I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

beanhunter That is awful. I should think by tommorow they will unfortunately be 3+ and they should admit you. It is very arbitrary. Some hospitals admit at 2+.

beanhunter · 18/09/2018 19:02

I managed a few bites of toast so back to 1+. I don’t think I’ll get anywhere.

Foodylicious · 18/09/2018 21:23

hotchoc glad you have the all clear on preeclampsia, but sorry about the ggt tomorrow.

lucinda I have managed to get a chiro appt for tomorrow and am catastrophising a little less Blush

Not a chiro I have seen before, but she sounded good on the phone and mentioned before ME re being anxious about impact on active birth etc.
Sounded positive

Foodylicious · 18/09/2018 21:24

beanhunter hope you can get seen and get fluids soon Flowers

Hotchocolate86 · 19/09/2018 06:46

Thanks lucinda and foody. I’m hoping it all goes well.
I’m glad to hear you have a chiro appointment foody. I hope it’s helpful and that you feel a bit more positive about getting through the last few weeks.
beanhunter I really hope you manage to get some help today. I hate the way some hospitals don’t admit until you have 3+ ketones. It’s not right at all.

Sunandsea1 · 19/09/2018 10:12

Has anyone used Domperidone before? I have been changed from Cyclizine but have not really heard of Domperidone being an alternative?

Foodylicious · 19/09/2018 11:11

I don't think I've seen it much on here?
But it's on the list here on the sickness in pregnancy support page

beanhunter · 19/09/2018 11:24

Cried until they agreed to see me. Now having fluids.

Hotchocolate86 · 19/09/2018 12:49

I’m really glad you are having fluids beanhunter. I hope they make you feel much better.

Foreverblues · 19/09/2018 13:52

Thanks for your help Lucinda and hotchocolate. I spoke to GP receptionist today to say I was still suffering, she went off and spoke to a third GP who wants me to give another urine sample (I only gave one on Monday?) and has prescribed ondesantron. The receptionist was giving me the Spanish Inquisition ‘so you’re just nauseous? Are you actually being sick?’ I just said once a day even though it hasn’t been! So annoying! Spoke to breastfeeding network and she’s happy that drug is safe and will stop me getting dehydrated x

Foodylicious · 19/09/2018 15:17

Good news you are getting the treatments you need foreverblues & beanhunter

SassehMonsta · 19/09/2018 16:24

Been to drs this morning as nausea relentless. Threw up in toilets while waiting. Came out, with no fuss, Stemtil, liquid folic acid (0.8mls a day) and ketostix. Phew. Stemtil really helped me in the past and it's doing a good job today too.

I'm glad several of us are getting the medical interventions we need.

beanhunter · 19/09/2018 16:47

On 3rd bag of fluids and hoping for home soon. Also had my planned scan and bean is measuring 1 day ahead (has been consistently 1begind) so that’s good. Next major milestone is 12 week scan 2 weeks on Friday.

Olivecake · 19/09/2018 18:00

Sorry to hear so many of you are feeling so rotten but good news that everyone seems to be getting treatments.

Great news about your scan beanhunter

I’ve been doing so well but this morning had a huge projectile vomiting incident, all over the bathroom :( Hoping it was just a blip and not that it’s getting worse again.

Raspberrypatch · 19/09/2018 18:09

Hello I'm new here and looking for some advice!
I'm currently 11 weeks pregnant and was admitted to hospital with hyperemesis at 8 weeks. When I was discharged I was given a ondansetron prescription. I took them until they began to run out and asked my GP for more. They said they could only be prescribed by a hospital but gave my cyclizine to try. That didn't work at all and now I am trying stemitil. Seems to be working ok at the moment but this is the second day of being on it. What I am worried about is i am still really constipated from what I'm guessing was the ondansetron (sorry if tmi!). I've tried lactulose but the taste was vile. I had to resort to a suppository last week and I think I might have to use one again. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do u think my bowels will improve now I'm no longer on ondansetron? Thanks xxx

Foreverblues · 19/09/2018 20:37

Hi raspberrypatch. I’m not sure on the constipation thing but ondansetron is what I’ve just been put on and it was prescribed by the gp not the hospital. Apparently gp reluctant to prescribe because it’s expensive. Hope you’re ok x

LucindaE · 19/09/2018 21:46

Raspberrypatch Welcome. Sorry you are suffering. Lots of women on these threads have used suppositories and find them fine. Chemists won't sell them usually to pregnant woman, though they use them in hospitals. If you are so constipated some time after coming of Ondansetron, it may be that it's as well you are off it if you find that Stemitil is fairly effective. A good anti acid helps a lot of people. The constipation might be due to being dehydrated. Have you got scanty dark urine or a headache or blurry vision or dry or inelastic skin? Have you got kesostix to check for the early stages of dehydration, available from any chemists or online? Some women take Fybrogel, which is effective, but to be honest it is a bit sickening without Hyperemesis. Some fluids that might help: Flat full sugar coke, ice lollies, ice cubes, the juice of tinned fruit, fizzy water, soda water, Dr Pepper, Lucoazade, fizzy orange, lemonade, orange squash, orange juice (if not too acid), Robinson's fruit drinks and sips of chocolate milkshake(maybe soya). Foods of a sort include cuppa soup, Scotch pancakes, nibbles of chips and crisps, tinned fruit, slices of melon and mango, baked potatoes and cheap ice cream.
SeaandSand I have heard people say that Domperidone can be good but can incease acidity. Have you got an anti acid?
Foreverblues I am glad they gave you Ondansetorn. Watch out for constipation, as above. Often doctors count heaves as one vomit each, which is worth remembering, as often sufferers refer to separate episodes, which can consist of lots of heaving.
Olivecake Sorry about projectile vomit.
Foodlylicious How did the chiropractic appointment go?
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked. Have to hand over PC!

LucindaE it was good.
She us lovely and really seemed to know her stuff
I would be lying if I said sone of it wasn't painful, but mostly 'Good' pains iykwim.

Walking was no better immediately afterwards, but it's been a bit better this evening and I've managed to weight bear a little.
So fx I'm ok for school drop off etc tomorrow
Thankfully driving is fine, and I'll just park as close to the gates as I can.

Have another appt booked for Friday afternoon.

Think I'm going to restart Promethazine again tonight.
I forgot to take it three nights ago and didn't feel as bad as last time (a few weeks ago) but the waves of nausea have been getting stronger. Though if it was that alone I think I would be ok, it's the washed out, headachey, awfulness that comes along with it that I don't think I can put up with.
Have had a few spontaneous little voms and lots of wretching.
Not really helped by my current cough.

Oh well...I shouldn't grumble. I am aware of how lightly I have got off compared to many on here.
Thanks for asking Flowers

Raspberrypatch · 20/09/2018 06:37

Thank you Lucinda and foreverblues. I think I probably am a bit dehydrated which isn't helping. Stemitil was working ok until last night when I couldn't keep down the tablet Sad. I then vomited numerous times and by the end the sick had bits of brown in it. When I googled this it said it could be blood?! Do you think I should go to the hospital? Or is this normal? I've managed to swallow a tablet just now so not being sick at the moment. Thank you

Foodylicious · 20/09/2018 07:53

Raspberrypatch ugh that sounds horrid.
Brown flecks or 'coffee grounds' type vomit is often a sign of blood.

I think going to hospital is definitely the right call. Hopefully it's 'just' from irritation of being sick so frequently and violently, but it's something they take pretty seriously and would want to see you.
It may be that they give you something like omeprazole to protect the stomach.

If you were not pregnant, suffering from hg and now 'better' it would probably be a visit to GP for a once off small brown vomit, but with everything else and the likely dehydration you will probably be best going to a & e, but you could try your GP first if you wanted to.
Early morning shouldn't be too busy either.

Hotchocolate86 · 20/09/2018 12:40

The hospital have phoned and it looks like I do have gestational diabetes so I have an appointment on Monday with the diabetes team at the hospital. I’m a little nervous.

Foodylicious · 20/09/2018 13:10

hotchoc oh No, what a bugger!
Sure I would feel the same.

Hopefully it will be an appt to discuss your diet and what to monitor yourself for after the birth too?

I think it's fairly common for the GD to resolve after birth?

Hotchocolate86 · 20/09/2018 15:22

Yeah the lady on the phone said not to worry too much as they’d go through diet and exercise at the appointment on Monday. But to be honest I am very concerned. The only things I’ve been able to drink are a particular flavour of high juice and the odd glass of coke and my diet basically consists of lots of carbs and not much veg. It’s way too much sugar but it’s what I can face and what is staying down. Also I can hardly walk most days due to the spd let alone exercise. I tried to get some advice off the community midwives to tide me over until Monday but they were disinterested. I’m very glad I don’t have long left. How is your pain now foody? Are you still feeling better after seeing the chiro?

Hotchocolate86 · 20/09/2018 15:46

raspberrypatch have you been checked out for the brown flecks in your vomit?

Foodylicious · 20/09/2018 15:57

hotchoc it's been so much better today, but still painful at times.
Thought I had some pretty strong practice contractions earlier whilst walking back from school, but they stopped as soon as I got in the car.

Did you have a gtt earlier in the pregnancy or has baby been measuring particularly big?
