I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi foody the appointment went well thank you. I was given a blood sugar monitoring kit and some dietary advice. At the moment I am just waiting to see if the contractions develop into something or stop. They have been about 5 minutes apart since getting up this morning and more intense than through the night but no further developments at the moment. I am only 1-2cm dilated. I’m hopeful they either develop or stop pretty soon. How are you today?

Foodylicious · 24/09/2018 20:10

Not too bad. Walking very slow for school drop off and it's only 5 mins from car to school! Couldn't tell earlier for a bit (at school pick up) if my waters had gone or if my bladder was being spectacularly shit... was my bladder Grin Blush kind of really want baby out now. But my car is also leaking oil and I have it booked in for weds. It's such a strange this last little bit. Fx thing either settle down or ramp up for you pretty quick. It it next week you were booked in for?

Foodylicious · 24/09/2018 20:13

Are you able to relax with the lights down low? Try and get the oxytocin flowing? Hope you are not too uncomfortable/ in too much pain

LucindaE · 24/09/2018 21:32

Plasticgiraffe Welcome. Sorry you feel so bad. Many find Cyclizine makes them a lot less tired after a few days, but if it has been a few days, as others say, it might be worth asking for the meds you had last time. An anti acid can help a lot. I am glad the misery stopped for you at twenty weeks last time. As you are a veteran, you don't need my advice about 'have you got kesostix to check for the early stages of dehydration' and on flat full sugar, tinned fruit and ice lollies, and now IronBru must indeed go on the list, StatisticallyChallanged and others. I remember I could drink it often and should have remembered it. Hotchocolate I do hope that it turns into full labour for you. All luck if so. It is maddening when things delay. Good advice from others about turned down lights. Foodylicious That sounds awful about the bladder being such a pest. I do feel for you. This is a very untidy message, but the site won't let me do a carriage return. Foodylicious There does seem to be a hormonal aspect to Hyperemesis. Menstrual migraine is quite common with Hyperemesis sufferers, and as you say,not suiting the pill. Cystitis is another nasty thing many sufferers are prone to. chequeplease Well done on the tinned peaches. They have helped many. foreverblues I am so glad that you got the Ondansetron. Olivecake Iron bru is a good idea! Apologies to anyone rudely ignored, but my pc is being so odd I'd better post this before I lose it.

Ooh if only it had been your waters foody. That would have been some good progress. Everything seems to have stalled overnight here so I guess it will be back to the original plan of c section next Monday. Unless the doctors think otherwise. Hopefully I can at least go home today.

Foodylicious · 25/09/2018 07:50

Thanks for the update hotchoc! Hope you can go home today and get done rest x can believe the return button still isn't fixed on here!

SassehMonsta · 25/09/2018 10:11

Can currently stomach thin rich tea biscuits. How many is too many in a day? I'm hungry but the nausea keeps making me not want to eat.

Foodylicious · 25/09/2018 10:28

SassehMonsta there is no limit on food you can tolerate!!

I lived on bread related products for weeks 1st pg. Crumpets, muffins, scotch pancakes etc.

Baby will be fine. Just try and get a good multi vitamin/prenatal vitamin in there for you

Foodylicious · 25/09/2018 10:29

I also found if I had stuff by the bed and ate something before I even moved my head in the morning (Or middle of the night) it helped too.

Hotchocolate86 · 25/09/2018 11:33

sassehmonsta just eat whatever you can get down. I lived on mashed potato for the first few weeks sometimes with cheese in. It was the only thing that didn’t seem to make a reappearance.

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/09/2018 12:08

My first DD survived the first 4-5 months of pregnancy on nothing but curry super noodles, irn bru, and salt & vinegar crisps. She's fine!

SassehMonsta · 25/09/2018 14:48

Phew, thanks. Rich tea biscuits and the odd potato in egg-free mayonnaise.

LucindaE · 25/09/2018 20:24

Hotchocolate That's a disappointment.
Sasshemonsta I so agree with others; eat as many of those biscuits as you can stand!
Foodylicous Such a shame that it wasn't your waters.
Statisticallychallanged It's impressive the way the babies thrive!
I hope everyone is coping today.

How's everyone doing today?

beanhunter · 26/09/2018 16:12

Hi. I’m losing my mind. Have been suffering with hyperemesis but Less sick today. Supposedly 11 weeks post ivf. Last scan last weds was good but my mind us doing horrid things. Next is the big scan next Friday but last time I had a mmc in that scan after seeing a hb at 10/40. I’m so scared history is going to repeat itself. (Also had two early mc)

And really constipated again (10 days).

Foodylicious · 26/09/2018 16:28

Oh beanhunter it's so tough isn't it?!!

I had a mc before #1 (after 17 months ttc) then had a very early mc 1 year before this pg.

It colours everything and I had a few early reassurance scans this pg and with #1.

Hoping the next week goes quickly for you. Unless you think you want to fit in a private scan before then? It's so hard knowing what to do for the best

Olivecake · 26/09/2018 16:57

I totally understand you both beanhunter and foody - I also had a MC before this pregnancy and it’s just so hard to relax, I’ve been incredibly anxious the whole time that something has gone wrong. Even now at 23 weeks I still worry every day - having the extra MC anxiety on top of hyperemesis is so tough!

I’m doing ok sickness wise but have recently started a gradual return to work and today a distant colleague/acquaintance really made me feel so awkward and embarrassed by saying in a really bitchy way ‘I can’t believe you were off work so long just because of pregnancy sickness’ and rolled her eyes. It really hurts when people undermine the horror of HG and dismiss it as just a little bit of sickness Angry

silversplodge · 26/09/2018 17:11

Olivecake , I know what you mean about how people treat you for being off work. Although I'm no longer being sick now I'm on 3 different anti sickness meds, and managing to eat a bit, I still cannot get out of bed. If I sit upright for more than 10 mins I get so dizzy I have to lie down again. Been off work for 4 weeks now (1 was planned annual leave though rather than 'sick'), sick note runs out next week and I see no way I'm going to be up to going back, I wouldn't even survive the car journey in.
I feel massively guilty about it. Also meant to be going to a good friends wedding this weekend but again see no way that is going to happen. Makes me feel rubbish, and even though I know how rubbish I feel, I do wonder if others think I'm taking the mickey.
Did anyone else have lingering dizziness when sitting up even after they were less dehydrated?

Foodylicious · 26/09/2018 17:36

silversplodge I was not as bad as you, but the dizziness and generally feeling awful went along with the sickness/nausea when I was managing to eat a bit better.

If I 'just' felt or was being sick it would have been easier to cope with, but the dizziness was horrendous and I hated it.

How may weeks are you now?

Olivecake · 26/09/2018 18:17

silversplodge I suffered horribly with dizziness and had many episodes of fainting too - I always assumed it was a side effect of the dehydration and hunger, but even after I had fluids or could drink something, I still had a fair amount of dizziness - I think the HG just takes such a toll on our bodies that it takes some time to recover.

Don’t feel guilty about taking time off work, I was off for more than 3 months and I really physically couldn’t have made it in during that time - I was completely bed bound and in and out of hospital - not to mention fainting every time I got up!! With the exception of the rude lady today, everyone else from work has been quite understanding (at least to my face!)

LucindaE · 26/09/2018 19:07

beanhunter I do feel for you. Like Foodylicious and Olivecake I had an mc before and it ruins everything with the anxiety. Hugs. The chances are on your side.
Olivecake What a rude woman - if she makes such a remark again, do say that people don't have to go into hospital for fluids for ordinary pregnancy sickness nor be bedbound for weeks. It's like the differnce between a normal headache and a violent migraine. People can be so judgemental when they don't know all the facts.
silversplodge Don't feel guiilty. You wouldn't if you had another illness (hopefully). With any luck, things will improve a lot.

Thanks for the new list lucinda. I can’t believe I’m so close to the top now.
beanhunter good luck with next weeks scan. I had two miscarriages and they really take the shine off any future pregnancies.
silversplodge don’t worry about taking the time off work. You need to do whatever it takes to get through the sickness. I was off for 12 weeks, went back for about 6 and never managed a full shift. I was signed off again and then took early maternity. I did feel awful about it but everyone seems to have been understanding about it.

TwoDrifters · 27/09/2018 10:31

You can add me to the list, please, Lucinda I have a section booked for 28th November. Scarily soon! But then again, the sickness and nausea can’t end soon enough…

silversplodge · 27/09/2018 10:45

Foody I'm 13 weeks so I do have hope that things may settle down a bit in next few weeks, although talking to my Mum she was sick from day 1 to the day she gave birth. She wasn't allowed any meds though so hoping for better things.
Thanks to all for replies, I feel better knowing others have needed extended periods off sick too and I'm not just being pathetic.
