I'm 10-11DPO and just had BFP on a digital. I know it's incredibly early but looking at a due date March 3rd 2019!

This is my first so I have when things happen really, but at the booking in appointment with the midwife, will some sort of scan happen then? I just find it weird that nothing will happen until 12 weeks otherwise!

myotherbagisgucci · 10/07/2018 10:11

Hi @JessicaFaithH

On your initial midwife appointment (usually around 8 weeks) they'll ring and book your 12 week scan. Unfortunately nothing much happens before then unless you decide to have an early private scan.

ladycarlotta · 10/07/2018 10:12

@JessicaFaithH no, the booking in is just getting info on you - mine wants a urine sample, they might take blood, and talk about your family history and where you want to give birth etc. They'll book your 12-week scan then, but you won't get an earlier scan unless you go private or are referred for one. You might get referred if your pregnancy is risky for whatever reason, if you're undergoing fertility treatment, have a history of miscarriage or if you have been bleeding. But you will probably need to talk to GP about that, as midwife isn't your point of contact til you book in.

JessicaFaithH · 10/07/2018 10:15

@myotherbagisgucci it baffles me that in theory - no medical professional actually confirms that you're pregnant until 3 months in. I mean, it's unlikely you could get that many false positives on home tests, but it's still mind blowing!

I want to tell my mum and DP's mum sooner rather than later, mainly because we're currently living at my mums whilst our house is being renovated but it puts me off doing that if nothings confirmed for so long in case there are any issues

myotherbagisgucci · 10/07/2018 10:18

@JessicaFaithH I think it's because pregnancy tests are so accurate these days that you no longer need the doctor to confirm it.

I couldn't hold the news in and told my mum the day I found out.. lol!

ladycarlotta · 10/07/2018 10:21

I think it's reasonable for them not to want to see much of you in early pregnancy. First trimester there's rarely much they can do to help a pregnancy stick or not, and unless you're particularly sick or uncomfortable you can get on with it by yourself. I've had GPs confirm my pregnancy very early in the past - it's not like they won't do it, it's just not a priority. There's certainly nothing to stop you from paying for an earlier scan if you're keen to tell people.

ladycarlotta · 10/07/2018 10:23

(and we have told DP's parents, despite only having HPTs to go on. I figured if it didn't work out, they'd still want to know about it.)

Hi gang 👋🏻

CONGRATULATIONS!! To all new comers with their BFP's 🙌🏻🎉👏🏻🤰🏻

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, been a busy weekend... hope everyone is ok and managing in this heat!!? 😓🤦🏻‍♀️😂 (I'm sure we will all be moaning when it's raining again) ☔️

@mostimproved Thank you for the information regarding my UTI question. Will keep that in mind for the future, it seems to have calmed down now which is one less thing 😂👏🏻

@JessicaFaithH, I'm in the same boat as you... baby number 1! Haven't a clue what I'm doing or how things work 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

After scouting the internet I reaslised I needed to be on a higher dose of Folic acid due to my BMI being over 30! So when I called the doctors to see what the next step was she booked me in for an appointment with the GP... saw him yesterday and he gave me 5mg folic acid and I also brought so 'pregnecare Vitamins'... Then self referred online with the midwife who will apparently contact me in a couple of weeks! So now it's just a waiting game.... 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Saw your messages about twins... God my partner would love that and I'm sure I would if given the amazing opportunity... but bloody hell that would be hard! Would love to be able to breastfeed, but could you imagine having one on each 😂👏🏻

@LolaCola13 Sending lots of love your way, keeping all fingers and toes crossed for your sticky bean 😘🤞🏻

Love reading all of your messages ladies, like a few have said it makes everything easier and is great to be able to talk about everything when you can't to others so early on.... 😘🎉🙌🏻❤️

Hi everyone!!!

So I had my first scan yesterday and we seem a beautiful healthy heartbeat Smile i am measuring at 6 weeks +2.... Which means at the moment I am actually due on my birthday haha! So one scan cleared and I'm so relieved! just need to pass my 9/12 week scan and pray no anencephaly or any neural tube defects are seen! And get my ass into the safe zone! Best feeling seeing that little heartbeat flicker xx

ladycarlotta · 10/07/2018 11:11

so pleased for you, @kirstblxo! Crossing my fingers all remains well.

I'm going for a scan on Friday when I'll be 6+6. I can't express what a relief it will be to (hopefully) see a heartbeat.

kirstblxo · 10/07/2018 11:19

@ladycarlotta good luck for Friday Grin

Danielle48 · 10/07/2018 12:58

I'm supposed to be 5 weeks today but when I took my clear blue test it says 2-3 weeks not 3 plus. Anyone else had this & should I be concerned?

Buttons2 · 10/07/2018 13:03

Feeling really excited but nervous. Due 8th march, experienced miscarriage in march of this year and cp in may so currently a mix of emotions really hoping for a successful one and can't wait for the first scan

Baby160P · 10/07/2018 14:52

@Danielle48 I was told
You and 2 weeks to the clear blue test as the doctors go from the first day of your last period but the clear blue from ovulating possibly? So that should be right

Danielle48 · 10/07/2018 17:03

@Baby160P thankyou. I have had a google and that seems to be the case. I swear these digital tests cause me so much stress lol

Danielle48 · 10/07/2018 17:05

@Buttons2 sorry for your loss. I'm in exactly the same boat it's so hard to get excited isn't it. Will be lovely to go to the scan and find out if all is well. Fingers crossed everyone's in here is a sticky one

frankiefumbles · 10/07/2018 18:52

@Danielle48 if you scroll down there is lots of the clear blue issue. I haven't got past a 2-3 weeks on the test and it's notoriously unreliable. Looking at test strips and the line darkness is also unreliable.

From what I can tell the only legit way to reassure yourself is to get yourself in to have a blood test to check your hcg is doubling. As tough as it sounds, if you haven't had heavy bleeding and cramping then you are still pregnant and your little poppyseed is bedding itself in!

I also think it's worth noting you don't HAVE to have an early scan. It looks like a lot of people here are having them but it's generally because those people have had a scare or a precious miscarriage and they are just seeking reassurance.

Mumtobe34 · 10/07/2018 21:00

Hi ladies,

It is hard to keep up with all these messages 🙈

Sorry to hear that some of you have had bad experiences in the past or are going through a rough time at the moment. Hopefully everything will turn out for the best.

Congratulations to those of you in getting your BFP!!

About having twins, it doesn't run in our families. I love the idea of having twins, not sure how we would manage tho lol

I have got a question, I'm curious about how many of you plan to follow your pregnancy through both NHS and private care? I'm not sure what to do, I read many people go private to get the Harmony test done. What's your view on this?

frankiefumbles · 10/07/2018 23:09

I'm going to the Nuffield for my first scan which is more expensive than having a midwife but I want the expertise of the consultant and ultimately as much info as possible about being active during pregnancy. That's a bit beyond standard midwife info. I'll update you guys on whether that's a waste of time or not! Mainly doing this because mum suggested it was wise(!!)

I'm certainly having an NIPT because I have a 50+ partner so we fall in a marginally higher risk category (sperm degenerates but because I'm fairly fertile we might get a fetus that's at higher risk of disability...and I get that this is very personal but we have a line where we wouldn't want to bring a little one in to the world if it couldn't be independent after we kick the bucket).

This will all run alongside the standard NHS stuff. The private scans I'm having as a little treat to ease my nerves.

You're unlikely to be able to give birth in a private hospital because of the liability they would have if they damage the baby during the birth...sky high insurance premiums for them so it's very unusual. My OH is a non-NHS surgeon so I guess we are slightly biased towards using private healthcare as and when we think it fits.

Everyone is different though :)

HidCat · 11/07/2018 06:32

@frankiefumbles sounds very sensible - do you find it more worrisome having a partner in medicine as he knows more about what could potentially go wrong?

LuckyKitty13 · 11/07/2018 07:11

We've decided to have private Harmony/Serenity test at 10 weeks, plus we have an independent midwife on board as well. We will have routine scans on NHS alongside.
I wanted continuity of care, and an experienced birth advocate/option for homebirth.

PurpleFlower1983 · 11/07/2018 07:18

Is anyone else worried their symptoms are going? I’m still feeling sick/boobs are tender/bloating/increased appetite but I’m worried they’re in my head and something is wrong. I was looking at my boobs and thinking they looked smaller than last week and worry every time I go to the loo in case of blood! This is such a bizarre time!!

frankiefumbles · 11/07/2018 08:26

@HidCat no - haha I see your point though. By the time they get to be a consultant they know an inanely small part of medicine. He did babies for a short time as part of his training but you wouldn't know it at all. It's far worse having an enquiring mind yourself because I've googled the hell out of everything. My background is in research so I also read the journal publications.

What is a bit challenging is that I would like to try co sleeping and he thinks that's totally dangerous. I also don't agree with babies having so many vaccinations (I'm not an anti vaxxer but I'd like the vaccinations to be spread out more so they don't overload an immature immune system). He of course feels he can veto me on these things because he's the Dr but actually I'm more well read than him!!! ;) I think that's why I want to see a specialist consultant rather than a midwife because I can then throw back a different view on the same topic and he will take it more seriously from another consultant.

Baby160P · 11/07/2018 08:32

@PurpleFlower1983 I had the same at the beginning of the week and made a post on it. Some say the placenta is growing meaning it takes some of the strain.
I however feel more sick than I have the last 7 weeks today! 🤢

HidCat · 11/07/2018 08:36

@PurpleFlower1983 my symptoms have eased a lot now but I feel like I'm getting wider. I haven't gained any weight but my bra band is tighter and my trousers are tighter in the hips. This happened in my MC pg too but on my first not until much later. I've been lucky to have minimal symptoms on all my pregnancies so I know that it's nothing to be alarmed by, although having symptoms is reassuring.
