I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Thanks for the meds advice statistically and lucinda Unfortunately the metachlopromide failed drastically yesterday and today after not keeping anything down and not weeing since 5.30 this morning (!) I am now in the pregnancy assessment unit for 3 glorious bags of fluids and have been given iv ordanestron. Still rather ropey but so thankful for the fluids, I was despairing. Not sure if they will prescribe me meds to go home with or I may need to go back to GP tomorrow - they won't keep me in overnight. But the care has been great; the mw so lovely and the drs were too - I suspect they felt bad as it took a long time and a lot of poking needles into me to get a cannula into my dehydrated veins. I feel that being on my 3rd pregnancy I was actually taken seriously which was a pleasant surprise to previous experiences here.

Statistically sending you much love for tomorrow and your section, praying all goes smoothly. Don't let them rush you out if you're not ready, they can't make you so if you don't feel right then just tell them!

foody hang in there, you are so close and doing amazingly. Really wishing this baby comes soon for you, so frustrating with the tightenings going on too - baby is getting ready!

Waves hello to Kel and Eallison. Offering more hand holding to Kel - I think you are at a mentally challenging part of the pregnancy, you have done fab to get to 26 weeks already, you have got this, keep taking it one day. Easier said than done I know, I am so tempted to think "I'm only 8 weeks, I will never make it through" but one more day until the weekend is easier to handle.

And tiny I am beginning to salivate at the thought of potato with a bit of salt. Who needs gourmet food!

Flowers hotchoc you are one amazing mama.

Kel55 · 04/10/2018 19:23

Thanks for all your comments it really helps to have ppl to talk to that understand what I'm going through.
I completely agree that I need to start thinking day by day as I spend my days preying for 12 weeks to just go in a blink of an eye and it's obviously not going to happen. The more I think about how long I've got the more I start to feel down anxious and panicky. I just need to concentrate on getting through each day and stop thinking of due date.
I'm going to Drs tomorrow to try get ranitidine as Lucinda mentioned I think that could be part of the sickness being so bad still. Worth a try.
Baby was doing flips last night which was not helping with my sickness lol. I can cope with the kicks and enjoy feeling her move but the big rolls makes my tummy churn.

I hope everyone is doing ok and coping on this awful journey we are all on together.

Hotchoc congratulations to you. So lovely baby is here now. Are u still in hospital? I hope u feel better soon xx

LucindaE · 04/10/2018 21:06

Mamabear Sorry you have had to be admitted but I am so glad the fluids helped and you have Ondansetron. What do they say about constipation treatment and your concerns re: birth damage?
Kel55 It is very hard to get through, one day at a time is the only approah. Flips are not nice in such circumstances!
tinyradish I think the GP may be only letting you have small supplies because of the rare side effect that effects the mother - not the baby - a muscle twitchiness. Good luck wth doctor's appointment. There are
a variety of drugs to be tried.
Hotchocolate Sorry about bruising. You will get stronger by the day.
How is the food going down?
Foodylicious No wonder you are impatient.
Apologies to anyone rudly overlooked.

So I escaped home yesterday. Have to go back tomorrow to be reassessed. Think I need higher dose steroids as although I am drinking better im not tolerating any food and bowels not open for 6 days again. Also have nuchal scan tomorrow so anxious again.

tinyradish · 05/10/2018 08:15

Good luck with your scan beanhunter!

Mammabear I hope you do get to enjoy a potato soon...

Thanks lucinda. I think you're right about that - today I'm seeing a different Dr so we'll see what this one says.

Hope today is a better day for everyone.

silversplodge · 05/10/2018 08:49

I am living on jacket potatoes! To anyone who hasnt tried them yet, definitely the way forward!
Glad to hear you got home beanhunter

ohiwa · 05/10/2018 09:54

Hi, I just popped back on this thread and saw the discussion about the new drug that's been licensed in the UK. I think it's called Xonvea. It's a combo of doxylamine and B6. Just wanted to say that I had constant vomiting at 6 weeks, I couldn't keep anything down. I was prescribed doxylamine plus vitB6 (basically a DIY version of the drug that's been licensed) and it dramatically reduced my vomiting and eased the nausea as well. I had to stay on it for my whole pregnancy as each time I stopped taking it I'd start vomiting again. I did have to also take ondansetron in the first trimester but didn't have to take it regularly .
But I think taking the doxylamine early on stopped the HG from getting worse, I honestly don't know how I would have coped without it. I'd definitely recommend trying it especially if you can get it prescribed early on but I know it doesn't work for everyone. It's licensed in the US and Canada (under the name Diclegis/Diclectin) which I found quite reassuring in terms of safety and risk.
My baby is 7 weeks now and I am really enjoying eating everything! My sickness disappeared as soon as baby arrived although I did get a stomach bug 3 weeks after she arrived which was a grim reminder.
Best wishes to everyone, hang in there

applesin · 05/10/2018 11:59

Oh I wrote I big reply and it went poof...
I'm having my scan today, to rule out that I've just conceived late (possible as i have long cycles but not considered likely). My symptoms have been really up and down this week, which has been so confusing, and I've had thrush to boot! Got treatment for that, and just anxiously waiting til we have to go to the hospital for the scan. At least this time someone can look after our two year old.

beanhunter · 05/10/2018 16:24

Hello all. Back in hospital for more fluids. Had my scan and measuring exactly on dates at 12+2 so finally past the date of latest mc. Now to wait for results from screening bloods.

Foodylicious · 05/10/2018 16:35

Great news re the scan bean

Sorry you are back in for more fluids so soon though

Hopefully they will have a different/better discharge plan this time?

Foodylicious · 05/10/2018 16:36

Hope you doing ok apple

applesin · 05/10/2018 17:06

Really glad the scan went well bean.

Unfortunately my scan showed that there's been no growth, so officially a missed miscarriage at 11 weeks (measuring 6). Booked in for treatment on Friday, going for medical management.

Good luck to everyone. ThanksBrew

eallison88 · 05/10/2018 17:34

Oh applesin I'm so sorry.

Foodylicious · 05/10/2018 17:37

So sorry to hear this Apple x

Look after yourself

Mammabear13 · 05/10/2018 18:03

Thanks Lucinda They were quite dismissive with my concerns at the hospital (it's a different one to where I gave birth) So ladies hit me with your constipation management advice...what else are friends for! Do you have to get the suppositories from over the counter at boots?

Also I've been prescribed 4mg ondanestron to take 6 hourly which is different to what the hospital had said as the mw said I would take Cyclizine then ondanestron 4 hours later and so on. I was curious what others have had? & any advice on how to stagger 8 hourly Cyclizine with 6 hour Ondanestron to the best effect? (Struggling to get my head round it)

bean good news on the scan, hope fluids bring some relief and they get your steroid dosage sorted.

applesin Flowers so sorry lovely, they're aren't really words. I hope your symptoms do settle for you soon Flowers

applesin · 05/10/2018 18:10

Thanks everyone. Thankfully the ondansetron has controlled the symptoms really well, to the point that I'm now thinking that my nausea has probably been decreasing. I haven't dared to stop taking it though. Typically, my maternity exemption certificate arrived this morning. But at least I can get refunds on the prescriptions I've paid for so far.

tinyradish · 05/10/2018 18:21

So sorry applessin :( take good care of yourself.

eallison88 · 05/10/2018 18:34

mammabear The cyclizine/ondansetron spacing: my suggestion would be;
6am cyclizine.
8am ondansetron
12noon cyclizine
4pm ondansetron
6pm cyclizine
10pm ish cyclizine
10pm ish ondansetron (or later if you're still awake).
Only suggestion tho, I'm no medical professional!

8DaysAWeek · 05/10/2018 19:12

Hi everyone. Been following this thread for a few weeks now and thought I'd join the chat if that's ok.

I'm 10 weeks with DC2. Had bad morning sickness with DS but other than a few very bad days it was just vomiting every morning until 18 weeks, and nausea would generally disappear by early afternoon and I was still functional.

This time is much worse, vomiting on average ten times throughout the day and not able to keep liquids or solids down until the evening.

Yesterday the GP prescribed me cyclizine and gave me a 2 week sick note.

Today I've managed to eat a sandwich which is good.

I've not had a bowel movement in 9 days now. GP says it's most likely because I'm "dry" and didnt want to give me any kind of laxative in case it made me more dehydrated.

I think the evening snack is what's keeping me out of hospital, and I'm unlikely to have ketones in my body because of this but my fluid intake has really been shocking.

Anyway, hello!

8DaysAWeek · 05/10/2018 19:13

Also, I totally posted with multiple paragraphs and it's came out in one big text. Sorry!

Mammabear13 · 05/10/2018 19:19

Thanks Eallison only thing is my cylizine is 8 hourly so only 3 doses a day. I have been taking it at 5.30am, 1.30 and 9.30pm. Just can't figure out best way to get continual level of coverage using ondanestron too. Today I had some at 10.30 & 16.30 but that was because I had to get it from the chemist first. I might try 9.30, midday and 21.30 to give better cover overnight but might need it earlier in the morning than that. I guess trial and error!

LucindaE · 05/10/2018 20:03

8DaysAWeek Welcome. Sorry things are so bad. Has the doctor not put you on any meds? When you say ten vomits a day, do you mean ten separate episodes of several heaves? The reason I ask, if dr's often count heaves as 'vomits' and may be underestimating the sickness.
It is very annoying that medics rely on ketones to admit women with this, when as you say, they can be kept down by eating and you can be dehydrated. He obviously sees you are dehydrated. I think it might be worth phoning 024 7638 2020 Pregnancy Sickness Support, who will phone back with good advice about obtaining more effective meds. Meanwhile, some drinks and foods (of a sort) that might help.
teran, I wouldn't normally be quoting my list of drinks, etc, but you might find one to help. Some liquids tlat have helped many; full sugar coke, ice lollies, ice cubes, the juice of tinned fruit, fizzy water, soda water, Dr Pepper, Lucoazade, Iron Bru, fizzy orange, lemonade, orange squash, orange juice (if not too acid), Robinson's fruit drinks and sips of chocolate milkshake(maybe soya). Foods of a sort include cuppa soup, Scotch pancakes, nibbles of chips and crisps, tinned fruit, slices of melon and mango, baked potatoes and cheap ice cream.
Applesin I am sorry. An MMC is particularly upsetting because it is so long drawn out. For the moment, you will only want to mourn and get ready for the treatment, but when you want to try again, the chances are very much on your side that all will be well next time.
Mambabear They are usually reluctant to sell to pregnant women although they use them in hospital. Can anyone else buy them for you or can you go somewhere were you are unknown? Lactulose can be bought over the counter too.
Ohiwa Thank you for your lovely encouraging message. I am glad baby is thriving. Flowers Interesting that the new drug helped you a lot.
beanhunter I am so sorry you have had to go back in so quickly. Good about scan.
tinyradish What did the doctor say?
Silversplodge and others - I so agree about baked potatoes! I always put them on my list. Very healthy, too, unlike so many of the other bearable things.
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored.

I'm feeling annoyed with work. Current sick note finishes next Tuesday, I emailed a week ago to say I have a GP apt on Saturday (ie tomorrow) to discuss extension or possibly being signed fit for work but in a limited capacity, maybe remotely from home as I still can't be vertical for more than 15 mins at a time.
They've emailed round next week's rota and have me down as working the full day on Wednesday,,,,
How ridiculous. I've been off work 2 months now, did they really not think to check with me before booking in a full day of work? It means appointments will have been booked and have to be cancelled if I don't go in, which is a major headache.
I think they are making it clear they don't agree with my being off. To be fair I was off work for 3 months a year ago when my dad was dying and they were very supportive then, so I think they probably think I am now taking the p*ss .
I feel under pressure to go back now, but really when I can't even sit on the sofa watching tv, how on earth am I meant to work?

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/10/2018 20:29
