement.

I am hoping as I am now 9 weeks the placenta is starting to take over a little. That is why I am seeing a little relief.

Still being sick around 10-15 times a day. But it is a million x better.

My blood pressure has been very very low the last few days. So just working on getting that up. As dont think thats been helping this feeling of complete weakness. (If anyone has any tips??)

Question for you ladies.

I have my mw booking in appointment next week. Is HG usually a reason they will put you as consultant led? I have already been warned it is likely due to my BMI being so low. But just want to be prepared. As I was really hoping for a birthing centre but this is looking more and more unlikely.

LucindaE · 14/07/2018 22:37

Notquiteagandt Ten to fifteen times a day is awful; is that sessions of heaving, or individual heaves? The reason I ask, is doctors often count each heave as a vomit, so often they don't realise how many times sufferers are actually being sick. I think it was you who said that they won't prescribe Ondansetron: were Pregnancy Sickness Support able to offer any suggestions? I am glad that you are able to drink and eat a little - but it sounds bad. I don't know if vitamin drops would be any use for weakness, as I don't know if y ou can retain them. What did you say about anti acids earlier? Sorry - this seems to be a series of questions!

OP posts:
Notquiteagandt · 14/07/2018 22:50

Thats times I am bringing stuff up. Proper vomitig. (Mainly bile!) Sessions of heaving. I am dry heaving pretty much constantly though. Everytime I move.

This is a vast vast vast improvement though. As last few weeks I have not even be able to keep down anything or any fluids being sick around 40+ times a day.

So far I have tried cyclizine, metoclopramide, & prochloroerazine. None really seem to work.

But things do seem to be getting better 🤞

The only thing I seem to find that works is fluids and an anti sickness injection. But the hospital wont admit me unless my ketones are above 2. Thankfully I have not been in ketoacidos that high this week.

Drs have basicly said I need to keep working through things until I find something that works.

Starting steroids soon though. Which are meant to be good. So we shall see 🤞

I honnestly wouldnt wish this on my worse enemy!!

Hotchocolate86 · 15/07/2018 02:00

Hi notquite steroids were brilliant for me so I really hope they prove as good for you.

Ttc2017 · 15/07/2018 13:40

Did any one find vitamin b6 helps that's my next thing I'm going to try seriously need some energy to can barely move

LucindaE · 15/07/2018 14:14

Notquiteagandt It sounds as if you have been suffering horribly. I do hope the steroids help you as they did Hotchocolate.
Ttc I believe that several people do find that it helps a bit as long as they can retain it.

OP posts:
Ttc2017 · 15/07/2018 17:31

Can u buy it over the counter in chemists or do you need a prescription

Pob13 · 15/07/2018 19:49

LucindaE my experiment failed. I was sick yesterday and today. I will keep taking the cyclizine for a bit longer and see how i go.

LucindaE · 15/07/2018 22:03

Ttc Normally you can buy it from a chemists. I can't believe, as it is recommended for pregnancy sickness, that they would refuse to sell it to a pregnant woman.
Pob Sorry you cannot manage without cyclizine, but this is surely a good sign for the pregnancy being OK?
