Here's my 23 week bump... it's been a strange week...

I've been back at work following my mum dying and it's just exhausted me...

No one knew I was expecting before I went on leave and so now I've been watching people quick glances at my tummy, wondering whether I'm pregnant or have done too much emotional eating...

I've made a point of telling a few people I am expecting in the hope the news spreads...

In lots of outfits I don't think my bump is overly obvious and other times I feel like I've got a beach ball up my top...

This is a swimming costume that arrives today as my normal one didn't fit properly anymore and wasn't feeling very supportive...

How's everyone else today? 💕

orangejuicer · 02/08/2018 17:58

Hi EL333 I'm sorry to hear about your mum Flowers. I lost my beloved mum last year. I went to see Mamma Mia today which was a bit of a mistake ha Smile.

Also had a bit of an emotional over reaction last night. Baba wasn't moving as much as he normally does in the evening so I got myself into a state. Ice cream did the trick, though I'm not sure I can cope with this for the next how ever many days/weeks Smile

Emma198 · 02/08/2018 17:58

Must have been hard for you to go back @EL332. Hopefully it will get easier as you get back in to it. The news will surely spread quickly. I've also got a new maternity swimming costume Grin here's mine with my 23 week bump too. Viability is 24 weeks isn't it 💕💕 it's nice to get to a stage where they could be born and be OK.

@orangejuicer all of my maternity bits say not to worry about movement until they start to establish a pattern at 24 weeks.

I was looking at this yesterday www.kickscount.org.uk Tempted to get a band as I'm so busy I generally don't register things. It's been lovely feeling it more over the last couple of days off work

shallen · 02/08/2018 23:22

Ok so random one, but I'm worrying now!

Getting into bed and DH noticed dark bruise like marks almost symmetrical on both bum cheeks! I haven't hurt myself (I'd know about it for bruises so dark) and they don't hurt.

Been doing a bit of dr google research and other people have said they have had it from sitting on hard surfaces. I did sit out on a hard plastic chair with holes in for 10 mins at lunchtime, the holes could be about the size of the bruises.
But surely that's not normal for my cheeks to bruise just from sitting down?!! Worried it means I'm deficient in something? Also had a slightly elevated protein in wee result with MW yesterday, she wasn't worried as everything else was ok, but now I'm starting to wonder.....
I'll call MW tomorrow and see if she knows anything.
I'm 21 weeks.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?
Thanks
Sharron.

I would imagine you bruise easier in pregnancy - you generally have extra anti clotting factors going around, more so if you're on aspirin too. Time for a cushion at work?

EL332 · 03/08/2018 18:43

Today I've signed up for antenatal and aqua natal classes through my local children's centre 👍🏼🙂

I know other people have mentioned NCT classes on here too, how did people decide which classes to do?

shallen · 03/08/2018 18:57

@Another I ended up speaking to MW and going to GP, now have to go for blood test on Monday to check if I have low blood platelets. Hopefully it's not the case and it as you say and just a result of more blood, weird chair and hot day, but better to get it checked.

shallen · 03/08/2018 19:04

@EL332 I went for nct, it's not cheap but had glowing recommendations from a couple of my local friends.
I'm also investigating hypnobirthing as I'm feeling a bit nervous about the whole thing and think that might help.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 03/08/2018 19:51

I've gone NCT as that's all that is available in my area besides hypnobirthing classes and that would be pointless with my birth plan.

@shallen I have a friend who did hypnobirthing twice. The second was delivered at home by her husband 5 minutes before the midwife got there so it must do something!

shallen · 03/08/2018 21:23

@AnotherOriginalUsername i'd need some good hypnotising to get me through a home birth over the phone!!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 03/08/2018 21:39

@shallen think your partner might too 😂

shallen · 03/08/2018 21:46

@AnotherOriginalUsername and probably some sort of counselling afterwards!! 😂

hammeringinmyhead · 03/08/2018 22:44

Haha, I've bought a hynobirthing book which comes with some MP3s. Hoping it's the best £9 I've ever spent!!

ND348 · 04/08/2018 08:34

I've gone for NCT. Not really got any mum friends so hoping that might help in that regard too! Starting pregnancy yoga in two weeks, she had a 7 week wait gist for my nearest class, hoping that means it will be good!
We have NHS run hyponobirthing course but it's £165! Think I'll learn what I can for the NCT course and then maybe buy a book/podcast

Emma198 · 04/08/2018 10:22

My nearest NCT is over an hour's drive away! We've got NHS classes and I'm going to start aquanatal next week (been saying that for 2 months but now I've got my lovely new swimming costume!) There's one just for mums and one where dads can join too. There's upsides and downsides to living in the arse end of nowhere!

@Emma198 mine are almost an hour away but that's fairly standard for anything here. There were street parties when the local Domino's opened!

Emma198 · 04/08/2018 10:49

@Another haha - we have a Dominoes but it doesn't deliver to where I am 😭😭 we do however have a takeaway whose special kebab is all the meat with peppers, onions and mushrooms on top of a 12in garlic bread instead of a pitta 😍

Ugh pizza would go down well right about now. Bit extreme for elevenses though...

EL332 · 05/08/2018 12:04

Hello, happy Sunday everyone 🙂

Have any of you started making plans for Christmas? (Yes I know it's only August)

I know we'll have people starting to ask us soon but we will have a baby that will be 2-6 weeks old depending on when he arrives...

It will also be my first Christmas since losing my mum...

I have no idea what I'll want to do or where I'll want to be 🤷🏻‍♀️

AnotherOriginalUsername · 05/08/2018 13:02

If planning involves pretending it isn't happening, then yep, totally read @EL332 👍

I'm due 6th Dec but actually baby is coming mid November so in theory I should be capable of leaving the house by Christmas. Whether I'll want to or not is another matter!

I'd be quite happy to bypass it and just spend it with my husband and baby and maybe pop out and see some relatives if/when we fancy. I'm not in contact with my own mum but the in-laws are a huge bunch and it's always a busy affair with loads of children and blended families (think family of 4 - parent, step parent, 2 kids, plus one kids other parent and their partner etc.) It's slightly chaotic for me at the best of times, never mind 5 weeks post partum!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 05/08/2018 13:04

The above family example is just one - husband has 2 siblings with that kind of set up - it's madness!

Emma198 · 05/08/2018 13:16

It's our second Christmas back at home near family, but last Christmas we were renting and didn't have much room. We've now got a lovely big kitchen/dining room and had decided before getting pregnant to have everyone here. That's still the plan, lucky for me my husband is a domestic god and is planning on doing everything. Means I don't have to go out the house if I don't want to, and we can both have a drink. I'm planning on it being my first one. Torn between amaretto sour or French martini..... I'm more excited about that than Christmas itself!

How is everyone doing for weight gain? I found my accurate scales yesterday going through a few boxes that we hadn't unpacked yet ready to decorate the baby room. I was 88 kg at my booking in appointment at 6.5weeks.... now 88.3kg! I know scales might be different but I'm a bit worried. I'd thought I'd put on more than that but looks like the other scales we have are dodgy... These ones I've found now always weighed me the same as weigh in at slimming world so I know they're generally accurate.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 05/08/2018 13:20

@Emma198 if we were reliant on my husband for Christmas dinner it'd be turkey dinosaurs all round!

I was weighed at my last obstetrician appointment, I've put on about 10lbs since booking in. She wasn't concerned at all by that thankfully!

EL332 · 05/08/2018 14:03

@AnotherOriginalUsername - part of me thinks just bypass, but then I think I'd feel guilty as its baby's first Christmas... which is ridiculous as the baby will be completely oblivious...

I just feel like I want to get clear in my head what I don't want to be talked into before I start being asked what our plans are...

I think we may just have to say to our families we will need to play it by ear this year ❤️
