Wrong Due date?

I have a question about my due date, I and my partner think it's wrong going on what we know about ovulation.

Period on the 30th Sept 17- 3rd Oct 17

Sex on the 6 oct 17

Sex on the 20th oct 17

Period on the 21st oct 17- 23rd Oct 17

This makes conception after the 20th impossible so how is my due date the 6th sug 18.

Ive not had sex at all since the 20th of October so I know I can't have gotten pregnant after that.

Wrong Due date?

You seem like you are tracking everything and very sure of your dates and how long your cycles are..... yet you somehow made a mistake and took a pregnancy test a week earlier than you thought - you say on the 10th of November. But if you did, in fact, take it when you thought you did (a week after your period was due) on the 17th November then everything all falls into place with your dates (perhaps a slight discrepancy due to your shorter cycles).

That would then fit with the scan dates and results (especially the very early scan which would be the most accurate, at 5 weeks (so 3 weeks after conception) fits perfectly, what you told the midwife at booking and your calculated dates - actually it sounds like your midwife didn't necessarily calculate the dates in the usual way since you had already had two scans at that point so the dating had been done (which would have been helpful to know in your OP since it explains why you were given the due date you were!)

The reason you said you were sure that you didn't have sex after 20th October is that you said your partner didn't want to while you were pregnant, but you didn't know you were pregnant until at least the 10th (probably the 17th November) so maybe you just did and forgot?! It's a fair few months ago. Occams Razor- the simplest explanation is the easiest, you had sex and forgot to write it down in your calendar.

Also you're wrong about the dating scan, it does still include the extra two weeks, that just how they date babies, for whatever reason they count the time that they developed before fertilisation too. So if they look at it and say that's 5 weeks then it has been developing as a fertilised egg for 3 weeks. Its very unlikely that they would have got the dating wrong at this scan as it's not a case of measurement it's physical development signs (heart beating but some organs not formed). That's why it's important to have the dating scan before 13 weeks. The dating scan should usually only be a minor adjustment to what the midwife calculated due to differences in peoples cycles/when conception happened. Occasionally there maybe something like a breakthrough bleed being mistaken for a period (adding a month), or a missed chemical pregnancy (loosing a month) or sometimes people just get there dates mixed up or don't remember. The later scans are less accurate as then everything is formed and it's more based off of measurements which can be more varied between different babies.

This site might help you line up your dates.

@LisaSimpsonsbff

I wonder if, as long as it didn't affect their care, if the patient was insistent and especially if a partner was present or in the picture as a safeguarding issue then they might agree to a 'possible' alternative conception date.

In two of my pregnancies i had a positive pregnancy test saying 1-2 weeks but then had an implantation bleed (followed by early scan) where nothing was visible to which they explained i had started producing the hcg hormone at fertilisation but had implanted later than normal.. i went on to have two normal healthy pregnancies. Sperm can live for 7 days inside so you could of become pregnant with day 7 sperm and then just implanted late. If for any reason you are way ahead than scans have dated you then they will notice problems at your last growth scan with the placenta. Just trust your body even if your overdue your body wont usually go past 42 weeks not impossible but most people go into labour by then. They changed my due date by 8 days with my first and i then went 6 days over the new date and my placenta was older looking but still providing for my 8lb 8oz boy so try not to panic. I highly doubt they will change your dates now as all babies start to grow at different rates. X
