Morning all

@cryptonaut first night with my v pillow and I noticed less pain when I woke up. Think it will take a few nights to find the best position but so far so good.

@GinGeum welcome we are a friendly supportive bunch.

cryptonaut · 31/07/2018 13:16

Had my 16 week appointment today :) got to listen to the heartbeat, it was quite easy to find on me. Felt amazing! I asked about weight and midwife told me that not putting any on is fine, she'd only be concerned if I'd lost loads of weight or put loads on. We talked about general well being and she answered any questions I had. Checked blood test results, blood pressure and urine.

GinGeum · 31/07/2018 13:51

I’ve just got back from mine too crypt! I finally plucked up the courage to request a home birth (I was expecting resistance, not sure why!) and she was very excited about that!

Buttercup53 · 31/07/2018 14:27

@cryptonaut thanks so much for updating about the weight issue, that’s a real comfort to know. I’ll try to stop worrying about it now!

Rabbit15 · 31/07/2018 21:01

@jennac is this your first baby? I recall for my first I didn't feel movement until close to 20 weeks which I read was quite normal so I wouldn't worry about it! This is my second and I felt a bit of movement one day last week (15 weeks).

GinGeum · 31/07/2018 21:17

What does feeling movement actually feel like? Is it obvious it’s that and not just wind?! Grin

purplesmiler · 01/08/2018 07:45

Had some stretching this morning that felt like cramps read it's normal at this stage. Have noticed my belly seems to have popped out a little more.

sexnotgender · 01/08/2018 08:09

To me the initial movements feel like someone tickling you from the inside. I've got lots of wind and it's definitely not that!
I felt a little something last week (14 weeks) but nothing since.

sexnotgender · 01/08/2018 08:10

I've also had a fair amount of crampy type stretching going on purplesmiler

GinGeum · 01/08/2018 10:42

I think I’ve just felt it move! I’ve just had my new hoover arrive so I think they are as excited as I am about it Grin I see what you mean about tickling, it’s almost like there’s a little butterfly fluttering around in there.

Thamantha · 01/08/2018 12:27

Had my 16 week appointment today, but i am only 14 +4. Dates were changed at scan, and i did not realise i should change the midwife appointment. She tried to listen to the heartbeat but could not find it. I'm heading back in a few weeks so we can try again. Bless, i think she was more worried for me than i was. Pretty sure the wee one is still too small to find it's heartbeat easily.

cherishlia · 01/08/2018 14:03

Hi! Mind if I join you all? I have my 16 week appointment tomorrow, I'll be 15 weeks exactly (due 24th January). Like a few of you, I've also had a quite a lot of on off and sometimes constant crampy type stretching, such an uncomfortable feeling! Hoping that my midwife will try to find the heartbeat as that'd be very exciting considering I haven't seen the baby since 11+5 at 12 week scan. Are any of you planning on going for an early gender scan? I'm considering it but still a little unsure. Smile

FuckMyUterus · 01/08/2018 14:07

Been evacuated from work ladies, big fire/propane explosion at the factory next door. Gotta go get checked out at hospital for smoke inhalation :(

sexnotgender · 01/08/2018 14:15

Oh that’s scary fuckmyuterus hope everyone is ok?
You really do need to change your username!

RiskIt4Biscuit · 01/08/2018 14:33

FuckMyUterus, I hope you (and everyone) are okay!

I'm 17 weeks today, and have just come home from my 16 week appointment. My DH was with me - and I actually think he quite enjoys coming with me to the appointments.
We listened to the heartbeat (and other sounds were explained as well), and blood tests were taken.
I finally got my notes sorted - at the booking appointment, they were out of them.

I was told to feel for movements - which is quite exciting. I haven't felt anything yet, but I do fall asleep the moment I sit/lie still for more than a few minutes and it is still quite early.

Next appointment is end August for the 20-week scan, and I'm really looking forward to it.

I've been looking at prams and car seats, and I am so confused. I think I've settled on a pram (my mum helped me when I visited my parents in Denmark last week), but the car seat stuff is just a mess in my head. Do I need the Isofix base or not, which car seat is the best one to get, and are those with the lie flat option safe enough when used in that position? I had no idea it was going to be so difficult buying stuff like this!

FuckMyUterus · 01/08/2018 14:48

I know, I'll change it when I'm home!
Unfortunately not, as I left for hospital they were pulling body bags out and half the building was still ablaze.

Merrz · 01/08/2018 15:09

Holy crap FuckMyUterus that's awful.
RiskIt4Biscuit I've been looking on-line at prams/car seats, my head is totally fried with them all! and the car seats without handles??

purplesmiler · 01/08/2018 15:41

@FuckMyUterus hope you are ok what an awful thing to happen.

I would like an isofix base for the car as its so much easier when using the car seat I have seen with my friends. I keep looking in the charity shops though as they do get them in.

GinGeum · 01/08/2018 17:10

Oh god Uterus that sounds absolutely terrible. I hope you’re okay.

Isofix car seat bases are soooo much easier (ex nanny here) although they are pricey. You will soon get into a rhythm of doing the seat belt over the seat if you can’t afford Isofix. I am going to try and get away with not getting a pushchair until baby is 6 months+ I think - we are rural and have crazy dogs, so a sling will be easier I think.

DH hasn’t been to any appointments with me yet and I only realised yesterday that it’s recorded in my notes that I attend alone. What’s the reason for them recording that?

jadem1990 · 01/08/2018 17:34

Hi guys! Sounds like an awful day for u uterus!

I had my 16 week appt this week and everything came back normal although she didnt check for a heartbeat.

I am a little worried as I have hardly no bump and I'm 16 + 1 today. It's my first and I am petite so I assumed it would be bigger by now. My only reassurance is that I am a frequent gym goer and I do work my stomach muscles quite a lot so maybe baby is taking a bit longer to pop out? The midwife said it could just happen overnight and all of a sudden boom there is a baby. I have attached a photo of my little lump. To me there is defo a change as usually my stomach is completely flat.

@jadem1990 there was a new girl at my prenatal exercise class yesterday, she said she's 18 weeks and doesn't have a bump yet. She was also quite petite. Everyone's different.

Oh no @FuckMyUterus :( I hope you are ok.

FuckMyUterus · 01/08/2018 19:48

All okay here, back from hospital, been on oxygen til my sats returned to normal, they were 72% when I got there this afternoon! Off to bed as I'm absolutely shattered, but thanks for the well wishes :)

RiskIt4Biscuit · 01/08/2018 20:27

jadem1990, I don't really have a bump yet either, and I am 17 weeks. I'm short, but a bit overweight - I do however have a pretty decent core.
The midwife did not seem concerned, and she was able to pick up heartbeat and kicking during the appointment today with the doppler.

Regarding Isofix; my understanding is that all new cars (from 2014 and more recent) have Isofix, so that should mean (unless I've misunderstood) that I can use any Isofix car seat in a new car (which I have).
However, I can't really get my head around the Isofix base - is that necessary, or is it just making life easier with regards to moving the seat in and out of the car, as well as the initial installation?

GinGeum · 01/08/2018 21:19

For the newborn car seats, you need a base. For older child car seats, they have two ‘arms’ that come out at the back of the seat and clip into the isofix clips on the car. As far as I know, there aren’t newborn seats with arms (maybe because they’re rear facing) so you need the base.

purplestrawberry2 · 01/08/2018 22:16

I had 16 week scan today (get them every 2 weeks for twins) and sonographer wasnt very nice! She was really abrupt and kept saying things like "i will avoid doing your scans in future" without any hint of humour. The babies were making it difficult to see them but she was pressing so hard with the probe it hurt quite a bit - I have bruises! Eventually she got another sonographer in who didnt press firmly and got the measurements. Babies are ok thankfully.
Hope everyone else is doing ok! Especially Uterus after today!
