I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Silversplodge your post just cropped up to me after I posted mine. So sorry you are going through this and hope all ok xxx

beanhunter · 09/10/2018 19:24

What’s even worse than having hyperemesis and being on steroids with a line? That’s right having your elder child sent home from school with vomiting. I am not loving life.

SeaEagleFeather · 09/10/2018 19:50

foody what a beautiful baby! congratulations on getting through the pregnancy with such a lovely result :)

silver fingers and toes crossed for you.

forever HG is so lonely. No one gets it except the people here and the odd one irl who experienced it. Post whenever you need to and know that at least here, we get it.

beanhunter did you break a mirror recently? you're really having more than your fair share of bad luck

wishing everyone a peaceful night and sleeping a few more hours away

tinyradish · 09/10/2018 22:02

E-hugs to all having a hard time.

Silver that is a horrendous experience - so sorry you had to go through that. Hope everything's OK.

LucindaE · 09/10/2018 22:08

Foodylicious What a lovely baby! Grin Flowers Star So happy you have your prize. We'll miss you, when you've been so helpful.
silversplodge That sounds so traumatic. It's good about the heartbeat, but they're being insensitive refusing a scan so you can see what's going on. Do keep us informed.
beanhunter Poor you. Oh dear. Hugs if required.
eallison Sorry it's started.
foreverblues It is very isolating. You will get through it and have a normal life again. Much sympathy.
Waves Mamabear SeaEagleFeather TwoDriftrs and everyone.

Thank you lucinda - coping some days & not so much others! The 'good' days are bearable. Hope you're well.

eallison88 · 10/10/2018 20:40

Hi all, I do hope everyone has coped reasonably well today. I fell off the cliff overnight/this morning. Couldn't keep anything down so made an apt with GP for this morning. Took hubby with me as a help. I love the GP I saw. I told him about last pregnancy, that only ondansetron made any difference, that I've been taking cyclizine since peeing on the stick. He took my vitals, asked me to provide a sample. By the time I got back from the loo he was signing a prescription for 42 tabs of ondansetron. He was just so kind to me. He made me feel like I deserved to have the 'good drugs' and saw me as the expert in my pregnancy.

So I'm now on ondansetron and cyclizine. I still feel really sick but not been sick since ondansetron. I'm really hoping that having the ondansetron so early will mean I don't get as dehydrated and ill as last time. Fingers crossed. In my head if I can just get thru to half term (week on friday) I'll be ok.

It also made me really angry on behalf of all the women who battle HG without supportive doctors or the appropriate drugs. The lottery of hit and miss care is frankly appalling. I'm so sorry.

LucindaE · 10/10/2018 21:16

tinyradish Glad things could be worse! Never worry ab out Mother Hen. My days with Hypermesis are a distant nightmare...Wink

17 weeks here and feeling down that 4 different anti-emetics don't work for me, but GP not happy to prescribe me anything stronger... :(

polkadotpolarbear · 10/10/2018 22:41

Hi, nearly 7 weeks into 3rd pregnancy. The worst ms so far. Feeling lousy, been prescribed Stemetil and it's just about taking the edge off and stopping me vomiting as often but I still can't function enough to look after 2 small children and am sick 2-3x a day. I feel really out of it. I have another drs appointment on Friday. Where do I go from here? Should I ask to try something else or do I need to accept this is what it's going to be like for the next 15ish weeks? Any advice?

eallison88 · 11/10/2018 06:46

polka what meds have you had so far? Is it just stematil? Some women have success with metochlopromide. Most women respond to ondansetron, but for some reason many GPs are reluctant to prescribe it. I discovered yesterday that it's actually much cheaper than it used to be, so some trusts are changing their policy on it slightly. But, unfortunately, there are still many areas where GPs are reluctant to prescribe. Which is frankly ridiculous as for many women with HG it's the only drug that makes any difference at all. Do I would suggest asking for that. It's an off label prescription (ie not designed or tested for hyperemesis or pregnant women) but it's been used safely by many women for many years.

I can't imagine how difficult it is to feel so rotten and look after 2 little ones (I've just got the one 3 year old to take care of) . Is there any family/friends who could help out a bit? One of the things that helped me so much last time was getting cleaner (we kept her, she still comes 3 and a half years on!). It lowered my stress levels which helped.

polkadotpolarbear · 11/10/2018 07:35

Thanks I'll push for something else at the drs tomorrow. It's the difficult period where I haven't told anyone apart from one friend who has a hectic life and her own lg. All family are either to far away or too frail to help out much and we haven't told them yet. I was convinced it would be mind over matter this time but it seems I forget inbetween pregnancies just how horrible and debilitating it is Sad I'm almost at a point where I want to tell people so I can stop making excuses for why I can't do things. I hadn't thought about a cleaner but it might be worth it thank you!

Haylzt28 · 11/10/2018 09:26

Hi everyone, I don't even know how to start here, I'm suffering with hypremasis and it is killing me! I'm soo at the end of my tether, I'm already taking 2 types of anti sickness tablet but the vomiting has started back with a vengeance after a 2 week break from when I was put on the second set of tablets. It seems that they only worked for a few weeks but then the sickness comes back! I am unable to do anything at all, other than lay in bed and groan loudly! I truly am at my whits end!

8DaysAWeek · 11/10/2018 09:56

Had a shower this morning and washed my hair!! Winning! It has totally wiped me out though. Think my hair was starting to nest a bird and her chicks though so it was needed.

Have requested new meds as cyclizine hasn't done anything expect make me feel dizzy so we'll see what the next step is.

Anyone else constantly battling the "should I/shouldn't I eat something" dilemma? It's just a lottery these days of what stays down and what doesn't :( but I feel awful if I don't eat.

Sorry to everyone else suffering today Flowers

SassehMonsta · 11/10/2018 12:50

I can't tell if I feel better or worse on the Cyclzine vs the Stemtil. I still have semi-constant nausea, but could eat more on Stemtil. Grazing on dry biscuits and trying to keep it down.

Big waves to the rest of you, as I can't read back properly as lacking in concentration.

eallison88 · 11/10/2018 16:36

polkadot we've made the decision to start telling people as we know we are going to need support and understanding. Told husband's parents (will need their help with childcare for my son), and told work (we work in same place, so it was going to become very obvious and I wanted to forward the new head as to what she might expect from me over coming months). And if I spent many more days like today, with frequent long spells in the staff loos people will work it out!

8days well done on showering! I love the shall i/shallnt I on eating, I'm in the same position. I am really really hungry, but I've brought back pretty much everything I've tried today. Apart from cheap salted tortilla chips from Aldi. If I eat them sloooowly I'm managing to keep them down! Huzzah!

Have had to go straight up to two 4mg tabs of ondansetron 3 times a day to try and keep things in check. Interestingly, last time the 'best' part of the day was mornings. That seems to have swapped this time...

Gentle hugs to everyone

Mustang27 · 11/10/2018 20:44

Hello ladies I'm an old timer 3yr old and 9mth old both hg from 5weeks to 41 although most stop suffering around 20 so don't think that's how it looks for everyone. Incase Iv worried you all.

Congrats Foody what a beautiful baby enjoy your sick free days to come

Sasseh sounds pants I found neither did much alone but them both at the same time helped a little.

Haylzt28 I found the meds stopped working as well after a couple of weeks also but the stronger ones side effects were as crippling as the hg it is not great. Get back to gp of you have the strength see what they say. How far along are you?

8 showers were hard work get a stool it helps. I say always eat when and what you can it will likely make a reappearance but if it doesn't it's a bonus.

eallison88 mines was always worse at night but I'd call it all bloody day and night sickness. Hope you get the help you need with your wee one having others to care for just makes it that wee bit harder.

Hey Lucinda hope you and family are doing well.

LucindaE · 11/10/2018 20:56

Goodness, it's been busy! Three new sufferers!
Welcome to user polkadotpolarbear and Haylzt. Sorry you are all suffering. There's been great advice given already.
polkadotpolarbear I so agree with others, do ask for something other than Stemetil as there is a variety of meds and combinations. An anti acid like Omprazole or Ranitidine can really help.
user It might be worth phoning Pregnancy Sickness Support on 024 7638 2020. They will phone you back with good advice on obtaining effective meds. Also, as above, an anti acid is well worth a try.
Haylzt Unfortunately that does happen with some people. Have they tried Ondansetron yet? I think eallison has spoken of how the price of that has come down. Also, as above, an anti acid.
I would also recommend that anyone vomiting more than a couple of times a day needs to get kesotix to check for the early stages of dehydration, though I know ketones are questionable as a sign of dehydration, they do take them seriously in A and E as a sign.

Some liquids tlat have helped many; full sugar coke, ice lollies, ice cubes, the juice of tinned fruit, fizzy water, soda water, Dr Pepper, Lucoazade, Iron Bru, fizzy orange, lemonade, orange squash, orange juice (if not too acid), Robinson's fruit drinks and sips of chocolate milkshake(maybe soya). Foods of a sort include cuppa soup, Scotch pancakes, nibbles of chips and crisps, tinned fruit, slices of melon and mango, baked potatoes and cheap ice cream.
silversplodge How are things?
8DaysAWeek Congratulations on shower. Star
eallison Great advice. Are you a teacher, as you mention 'the head' or is that a head of department? I am glad you got sympathetic treatment and no doubt you have got the laxatives to hand!
Sasshemonsta Sorry about the awful nausea.
Waves to all.
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored.

Work in a school as support staff. I was lucky last time not to really get the constipation side effect, and I'm hoping that will be the same this time! All hubbys family know now and have all promised to.do what they can, so that is a weight lifted. Feel a little guilty not to have told My dad yet. He lives 200miles away and we're really hoping to wait til we've had 12 week scan and have told our son, so he can be the one to tell grandad. If I end up on hospital we'll tell him. But I so want to see his face when his grandson tells him!

Wishing a restful night to everyone

Foodylicious · 12/10/2018 06:18

Just popping on to say thank you to
LucindaE and everyone else on here for your support!

And that I have found nausea is all gone!
It was very odd realising at 10am on weds that I hadn't had anything to eat yet and wasn't feeling sick!
My appetite and interest in food has a bit if catching up to do still, but it's all good.

Currently having snuggles in bed with LO feeding and bigger one curled up watching the tablet.

Hang in there everyone x

Mustang27 · 12/10/2018 08:54

Aww Foody enjoy honestly I thought the first baby grew up quick second has been a blink enjoy the quiet moments they are few and far between especially once foody2 is on the move lol.

Hopefully eallison88 that you can keep the secret and enjoy the look on your dads face when your wee one tell him. I got a I'm going to be a big brother t shirt and my sil noticed before my mil and she was sitting there crying whilst her mum
was totally oblivious to all it took 5 mins and eventually my sil pointing through tears at my wee boys t shirt it was hilarious.

SeaEagleFeather · 12/10/2018 09:37

polkadot if you havent already been to the doc - ask if you can try cyclizine and ondansetron together. They seem to be a good combo. Mind you, different people respond to different medications, but cyclizine + ondansetron do work well for a lot of people.

tinyradish · 12/10/2018 10:27

I'm now taking both stemetil & cyclizine. Neither seem to do much on their own, especially the stemetil, but both together means I seem to be in a much better place now. Either that or it's coincidence & things would be better anyway!

I hope everyone else gets some relief very soon & so feel for those still suffering so badly.

Also, really enjoying minestrone cup a soups. Finding them absolutely flipping delicious with a bit of bread soaked in Grin. To anyone unable to eat much I'd highly recommend giving them a go.
