I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hope everyone’s doing ok. So mum went to get my script and the pharmacy was closed for lunch 😢 it’s pouring down here so I’m still waiting on it. Spoke to the GP, he told me my urine sample from Monday had white cells in but no specific infection identified so they need another one ASAP. He said if I get worse or lips get dry I need to get to A&E for fluids. Really supportive. Anyway he’s signed me off for another week, but he said get onto the new tablets ASAP. I told him I’ve read some horror stories about it causing heart defects. He said there’s no evidence, and the risk to baby is worse if I get dehydrated. Feeling a bit apprehensive. I feel like I’ve got a lump in my throat so perhaps I do need an antacid but they haven’t offered me any x

Hotchocolate86 · 20/09/2018 16:10

foody baby is estimated to be about 7lb 9. I think that’s at due date. I haven’t had a GTT prior to this one but the hospital are saying my community mudwives should have done one as I’ve had sugar in my urine so many times. I have had a few strong practice contractions and each time I find myself thinking ooh maybe this is it. I’m glad your pain is more manageable. Not long now for either of us.
foreverblues you can buy ranitidine off the shelf at the supermarket. Lots of people on this thread have been/are taking it. Myself included.

beanhunter · 20/09/2018 16:14

So amazingly I haven’t vomited for 24 hrs. Clearly the fluids and in antisickness did some good. Still feel nausea and that’s increasing so sure the good feeling won’t last long but today is a better day.
Sorry to hear about the gestational diabetes x

Foodylicious · 20/09/2018 16:29

hotchoc that's an ok/average weight I think for about now?
So seems likely that the gd hasn't caused any issues so far, so it could be fairly mild?
and I guess hopefully won't on the next 1.5 weeks!

Yes. Not long now Shock

Sunandsea1 · 20/09/2018 16:38

Can I just ask what your weight is doing? I have lost a bit and I am now 15 weeks and am growing a tad concerned that this child is being deprived of essential nutrients. I am just unable to actually eat more than I force in me which is not much but better than it was some weeks ago...

LucindaE · 20/09/2018 18:37

Raspberrypatch I so agree with others, unfortunately you have to take that seriously and should have it checked asap. They are more concerned about that shade of blood being in vomit. Can you speak to the surgery or A and E about whether you should go in immediately?
Hotchocolate That is tiresome. Would diet coke be any good, or is it only the sugar that makes the non diet one bearable? As Foodylicious says, with no great problems so far and the baby not enormous, hopefully it is mild.
SunandSea It is amazing the way babies seem to flourish, despite the dismal diet, taking what they need (which is why you feel so bad). It is easy for me to say 'dont' worry' but the babies on here seem to thrive on a diet of such thing as coke and tinned peaches.
Foreeverblues I hope you get your meds soon and I am so glad that the doctor is supportive.
beanhunter and foodylicious I am so glad you are both a bit better today. Smile
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Hotchocolate86 · 20/09/2018 19:36

I think it’s an average weight. It seems about right for me as my other 2 were 8lb full term and just under 7lb 2 weeks early.
lucinda I have tried Coke Zero today and that seems to be going down ok so I’ll keep going with that. It’s one small swap at least.
I’m glad you are having a better day beanhunter
sunandsea baby will take what it needs from you. Hopefully as the weeks pass you will find you can eat a bit more and a bit better. You may find you regain the weight you have lost as you get further into the pregnancy. Are you managing to take a multivitamin?

Foreverblues · 21/09/2018 13:30

Feeling sorry for myself because there’s a supply issue with ondesentron (sorry can’t spell!) and I’ve got to get another prescription for dispersible ones to be able to get them!

LucindaE · 21/09/2018 17:06

Foreverblues Oh no. How long will that take? Can you get it today?

OP posts:
Foreverblues · 21/09/2018 17:57

LucindaE sorry no idea how to tag people properly. What a hoo ha I had. Had my booking in appointment, ketones 2+. Drs surgery rang me and said they can’t give me dispersible ones because they’re too expensive and they need authority from med plus or someone? Anyway I told them my ketones. Went off for blood tests, they rang me back and said they can give me 10 til they can speak to med plus on Monday. So I’ve got enough for the weekend. Got in from my appointments and vomited everywhere! Shouldn’t be so hard to access medicine in this country but they’ve sorted it for me I will be so so grateful if it works x

Foodylicious · 21/09/2018 18:01

Foreverblues fx it helps!!

tinyradish · 21/09/2018 18:12

Oh what a nightmare foreverblues! Hope it does the job for you!

So I've been given metoclopramide to try. Not heard of that one mentioned before so was a bit wary at first. Has anyone else taken this?? However I'll give it try & hope for the best.

RockinRobinn · 22/09/2018 01:25

Hello ladies,
I hope you're all finding the group useful even if it's just to check in and find your not alone most days. Hold in there as soon enough (even though it doesn't feel like it now!) you'll have your beautiful baby in your arms.
I'd like you all to meet baby Evelyn who arrived on 6th September at 8.42pm weighing 6lbs 7.5oz when I was 38+2. I was lucky to have a quick labour using gas and air in the last few hours and the birthing pool which was great! I was only in active labour (4cm dilated) from 6pm-8.42. I'm EBF and not having any nausea associated with that and it's amazing how nice it is to be able to eat so easily again (when a new born isn't crying for their food). I didn't realise how I was still experiencing the nausea, albeit a very low level as I stopped medication at 25 weeks, right up until the end of pregnancy.
We are both well apart from me having a few stitches and I'd say try to be as relaxed about the birth as you can. It was hard but no where near as hard as those early months with hyperemesis. You're all incredibly strong and doing amazingly so far.
I have attached couple of pictures from soon after she was born and the last one was earlier this week.
Thank you to everyone who helped support me up until about 24/25 weeks I don't think I could have done it without you. Especially @LucindaE for keeping this thread going some days I think it is the only thing that helped get me through a period in my life where I have never felt so ill and unlike myself.
Good luck ladies it will all be worth it xx

Foodylicious · 22/09/2018 02:10

RockinRobinn Aww, massive congratulations!Cake

Sounds like you are doing brilliantly. Well done you!
What a gorgeous baby you have created Star

SassehMonsta · 22/09/2018 04:30

Awwww Robin, how gorgeous! Thank you for reminding us there is light at the end of the tunnel

Hotchocolate86 · 22/09/2018 05:12

rockinrobinn what a gorgeous baby you have there. Congratulations. I’m so glad you are feeling better too.

Olivecake · 22/09/2018 08:18

RockinRobinn Congratulations!! She’s absolutely gorgeous and it’s so lovely to hear how well you’re both doing. Thanks for sharing this too, so great to be reminded that it will all be worth it!

tinyradish I tried metoclopromide and although it totally helped with my sickness (didn’t throw up the whole two days I took it, whereas I had been about 20 times a day before that!) I had to stop taking it as I had very severe muscle spasms and actually eventually dislocated my jaw from them! This is a very rare side effect though but I would just keep an eye in case you get twitches or start clenching your jaw as that’s how mine started. In terms of sickness though I have to say it was more effective for me than anything else I tried so hopefully it will be good for you - just keep an eye out and call the doctor if you feel any twitches!

Raspberrypatch · 22/09/2018 09:03

Hi I went to the hospital and they didn't seem too concerned about the brown flecks but found I was dehydrated and gave me fluids until my ketones went to 1. They gave me a new tablet that is like stemitil but melts under ur lip. Went home and tried it and didn't work and spent the next day vomiting unable to keep anything down. Went to the GP and he injected me with cyclizine but that didn't work either and I vomited twice more. So then I went to a and e where they gave me fluids and admitted me. Woke up on the ward this morning and the Dr has forgotten to prescribe me anything so lying her feeling sick not able to eat or drink still. This is turning into a nightmare Sad

mustang27 · 22/09/2018 09:06

@RockinRobinn Evelyn is absolutely beautiful and sounds like it was a great Labour although I do think hg makes you appreciate labour a bit more. Glad you are doing ok apart from stitches. Well done to you both and good luck with the ebf. Enjoy all the food Grin

mustang27 · 22/09/2018 09:13

Raspberry that sound horrific!! Do not let them fob you off anymore I know it's hard as you are sick and low on energy but ask out right for ondansetron! Are you in the uk? I had to or they would have let me go round in circles like my first pregnancy thinking there was no options for me.

There are other meds but it stopped me vomiting as much but did not help with the nausea. Tbf it made me so constipated I stopped it after a month or so but allowed me a teeny reprieve which neither stemitil nor cyclizine did.

Hugs it's shit how rough it is and nobody seems to understand unless they have suffered or their partners have. I was lucky as my gps wife was really poorly throughout both her pregnancies so once I found him in the practice I continued to see him throughout.

Raspberrypatch · 22/09/2018 09:50

Thanks Mustang yeah in the UK. They gave me ondansetron when I was discharged from hospital the first time but I ran out and the GP wouldn't prescribe it. It made me really constipated as well. They don't seem that keen to give it to me again atm

dellabrew · 22/09/2018 10:12

@RockinRobinn that was just the message I needed to see today thank you SO much for posting!!! She is such a gorgeous baby, so good to remember there is an end to all this, and a pretty cute one at that :)

Anyone else suffering from bad insomnia/headaches after going on tablets? Seems odd because they are meant to make you drowsy but it is the total opposite for me - although it stops me being physically sick so much which is great, this sleeplessness is also killing me :(

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/09/2018 10:24

Congrats RockinRobinn!

I've not been on here much recently; my hyperemesis finally pissed off around 20ish weejs when I was able to wean off ondansetron, but was replaced with crappy SPD instead. I'm now 37+2 (thank god!) and...the sickness is coming back. I've had to attack my emergency stash of ondansetron 4 or 5 times in the last week. I've had bad reflux and have been living on what is known in my house as a "gaviscon chaser" after most meals, but this is definitely proper sickness rather than anything like heartburn.

Thankfully baby girl is scheduled to make an appearance at 39+1 - it's no exaggeration to say I am counting down the days.

beanhunter · 22/09/2018 11:12

Congratulations rockinrobin. She’s beautiful.
@raspberrypatch I’m sorry you have had such a bad time. I also suffer massively with constipation on the ondansetron but it def helps more with sickness than cyclizine. Have you tried just telling them that’s what you want? I tried metoclopramide but really didn’t get on with it.
Afm after 2 decent days I’m suffering again today. However was nice to have two decent days of not being dehydrated. Had my booking appt yesterday with midwife who was supportive and also understanding of my anxiety with previous losses.

Hotchocolate86 · 22/09/2018 19:43

raspberrypatch how are you feeling now? Have you made any progress with getting some meds that work?
beanhunter I am glad you have had some good days. I hope tomorrow is better for you again.
I am feeling really low today. My nausea has been bad and I got up this morning in so much pain I could barely walk. It has eased off a little through the day but not much. I am really struggling to keep my spirits up. I may have spent too much money ordering myself some new clothes that I hope will fit after the birth.
