I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

RockinRobinn What a lovely baby Flowers Star Smile I am so glad you feel OK now, and thanks so much for your encouraging words for current sufferers. I am so glad this thread helped.
Raspberrypatch That is awful. Have they given you meds now? Great advice from others. It sounds as if it is so bad it might be worth asking about steroids if they think you are not suitable for Ondansetron. I do feel for you. This is probably the worst stage you're at. Do emphasize that you are getting desperate and have needed rehydrating twice in days.
Statisticallychallanged Sorry that you are one of the unlucky ones, with the nausea returning. I hope it doesn't get too bad.
Waves to everyone. I have to give the pc over to OH now. I hope everyone is coping. Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Oh hotchoc that's really pants Sad

I really can't recommend seeing a chiropractor enough.
I have gone from being barely able to put my right foot on the floor, to walking almost normally (Well, v carefully and with small steps) and even managed to do swimming lesson with 4yr old today, though dad got him ready etc so I just had him in the pool for half an hour.

Hope tomorrow is a better day x

Hotchocolate86 · 23/09/2018 07:56

Thanks foody I will a look and see if there is one in my local area and if they would be able to fit me in urgently. I’m so glad I don’t have too much longer to cope with it all. I’m glad it has helped you so much. Hopefully that continues to be the case.

chequeplease · 23/09/2018 07:56

Hi all, I've been reading this thread. There's so much helpful info, so thank you!
I'm currently 8 weeks and the nausea has been constant for the last 2 weeks but it and vomiting has really stepped up recently.

I'm going to the GP on Monday to ask for something, as I can't cope with work and looking after my 2 year old. I'm expecting to be started on Cyclizine or similar as a first attempt (from what I've read). Is there anything I should be considering asking during my appt? I'm so worried they won't give it to me.

SassehMonsta · 23/09/2018 08:14

@chequeplease Just make it clear that you need something to take home with you. I asked specifically for ketostix too (dip sticks for urine testing for ketones, indicator.of dehydration) as my Tesco pharmacy wouldn't sell them over the counter this week!! I was also prescribed liquid folic acid, which is a first, as I was throwing up my tablets as well as everything else last time.round.

Hotchocolate86 · 23/09/2018 08:37

If you can’t get ketostix from the doctors or pharmacy you can buy them from amazon. They weren’t too expensive when I bought mine.

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/09/2018 10:12

It's possibly been mentioned upthread but throwing up folic acid reminded me - there are some vitamin oral sprays available which are worth getting if you are anything like me who could not keep vitamins down at all. I have low vitamin D (detected pre pregnancy) and have a spray for that which definitely helps. I've also just been told I'm anaemic (4 weeks after they took the bloods, seems nobody could be arsed to phone me!) but my poor stomach can't handle taking iron tablets so I'm also using a spray for that. Dosage is lower, but absorption is better than from pills and it's better than nothing. There's also some decent multi vitamin ones.

Foodylicious · 23/09/2018 17:06

How you doing today hotchoc?
Is it tomorrow you have your appts?

LucindaE · 23/09/2018 17:17

chequeplease Welcome. Sorry you are suffering. I am glad the thread has helped so far. A lot of people find ten weeks is as bad as it gets, which at eight weeks is not encouraging, but a good idea to approach it with meds. You've had great advice so far. Do you have dark, scanty urine, dry mouth, inelastic skin or headache or blurry vision? They are all signs of dehydration. How much liquid are you able to drink? Dr's often count each heave as an individual vomit, so as people generally don't, there is often a breakdown in com munication, so recount individual heaves. It's worth asking for an anti acid as it can help so much. Some liquids tlat have helped many; full sugar coke, ice lollies, ice cubes, the juice of tinned fruit, fizzy water, soda water, Dr Pepper, Lucoazade, fizzy orange, lemonade, orange squash, orange juice (if not too acid), Robinson's fruit drinks and sips of chocolate milkshake(maybe soya). Foods of a sort include cuppa soup, Scotch pancakes, nibbles of chips and crisps, tinned fruit, slices of melon and mango, baked potatoes and cheap ice cream.

Do let us know how you get on.
Raspberrypatch How are things now? Have they discharged you yet?
Foreverblues How are things? Olivecake and everyone?
Hotcocolate and Foodylicious and Statisticallychallanged and Sashamonsta Very good advice. How are you all?

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/09/2018 17:31

I'm plodding along - literally plodding thanks to SPD! Woke up during the night needing the loo and subsequently keep going (7 fricking times so far) which is very odd compared to my usual pregnancy behaviour - especially given ondansetron usage! Really hoping it's not a sign of anything starting early. Stay put little one, your exit is booked!

I'd add Irn Bru to the drinks list. I think this baby might come out orange, it's about all I've been able to drink at various points.

Hotchocolate86 · 23/09/2018 18:13

Hi foody I am feeling a little better today thank you. I had some sleep which has helped lift my spirits a bit and can move a bit more freely. Yes I have my appointment with the diabetes team tomorrow morning where we will apparently go through diet and exercise. I have limited my sugar a fair bit this weekend and found a new squash I can tolerate. How are you?
statistically how long do you have left? It seems so many of us are unlucky enough to get spd as well as the hg.

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/09/2018 18:19

Not long now - ELCS booked for 5th October so I am counting the days down. They originally booked it for the 12th (which would have made me 40+1) which was enough to make me cry like a baby at the thought of an extra week as I'd always been told 39 weeks.

It does seem like SPD and hyperemesis go hand in hand for a lot of us. I do wonder if it's something to do with our bodies having stronger than usual reactions to hormonal changes; I can't take the mini pill as it gave me period lasting 6 weeks, combined pill kills my libido stone dead...it's like any hormonal side effect is cranked up. Same seems to happen in pregnancy for me

Foodylicious · 23/09/2018 19:16

Ooh, that's my Dud date StatisticallyChallengedWink

Bit fed up of being practically housebound hotchoc
Been just me and the 4yr old since 6.30 (though we both had a pretty rubbish night before then).
Both a little stir crazy .
I am sooo tired and sleepy the whole time.
Been getting some strong tightenings again today, but still constipated on and off and have IBS so it's pretty hard to tell what's what. That and huge pressure when baby moves and stretched in certain positions!.

So generally I flit from thinking " oooh, could this be the start.." to " ugh, I'm going to be pregnant forever!"

SassehMonsta · 23/09/2018 20:10

I'm managing OK with the nausea. It's a long way to go still before we can even happily announce it to friends and family - urgh. A few close friends of mine know, so I have someone to talk to and commisserate with. My wonderful friend B reminded me that I shouldn't miss doses of my meds despite the Dr telling me to use sparingly. I took her advice.

Before 11.30am is worse. I can't eat anything. Post 11.30 is better, I start to get hungry and by evening I can sometimes manage a meal. The nausea doesn't go, but it abates for a bit. I have yet to throw up dinner after eating, but at 4+3, there's a long time to go. I am trying to pack in healthy things while I can still eat, except all I want is carbs. Potatoes, pasta, pizza...!

chequeplease · 23/09/2018 21:47

Thank you so much- that list of food/drink is helpful LucindaE
I don't think I'm terribly dehydrated as I can sip water well enough during the day. It's just the constant nausea and food aversion I'm struggling with. I've had 1/2 tin of peaches today which has made a big difference and I managed to eat it without retching!

Foreverblues · 23/09/2018 23:19

Hi LucindaE, everyone hope you’re doing ok. I’m fayring better on the zofran. Managed to eat the last 2 days, but still nauseated all the time and just feel like it’s a struggle to rehydrate now (as tablets kick in I’m hoping I can drink something other than water) x

Olivecake · 24/09/2018 08:11

Oohh StatisticallyChallenged so funny you mention Irn Bru, I’ve been craving it for days! But unfortunately can’t find it in any shops here (I don’t live in the UK)

I’m doing ok thanks Lucinda, struggling with tiredness and a lot of nausea in the morning but thankfully eating and drinking is going much better and have not had any more projectile episodes in the last few days!

Hope you have a better day today hotchoc and everyone else struggling.

Plasticgiraffe · 24/09/2018 15:30

Hi I've been a lurker for a while but really need some advice please. Pregnant with second baby 7+4. Had HG with first pregnancy, prescribed promethazine and was gone by 20 weeks. This time I've been prescribed cyclizine but I'm struggling a lot more. I have no appetite at all and today I've eaten a rich tea biscuit and an ice pop. The tablets make me feel so unbearably tired and, while they take away most of the sickness and nausea, I feel like a zombie and can hardly eat. I managed to eat a few mouthfuls of lasagne last night but was still sick in the end when I brushed my teeth. Does anyone know if your body gets used to cyclizine as I still need to look after my little boy? Do you know if there are any other anti-sickness tablets which help with appetite and don't make you feel so tired? Thanks x

Foodylicious · 24/09/2018 15:49

Hi Plasticgiraffe congratulations! There are others on here that have trued quite a few different meds, but I am on Promethazine and was on it throughout last pregnancy. I have been fortunate o that I have only needed to take it once a day at night, so the sedation has not been a problem. How much were you on last time? Could you ask to try Promethazine again?

Foreverblues · 24/09/2018 16:12

So frustrated over this zofran thing. I’ve got 1 tablet left. the dr who was asking meds management if ok to do more, is off until Wednesday, and no update on my notes so she hadn’t had a reply. The partner gp said to wait for her to come back. But the receptionist is going to speak to ‘meds management’ and ring me back in the morning. But if they won’t let them prescribe it I’ve got to contact the antenatal unit at hospital to get them to prescribe it 😢

Foreverblues · 24/09/2018 16:28

Oh they’ve sorted it now to non dispersible ones, they’ll have them in stock for me at the chemist tomorrow. Phew x

beanhunter · 24/09/2018 16:29

I see I’m not the only one feeling broken today. I’m off the ondansetron again as constipation bad so back to being a cyclizine zombie who basically can’t tolerate anything. Please tell me it’ll get better soon (nearly 11 weeks and due back at work in 2 weeks).

Hotchocolate86 · 24/09/2018 17:24

Hi everyone. I’m glad to see people feeling a little better. plasticgiraffe I have found ondansetron to be the best drug for allowing me to eat. foody I get what you mean about going stir crazy not going anywhere. I have been just the same. statistically not long now. I have bad reactions to most contraceptives so maybe you are on to something with how our bodies react to hormones.

Hotchocolate86 · 24/09/2018 17:27

beanhunter there is every chance things will start to pick up soon for you but goodness it’s rubbish at your stage. Fingers crossed for some improvement soon. For for some reason I can’t seem to put any paragraphs in so apologies if my post is hard to follow. I am currently in the hospital after having contractions since 9.30 last night. We went in this morning but nothing seems to be changing now and I can’t go home because the contractions are still there and quite regular.

Foodylicious · 24/09/2018 19:26

Hotchoc I was goingvtp ask how your appt was, but I guess that's the least of your worries now. How you doing? (Also can't do paragraphs). You ok? Do you know what plans are next?
